7-17-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Although details are few, Latino-Review is reporting that Christina Chong has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. Chong has previously appeared on the big screen in films like Madonna's W.E. and Johnny English Reborn. Her small screen roles include a guest appearance on "Doctor Who" and, most recently, "24: Live Another Day."

Although Chong's casting has yet to be confirmed, she will theoretically join Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke and Pip Anderson for the December 18, 2015 release, currently in production.

This is really great to hear. I know when the first group of casting was announced people were in an uproar about their not being enough female actresses in the film. Well the last three people adding to the film have been females. I'm not to familiar with Chong's work but hopefully in whatever role she is in she can do a great job.

Following yesterday morning's new images from Joss Whedon's much-anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron, EW has revealed quite a few details about the plot of the May 1, 2015 release, particularly related to James Spader's robotic antagonist. "A lot of times when Ultron starts talking, it’s beautiful," explains Chris Evans. "It's really intelligent stuff. He's out to do the things he wants to do because he's disgusted with X, Y, and Z. You could probably sit down with Ultron and have a really intelligent conversation. He could blow your mind with his views."

An unusual foe, Ultron actually wants to bring about world peace. He simply wants to eliminate those most responsible for disrupting it: the human race. "I know you're 'good' people," the magazine reveals as part of Ultron's dialogue to the Avengers, "I know you mean well… but you just didn't think it through… There is only one path to peace… your extermination."

The magazine confirms that Ultron's character begins as one of Tony Stark's "Iron Legion," a team of Iron Man-type robots that Stark is using to continue his crime-fighting in his absence. The character also serves as a metaphorical surrogate son to Tony and has elements of his personality."It's not the good version that could've come from [Stark's] intellect and personality," says Chris Hemsworth. "It's the bad son."

Currently filming in London, the sequel stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Thomas Kretschmann, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and James Spader. Written and directed once again by Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron will open on May 1, 2015.

This really tells us a lot about the film. It confirms what a lot of people have been speculating and that Ultron was created by Tony Stark and it gives us fans something to about in the sense of how Ultron will be portrayed. It seems to me he'll be like other robots created by humans who realize that humans are the problem and then attacks them. I'm excited as can be for this film and that's mainly because of Ultron.

Back in February, it was revealed that Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon was stepping behind the camera for the upcoming adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game series Uncharted. Speaking with Zap2It (via IGN), Gordon says that they're planning to start production on the film sometime early next year. "I think very early next year. That's the plan. That's like tomorrow, essentially, because the prep is so complicated for the movie," he said. Gordon went on to say that the writing team "just got the script to a really good place" and that the film will be "very international."

The lead role of Nathan Drake has yet to be cast for the film, with the likes of Mark Whalberg previously attached, and Gordon says they're still on the hunt for a lead. "I want it to be a great actor," Gordon says. "That's number one, and then if it's someone who has an actual jaw, that's even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There's no way we'd do the inverse of that where it's somebody famous who can't [act]."

The Naughty Dog game follows a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then is ratcheted up several notches when creatures -- actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis -- begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure's true secrets.

This is great news to hear. I'm a huge fan of the Uncharted game series (all three games are i m top 15 favorite video games of all-time with the 2nd one being number 2 in my list). I have honestly been waiting for this movie ever since I beat the series simply because the game's storyline feels like a movie. I honestly can't wait for this film. With them starting in early 2015 (probably February) we have the chance to see the film by at least Christmas of next year.

Following the reveal yesterday detailing the plans of the titular Ultron, Entertainment Weekly is back with more details from the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron, this time on the brother-sister duo of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. "They're on Team Ultron, which makes things really hard for the Avengers because all of sudden they’re dealing with powers that they’re not used to," director Joss Whedon told the outlet. "With the [first] Avengers, everybody pretty much had the power of being able to punch somebody, and now we have a woman who can get inside your head and move objects, and a boy that can move faster than anything, and a robot [Ultron] who can self-replicate and is out of his mind. So all of sudden, it's a darker, weirder, tougher world that they’re living in." "There's a lot of clashing. He's quick tempered. He gets agitated. He's impatient. But he's super protective," Aaron Taylor-Johnson said of his character. "They're very yin-and-yang in that twin sense. In his power, he's physical and she's psychological. My character is very much on the frontline, but he can be quite emotional. You see this beautiful tenderness between them."

Another addition to the film will see The Vision, played in person by Paul Bettany who previously only voiced J.A.R.V.I.S. in the Marvel films."It's not coincidence," Whedon said. "And I'm not going to tell you any more about The Vision." The site goes on to report that they were shown test footage of Bettany in character which they said looked "a little more on the purple side of the spectrum than orange" and had "a slightly more technological edge than the original."

Currently filming in London, the sequel also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Thomas Kretschmann, and James Spader. Written and directed once again by Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron will open on May 1, 2015.

This is really neat to hear. It'll be cool to see both Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch be enemies first and then heroes later. I also like how Marvel is upping the game for The Avengers (since the last film's fight felt way too easy).  Overall I'm excited for this film and I cannot wait to see it.

Viewers beware, you're in for a scare. Next summer, the big screen adaptation of Goosebumps will debut featuring Jack Black as the author of the series, R.L. Stine. Entertainment Weekly (via Bloody Disgusting) has debuted the first images of the film. "I play R.L. Stine, who’s not in any of the books, but he’s an essential character in this movie," Black tells the outlet. "Which is all about when all of his characters come to life. It was kind of a great way to bring out all of the scary beasts and monsters from all of his books in one movie."

He went on to talk about the age-appropriate scares of the book translating to the big screen. "Kids like scary movies, but you can’t take them to what are the big scary movies now where Satan comes out and bites your genitals off. Those movies can actually leave you mentally scared; that’s not for kids. But kids still like to get a little thrill and a little danger, so you need projects like this."

In Goosebumps, upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach's comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling "Goosebumps" series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange…he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it's suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

Directed by Rob Letterman, Goosebumps is set to hit theaters on August 7, 2015.

This is really interesting to hear. I enjoyed the Goosebumps books and it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. I really like Jack Black and this will be an interesting role for him. I hope this film is amazing and I'll be first in line to see the film.
