My Review of Independence Day

So with tomorrow being Independence Day I thought it would be fitting to review with the holiday's namesake Independence Day.  So without further ado...

The story begins with the approach of a series of massive spaceships, which many on Earth greet with open arms, looking forward to the first contact with alien life. Unfortunately, these extraterrestrials have not come in peace, and they unleash powerful weapons that destroy most of the world's major cities. Thrown into chaos, the survivors struggle to band together and put up a last-ditch resistance in order to save the human race. As this is a Hollywood film, this effort is led by a group of scrappy Americans, including a computer genius who had foreseen the alien's evil intent (played by Jeff Goldblum), a hot-shot jet pilot (played by Will Smith), and the President of the United States (played by Bill Pullman).

I really enjoy this film. It has a lot of great action and a lot of memorable quotes. It also has a lot of great humor in a film that is based a round a humongous catastrophic event. he film has a great story and probably one of the better big budget scripts of the 1990's. I thought the performances in the film were just fantastic and the headed attack of Goldblum, Smith and Pullman is just unbeatable. The film was hyped as a visual effects masterpiece but in reality the effects look super cheesy and don't stand up in today's time (it's been almost 20 years since the films release). It also takes a lot of elements form other Sci-Fi movies such as Alien, War of the Worlds and other big invasion films. It's lack of originality and cruddy visual effects are what bring it down. Overall it's a fun movie to watch especially around this time of year. I give Independence Day a 7 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what do you think of Independence Day, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard. Also I want to wish everyone a very Happy 4th of July!.
