12-4-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Marvel Studios has just officially announced that, as has been long suspected, Benedict Cumberbatch will headline director Scott Derickson’s Marvel Studios Phase Three film, Doctor Strange! Scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016, Doctor Strange is scripted by Jon Spaihts and is said to follow the story of neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. “Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” says Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.” Cumberbatch, who is in theaters now in the Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game, is likely best known as the star of the BBC’s contemporary Sir Arthur Conan Doyle adaptation, “Sherlock.” He stars on the show (which is soon to begin production on its fourth season) opposite Martin Freeman, with whom he also stars in this month’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Cumberbatch can also be seen coming up in director Scott Cooper’s Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass. There, he stars opposite Johnny Depp and Joel Edgerton.

This is amazing casting. Now this has been rumored for a very long time and it's finally good to get a confirmation. Benedict Cumberbatch fits the role of Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange really well and he'll do an amazing job in the film and I cannot wait to see it.

As if there was any doubt, Deadline reports that Ryan Reynolds is closing a deal to return as the Merc with the Mouth in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Deadpool feature film. The outlet also reports that a March start date is being planned for the production. Reynolds took to Twitter this afternoon to tease his return which you can see below. Though Reynolds previously appeared as the character in 2009′s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, given how that film was received (and the ending to this year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past), it’s possible that film will not be acknowledged at all in the 2016 release. Tim Miller is set to helm the film from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool is currently set for a release on February 12, 2016.

This is great news to hear. Ryan Reynolds played the part of Wade Wilson/Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine really well and he did what he could with the crappy script he was given. Ryan Reynolds to me is Deadpool both on-screen and off-screen with his snarly, up-tight, funny attitude and the way he carries himself. I'm excited that he's confirmed for the role and I cannot wait to see the film especially after the test footage that was leaked back in the summer.

This morning, Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that the 24th James Bond film will be titled Spectre! Filming will start on Monday, December 8 for the November 6, 2015 release. The cast (in the order they were announced) includes Rory Kinnear as Tanner, Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, Ralph Fiennes as M, Andrew Scott as Denbigh, David Bautista as Mr Hinx, Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra, Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann, Christoph Waltz as Oberhauser and, of course, Daniel Craig as 007. Spectre will be filming at Pinewood London, Mexico City, Rome, Tangier & Erfoud, Morocco, Sölden, Obertilliach and Lake Altausee and Austria. Also, James Bond’s new car in Spectre will be the Aston Martin DB10, created exclusively for the movie.

In the movie, a cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE. Commenting on the announcement, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said, “We’re excited to announce Daniel’s fourth installment in the series and thrilled that Sam has taken on the challenge of following on the success of ‘Skyfall’ with ‘Spectre.’” Written by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, the film’s Director of Photography is Hoyte van Hoytema and the Editor is Lee Smith. Production Designer Dennis Gassner returns along with Costume Designer Jany Temime and Composer Thomas Newman. Action Specialist Alexander Witt is the 2nd Unit Director. The Stunt Coordinator is Gary Powell, SFX Supervisor is Chris Corbould, and Visual Effects Supervisor is Steve Begg.

SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) is a fictional global terrorist organization featured in Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels, as well as the films and video games based on those novels. The organization was led by the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld. You can view the SPECTRE  bullet hole logo in the poster for the upcoming movie below!

This is an amazing title and cast. First off I was way off in my guess for the title which was Devil May Care. But anyway I'm really glad to see that the studio is hearkening back to the old Bond films with SPECTRE and Christoph Waltz is the perfect choice to play the main villain, I mean the guy was practically born to play a Bond villain. I also like that Dave Bautista is more than likely playing the henchman of the film and that fits him well. I'm huge fan of the Bond franchise and I cannot wait to see this film and I'm glad I don't have to call it Bond 24 anymore.

Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for Terminator Genisys which you can watch below! Terminator Genisys is poised to play with the continuity of the entire “Terminator” franchise by recreating scenes from the first two films in the series and also revealing Sarah Connor was raised by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator, whom she calls “Pops.” The film will also feature a man-machine hybrid as its primary antagonist which the filmmakers describe as a “visual gamechanger.” Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung Hun Lee and Matt Smith, Terminator Genisys is directed by Thor: The Dark World‘s Alan Taylor from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. It will hit theaters on July 1, 2015 and is the first in a planned trilogy of films.

I honestly don't know how to feel about the trailer. Am I glad we're getting a new Terminator film... yes, am I glad to see Arnold back in a Terminator film... yes, but I'm still skeptical about the film. I'm still confused about where the story is going, but it looks like that they are going to tackle both the 1984 Terminator and 1991's Terminator 2: Judgement Day. I really looking forward to the film, I just don't know how to feel about it at the current moment.

A lot of people are flying away from The Crow remake. Just yesterday it was announced that director F. Javier Gutiérrez was leaving after nearly three years on the project, and in the wake of that departure, he may be taking star Luke Evans with him, as told to Den of Geek when asked if the project was still a go for the actor. “It’s not, no,” Evans said. “No, at the minute ‘The Crow’ is not, not for me, I think it’s a little… I mean I’m sure it’s going to go ahead at some point, but I have other projects that are greenlit and ready to go and projects that I’m very interested in and you know, I can’t wait much longer! [laughs]” Evans, who can be seen on December 17 in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, will reteam with director Ben Wheatley (High-Rise) for the action film Free Fire, with his last international hit Dracula Untold coming to Blu-ray in February. If the domestic numbers weren’t too soft for Universal, it’s possible Evans may also reprise the role of Dracula as part of the studio’s monster universe revival. Music video helmer Corin Hardy (The Hallow) is now attached to direct The Crow, which features a script by Cliff Dorfman. Series creator James O’Barr will also work as a creative consultant on the film. No release date is currently set though production is set to begin in the spring of 2015. “The Crow” was originally published as a four issue series in 1989 and was adapted into a film in 1994 by Alex Proyas with Brandon Lee in the title role. Countless other sequels to both the comic and film have been produced in the years following.

This is really looking bad for the film. Now granted Evans hasn't officially dropped out of the film, but with these comments it's looking very likely that he will. I mean this production is in trouble simply because first the director drops out (who had been working in the film for 3 years) and now the main actor is dropping out. But they quickly got a new director which is a good thing, but now the process begins again for finding a new person to play The Crow (my pick would've been Jared Leto, but he'll be busy with Suicide Squad or he could find a way to do both (highly unlikely), but my next choice would be Tom Hiddleston). Hopefully this production can keep pushing forward because I love the original Crow film and if the reboot happens hopefully it can live up to the original.

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, which of these stories peaked your interest or was there another story that interested you? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
