My Top 10 Favorite Films of 2014

2014 has been a great year for film and there were a lot of films in contention for my top 10 list, but these were the cream of the crop. With that being said I'm going to bring you my top 10 favorite films of 2014. So without further ado...

10. Boyhood
Boyhood film.jpg

Wow what can I say about this film that hasn't been said already. This was a such a risky and bold move by director Richard Linkliter who filmed portions of the film every summer over the past 12 years. The film has some amazing performances and it's amazing to see a kid go from being a 6 year old who wants to know what's for lunch to and 18 year old kid who is trying to figure out who he is and what his place in this world is. It's truly a cinematic achievement.

9. The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Grand Budapest Hotel Poster.jpg

This is a spectacular film. Wes Anderson does a great job of mixing great humor into a very solid story and without the help of an amazing all-star cast this film wouldn't have been possible. This was a very early contender for Best Picture and without any doubt it 's a film that will get a lot of attention at the Oscars in next couple of weeks.

8. Noah
Noah2014Poster.jpg

Now I know this film caused a lot of controversy, but it's just a film and we all have to realize that. Darren Aronofsky is an amazing director and his vision for this film was spectacular. It did a really great job of depicting the story of Noah and it was also visually stunning and the performances are stellar and I was pleasantly surprised with the film.

7. Interstellar
A ringed spacecraft, revolves around a wormhole, here depicted as a reflective sphere.

This was an absolutely brilliant film and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Christopher Nolan is an amazing director and this was film is his version of 2001: A Space Odyssey and it literally had me holding my breath at every turn in anticipation of what was going to happen next. I was so mesmerized by the epic spectacle that was presented to us. Now granted the film was hurt a little by 2013's Gravity in the sense of what can be done with space, but still the film presented a lot of interesting information concerning the relativity theory and I love films that can make me think and this film does just that.

6. The Lego Movie
A construction worker Lego figure running away from a bright light, with other Lego characters running alongside him.

This was an overall entertaining film. I was really skeptical at first simply because I was wondering how in the world a film would be made about Lego's and boy was I surprised. The is one of the best animated films I have seen since Toy Story 3. Phil Lord and Chris Miller did an amazing job directing the film and brought a lot of humor to it as well.

5. Birdman
Birdman poster.jpg

This is such a brilliant film, First off I just want to welcome Michael Keaton back to mainstream films and he'll finish off his welcome by getting the Oscar for Best Actor. In the film he pretty much plays himself and portraying his life story of how he turned down a third Batman film and is now trying to resurrect his career. The camerawork in the film is also revolutionary by basically filming the entire film using a one track method where we are always in constant view of all of the characters. This is such an amazing film and whenever you get the chance watch it immediately

4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Captain America The Winter Soldier.jpg

I'm a huge comic book fan and we are completely piled with such amazing movies and this is one of those. Marvel Studios continues to put out film after film and hit after hit. This film in all honesty doesn't even feel like a comic book film and it plays out more like a 70's spy-thriller. This film right here changed the MCU for the better and I cannot wait to see what Marvel does from here on out.

3. X-Men: Days of Future Past
X-Men Days of Future Past poster.jpg

This for the longest time was my favorite film of the year and I thought it had a chance at a few Oscars. Well I may have gotten ahead of myself, but it's still an amazing film. It was a great time travel film and it's story got rid of everything that happened in the god awful films known as X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It welcomed Bryan Singer back to the franchise and I cannot wait to see what he does with X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016.

2. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
A chimp brandishes an automatic rifle while astride a rearing horse.

Listen as a lot of you know I was really looking forward to this film and I was not disappointed. All I need to say about the film is apes on horses with machine guns and you automatically know that the film is going to be awesome. The film has a lot of great performances but the standout one comes from Mr. Andy Serkis who has revolutionized they way we do mo-cap performances and he just becomes Caesar in every way possible. Also I have to give a round of applause to Tony Kebbell who played Koba and just played so well off of Serkis and he made this character his own and I'm excited for whatever this guy is in from here on out.

1. Gone Girl
A man in a blue shirt standing by a body of water, wispy clouds in the blue sky above. A woman's eyes are superimposed on the sky. Near the bottom of the image there are horizontal distortion error lines.

Here we are to my favorite film of 2014. When I first heard about this film I as somewhat interested and then I heard David Fincher was the director and it immediately became one of my most anticipated films of the year and then you add Ben Affleck (who's going to be Batman) and this is really the first film we get to see him act in before Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and let me just say that he looks jacked up ready to go for that film, anyway that's off topic, This film has a everything you can ask for in a Fincher film form the green tint in the camera to the score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, strong female characters and great suspense that continuously builds to the ultimate climax of the film. After the film was over I was just left speechless and I immediately knew that this was my favorite film of the year.

So ladies and gentlemen 2014 is coming to an end and these are my favorite films of the year. This has been an amazing year for the blog and I cannot thank you all enough for you support and I am looking forward to what 2015 has in store. With that being said what are some of your favorite films of 2014 and what did you think of my list? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.

My Top 10 Worst Films of 2014

While there have been a lot of great films in 2014, there have been a lot of really terrible films. Now one missing film form the list is Transformers: Age of Extinction simply because there were a lot of films that were way worse than this one, but I still hated the film. With that being said I'm going to bring you my top 10 least favorite films of 2014. So without further ado...

10. Walk of Shame
Walk of Shame poster.jpg

When you first look at this film you think Elizabeth Banks (who is hilarious) and James Marsden (who is very talented) plus writer/director Steven Brill (who wrote lot of films I really enjoy like The Mighty Ducks franchise and Little Nicky plus he also directed Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, Heavyweights and Without a Paddle) and you think to yourself how can this film be horrible. Well everything that could go wrong did. The jokes in the film are not funny whatsoever, the story is all over the place and the acting is just horrible. I honestly don't know how I made it through the film.

9. Left Behind
Left Behind - Teaser Poster.jpg

When I first heard about a remake of the Kirk Cameron film (which I really enjoyed), I was a little skeptical, but I thought I would be reassured that it would be at least decent when Nicholas Cage was announced as the lead. Wow was I wrong and thoroughly offended. Now I get that people are going to have different interpretations of the Apocalypse, but this one completely trashes the ideas and beliefs of Christians and other religions alike. The acting is horrible and the visual effects look second-rate. The original film may not be the greatest film in the world, but at least it stayed true to the core story.

8. Addicted
Addicted 2014 film.jpg

This film had a really talented cast of young African-Americans that have bright futures ahead of them. But this film was a bad start for a lot of them. I mean the film borrows its plot from a lot of different films and it just never really comes together and the acting is just atrocious and I kind of feel sorry for everyone involved.

7. Ouija
Ouija 2014 poster.jpg

When I first heard about the film, I finally came to the realization that Hollywood has run out of ideas. Now granted there are a lot of original films, but most don't check them out. Anyway back to this pile of trash. The film just puts a lot of different storyline together and it all gets jumbled up and then they try to introduce a couple plots after the original plot is over with and it's just a terrible and not a very scary film,

6. Annie (2014)
Annie2014Poster.jpg

As you all know I am ok with films getting remade beacuse it's always nice to see a story refreshed. after seeing this film I no longer want to see another remake. This film does a complete injustice to the musical and the 1982 (film) and the singing is just god-awful. I mean you can easily the auto-tone that was used over the voices which just make the film unauthentic. Originally Willow Smith was going to play the role of Annie (only because mommy and daddy produced the film with Jay-Z) and she knew how bad the film was going to be so she got out of dodge as quickly as possible.

5. The Other Woman
The Other Woman (2014 film) poster.jpg

When you think of Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann in a film together you would think that the film would at least be somewhat funny and in fact it is highly offensive and mean. Listen I understand the story and I get that if a guy cheats on you with other women, then the woman in the relationship has the right to be mad, but not the right to ruin someone's life. Anyway that's just a personal issue I had with the film. But in all honesty Kate Upton can't act and she was just brought on to be the young attractive female and to jiggle her tits a little as well (not saying I didn't like that) and the two main stars who you expect to be funny look like women facing mid-life crises and feel the need for attention.

4. The Legend of Hercules
Hercules (2014 film) poster.jpg

When you are given a such a rich mythology like Hercules you should never put out a horrible pile of trash like this one. I mean the film ignores everything about the character of Hercules and the filmmakers tried to make mythological version of Gladiator. Kellan Lutz has the ability to be a major star, but he needs to make better film choices. The effects are just horrible and the acting is just miserable and the film is just a 1 1/2 hour borefest. I was wondering if a film from the beginning of the year was going to make the top 10 and this film was the one.

3. Into the Storm
Into the Storm 2014 film.jpg

When I first saw the trailer for the film I immediately thought of the film Twister (which is an amazing film) and in the back of my mind I was wanting this one to be the modern day version of that film and in reality we get the complete opposite. I mean the visual effects of the tornadoes look unrealistic and the tornadoes on Sharknado are better than this film. The film also has a really talented cast, but they are wooden and dull that when someone dies in the film I laughed which shouldn't happen. It tries to be a disaster film (and it is but in a different sense) and it turns out to be a pretty decent comedy/

2. The Pyramid
The Pyramid (film).jpg

We've all seen this type of film before, a group of people go to a spooky and haunted place and ignore everything negative that has been said about the place and it's all caught on a handheld camera that makes the film be "found footage". Now I will say that As Above So Below did hurt this film because they are the exact same film just in a different location. But still this film is just awful and it relies too much on the cheap scares and it's predictable from the word go.

1. The Best of Me
The Best of Me poster.jpg

Well we have finally made it to my biggest piece of garbage of the year. As a few of you know I have read all of the books from Nicholas Sparks (I've had a lot of free time in my life) and reading these stories you do imagine what it would be like to see them put on the big screen, but when you come to the realization that they are all the same exact story you immediately retract everything you ever thought about the books. Also a little side note Paul walker was supposed to be in the film before tragically passing away last year and being replaced by James Marsden and to be truthful I wish he would have lived so that this film could've been way better than it ended up being.

So ladies and gentlemen there you have it my top 10 least favorite films of 2014. What some of your least favorite films of 2014 and what do you think of my list? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.

12-29-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

While the Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy The Interview made less than $3 million in its first four days of theatrical release in 331 independent film houses, it’s now being reported that it has grossed $15 million from online sales and rentals in North America between Wednesday and Saturday. Who knows how much money the movie would have made if Sony Pictures had gone with its original plan for a wide release on Christmas Day, but what ended up being a groundbreaking gamechanger of a decision may pay off as the movie was downloaded legally 2 million times mainly on Google Play and YouTube.  iTunes just started offering the movie this morning although it has yet to place on the Top 30 for the ITunes Store. It hasn’t been determined what the plans are for the movie from here on, including the chances of it getting a normal theatrical release internationally, where the paid download was not made available, but it still has a ways to go before it makes back its $45 million budget. Reviews have generally been mixed right down the middle on Rotten Tomatoes with many regional critics taking advantage of the availability to watch the movie via download when critics screenings were cancelled after Sony balked on the original release plans in response to major theater chains refusing to show the movie.

This is a really great number for the film to hit. I know that Sony is very disappointed (like the rest of us) that the film wasn't released in a lot of theaters where they would've easily made a lot more money. On the other hand it's a sad note that the film was illegally downloaded 2 million times and if this was stopped then the film would've have made a lot of money. Look I understand why people do it, but I'm against it one hundred percent. Anyway I'm really glad that this film made as much as it did and hopefully it makes more.

Back in August, Groot himself Vin Diesel made a brief tease on his Facebook page referencing that Marvel thought he was “Inhuman,” leading many to believe that the actor might be making his way into another Marvel franchise down the road. You can check out the photo below. Since then, Marvel finally gave Inhumans a release date of November 2, 2018, and now Vin is back with another tease, albeit one that’s a little more on the nose. Vin posted the image below (via /Film) without comment, though the logo on his shirt is for the film and the “Are You Inhuman?” text behind him was previously used in an ad campaign for Marvel Comics’ “Inhumanity.” It’s entirely possible for Diesel to appear in Inhumans given only his voice was used for Guardians of the Galaxy, and as we learned on the set of that film last year, Diesel was openly discussing his involvement in the movie despite not having officially signed on. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and introduced in the pages of “Fantastic Four” #45 back in 1965, The Inhumans were regulars in that series for decades before being given a high-profile mini-series in the late ’90s and they’ve been very active in the Marvel Universe ever since. Given their powers by the Terrigen Mists, the powerful Inhumans have a wide array of powers ranging from the life like and constrictive hair of Medusa to the destruction causing voice of their king Black Bolt.

I really like this picture. Vin diesel has turned his career around a lot of people are now on his bandwagon. He did a really great job with the role of Groot (granted it was mo-cap and voice work) and it is very possible for him to be another character in the MCU. For the longest time I thought he would be Vision, but that role has since went to Paul Bettany. Honestly I think a role in The Inhumans film will be great for him and the film itself.

Fortune magazine has debuted their latest profile piece, focusing on Disney CEO Bob Iger, and along with it comes a new shot of the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Iger and the fabled ship also landed on the cover of the magazine. You can check out the photo below. Starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou, the J.J. Abrams-directed film will debut in theaters on December 18, 2015.

I really like everything about the photo except for who's in it. Now granted Bob Iger is the head man over at Disney so he can do what he wants and plus the article is about him, but I wish it could have been someone else. But overall the Falcon looks amazing and the photo just gives off a great Star wars vibe. If you don't know by now, I am looking forward to this film and I just mad that I have to wait until December of next year.

We’ve got a great look at the costume design for the super villain Yellowjacket as he’ll be featured in director Peyton Reed’s upcoming Marvel Studios “Phase Two” capper Ant-Man. You can check out the banner below. Marvel’s Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd (This is 40, They Came Together), Evangeline Lilly (“LOST,” The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies), Corey Stoll (This is Where I Leave You, Non-Stop) and Michael Douglas (The Game, And So It Goes) and brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time.  Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

In the film, the man under the Yellowjacket suit is said to be Stoll’s Darren Cross. In the comics, Yellowjacket was initially an alternate superhero identity for Hank Pym, the costume having made its first appearance in “The Avengers” #59. Because of the severe mental stress he was under, Yellowjacket actually manifested itself as the darker side of Pym, leading to the character’s infamous turn to spousal abuse. Later on, a criminal named Rita DeMara stole the suit and became at first a supervillain and, later on, a sort of antihero, eventually traveling to the 30th century and teaming up with a very different Guardians of the Galaxy team. Also starring Judy Greer (“Archer,” Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Bobby Cannavale (Chef, Blue Jasmine), Michael Pena (End of Watch, Fury), Martin Donovan (Inherent Vice, Insomnia), Wood Harris (Dredd, Remember the Titans), John Slattery (“Mad Men,” Iron Man 2), Gregg Turkington (“Gravity Falls,” The Comedy), Abby Ryder Fortson (“Togetherness,” “The Whispers”), David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight, Prisoners) and T.I. (Takers, “House of Lies”), Ant-Man features a script by Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, Andrew Barrer, Gabriel Ferrari and Adam McKay. Look for it to hit theaters July 17, 2015.

This is a pretty great banner. We've already seen concept art for Ant-Man as well as a fan poster, but this is our first real look at Wasp. I've been wondering how they were going to do the costume and let's just say  am very pleased with it.The film has went through, but I cannot wait for it to come out next summer.

We’ve got a new look at George Miller’s much-anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road today, courtesy of Empire magazine. The outlet has released images of two new covers, both of which feature Tom Hardy as “Mad” Max Rockatansky, the character played by Mel Gibson in Miller’s original The Road Warrior, Mad Max and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. You can check out both designs below. Co-written and directed by Miller, Mad Max: Fury Road offers post-apocalyptic action set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life. Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order. There’s Max (Hardy), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos and Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland. Also starring Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Hugh Keays-Byrne (Mad Max, Sleeping Beauty), Nathan Jones (Conan the Barbarian, Troy), Zoe Kravitz (Divergent, X-Men: First Class), Riley Keough (The Runaways, Magic Mike) and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Mad Max: Fury Road opens in 2D and 3D theaters on May 15, 2015

These are really great covers/photos. These covers/photos really give us our best look at Tom Hardy as Max and let me just say he looks amazing. I'm a huge fan of this franchise and to know that this film is a direct sequel to Beyond Thunderdome gets me even more excited to see this film.

12-23-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Looks like the national outcry to release Seth Rogen’s The Interview in wake of the hack attack against Sony has resulted in Christmas Day showings of the film in select theaters, including both The Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas and The Plaza in Atlanta. Drafthouse founder Tim League took to Twitter to announce that it is one of the few theaters to show The Interview, which is especially triumphant after Paramount cancelled showings of Team America: World Police the theater was originally going to show in lieu of the film. The Plaza announced its screenings and showtimes on Facebook. "Breaking news: Sony has authorized screenings of THE INTERVIEW on ChristmasDay. We are making shows available within the hour. #Victory — Tim League (@timalamo)". It’s safe to say Sony has been emboldened by the support, since The Hollywood Reporter indicates that a day-and-date VOD release may also happen. We will keep you updated as the story unfolds, including hopefully, a full list of theaters where it will play. In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show ‘Skylark Tonight.’ When they discover that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the most unlikely candidates, to ‘take out’ Kim Jong-un.

Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment, made an official statement on the matter, confirming that select theaters will screen the film Christmas day and that plans are underway to expand both theatrically and potentially via VOD (via Deadline):  “We have never given up on releasing ‘The Interview’ and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day. At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience. I want to thank our talent on ‘The Interview’ and our employees, who have worked tirelessly through the many challenges we have all faced over the last month. While we hope this is only the first step of the film’s release, we are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech.”

This is great news to hear. I know there has been a lot of controversy over this film, but now that it's getting released maybe a lot of it will simmer down. I think that this is the right approach for Sony to go with because it will give people the opportunity who want to see it on the big screen the chance to do so and the others will wait for VOD. All I know is that I'm this is happening and I cannot wait to see the film.

Following word yesterday that four-time The Fast and the Furious franchise helmer Justin Lin is set to direct the upcoming Star Trek 3 (or 13 depending on your point of view), Paramount Pictures has officially announced a release date of July 8, 2016. 2016, as Trekkies are well aware, marks the 50th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s enduring sci-fi franchise. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and John Cho are all expected to reprise their roles as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Plot details have not yet been revealed, although Orci stated earlier this year that his plan was to set the action in deep space, unlike the relatively Earth-centric J.J. Abrams films. There is no word currently on whether the film will move forward with the same screenplay scripted by Orci, Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne or seek a new draft. Although Star Trek 3 is the first film to claim the July 8, 2016 release date, the film will follow both the Steven Spielberg directed Roald Dahl adaptation The BFG (starring Mark Rylance and Ruby Barnhill) and David Yates’ take on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan (starring Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounsou, Christoph Waltz, Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd and Margot Robbie), which both hit the big screen July 1, 2016.

This is a really solid release date. It's a little bit later than the previous two films, but right now it's the only film on the date it is going to make a lot of money. Like I said yesterday my only worry is with Justin Lin directing the film, but hopefully he can continue the trend of great star Trek Movies and help honor the 50 year tradition of Star Trek.

Warner Bros. Pictures has officially released the trailer for Entourage which you can check out below. Written and directed by series creator Doug Ellin, the big-screen version of the hit show stars Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven in their original roles, as well as Billy Bob Thornton and Haley Joel Osment as Larsen and Travis McCredle. The film also reunites series regulars Perrey Reeves as Ari Gold’s wife, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Sloan, and Rhys Coiro as Billy Walsh. Entourage is produced by Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Ellin, with Wayne Carmona serving as executive producer. The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Steve Fierberg, production designer Chase Harlan, and costume designer Olivia Miles-Payne, all of whom worked on the long-running HBO series. Movie star Vincent Chase (Grenier), together with his boys, Eric (Connolly), Turtle (Ferrara) and Johnny (Dillon), are back… and back in business with super agent-turned-studio head Ari Gold (Piven). Some of their ambitions have changed, but the bond between them remains strong as they navigate the capricious and often cutthroat world of Hollywood. Entourage will open in theaters nationwide on June 5, 2015.

This was a great trailer. Now let start off and say that I haven't seen any episodes of the tv show so I know absolutely nothing about the characters, but I have heard great things about the show which make me want to watch it. From the small snippets I have seen form the show it looks like the film is headed in that same direction and I cannot wait to see it.

Following a first version last month, Walt Disney Pictures has released a new trailer for McFarland, USA and you can check it out below. Inspired by the 1987 true story, McFarland, USA follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Soon something beyond their physical gifts becomes apparent—the power of family relationships, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic. With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream.         This was a nice trailer. It had real heart and it had a good blend of comedy as well. This film however looks like it will be another Million Dollar Arm (which I thought was ok), but hopefully this film can do better a be a great sports film.

Twentieth Century Fox has just brought online the trailer for director George Tillman Jr.’s (Faster, Men of Honor) upcoming adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ recent novel, The Longest Ride and you can check it out below. Starring Britt Robertson (The First Time, Tomorrowland), Scott Eastwood (Gran Torino, Fury), Jack Huston (American Hustle, Outlander), Oona Chaplin (Quantum of Solace, What If) and Alan Alda (“M*A*S*H”, The Aviator), The Longest Ride centers on the star-crossed love affair between Luke, a former champion bull rider looking to make a comeback, and Sophia, a college student who is about to embark upon her dream job in New York City’s art world. As conflicting paths and ideals test their relationship, Sophia and Luke make an unexpected connection with Ira, whose memories of his own decades-long romance with his beloved wife deeply inspire the young couple. Spanning generations and two intertwining love stories, The Longest Ride aims to explore the challenges and infinite rewards of enduring love. Featuring an adapted screenplay by Craig Bolotin, The Longest Ride is produced by Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Theresa Park, Robert Teitel and Sparks himself. Look for it to hit theaters April 10, 2015.

I hate the trailer. I bet you all can guess why and if you can't well then let me tell you. It's because every Nicholas Sparks film is the exact same (so are the books but they are more interesting). The only good thing about the film is that it comes out in April so I can get it out the way quickly. All I know the last Nicholas Sparks film The Best of Me is currently my least favorite film of the year and hopefully this film can do better than its predecessor.

My Review of Into the Woods

So I recently watched Into the Woods and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Into The Woods (film).jpg

"Into the Woods" is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (played by Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (played by Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (played by Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (played by MacKenzie Mauzy)-all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (played by James Corden and Emily Blunt respectively, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (played by Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.

I was pleasantly surprised by the film. In all honesty I wasn't really expecting too much form the film, but it does have its redeeming qualities. One thing I really enjoyed was the musical number which were catchy and I was singing several of them after the film. I also really like how these classic fairy-tales were intertwined with each other and they flowed smoothly together. The performances in the film are also really great especially form Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep. My one big complaint from the film is the performance of Johnny Depp. He's only in the film for a short while, but still his scenes are cringe-worthy and every time I saw him I was immediately uninterested with the film. I will also say that there are a lot of parts that just drag on way too long and they were really boring, plus some of the musical numbers weren't that great and they highly annoyed me. Overall the film intertwines four classic fairy-tales togehter with great performances and songs, but ultimately has more bad performances and songs that take the movie down a notch. I give Into the Woods a 6.5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Into the Woods, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
