7-14-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Following this weekend's first TV spot, Walt Disney Animation Studios has now announced the full voice cast for the Marvel comics adaptation Big Hero 6, coming to theaters on November 7.

Hiro Hamada (Voiced by Ryan Potter): Robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada has the mind of a genius-and the heart of a 14-year-old: his state-of-the-art battle-bots dominate the underground bot fights held in the dark corners of San Fransokyo.

Baymax (Voiced by Scott Adsit): Baymax cares. That's what he was designed to do. The plus-sized inflatable robot's job title is technically Healthcare Companion: With a simple scan, Baymax can detect vital stats, and, given a patient's level of pain, can treat nearly any ailment. Conceived and built by Tadashi Hamada, Baymax just might revolutionize the healthcare industry.

Fred (Voiced by T.J. Miller): Fanboy Fred comes off like a laid-back dude with no direction. But this sign-twirling, monster-loving, comic-book aficionado is sure to go places-when he's good and ready.

Go Go Tomago (Voiced by Jamie Chung): Aptly named Go Go Tomago knows what it takes to be fast. She's tough, athletic and loyal to the bone, but not much of a conversationalist. Popping bubble gum and delivering well-placed sarcasm are totally her speed.

Wasabi (Voiced by Damon Wayans Jr.): Wasabi is committed to precision. He's super smart and just a touch neurotic, but the big and burly beatnik can't help but join the cause when Hiro needs him most.

Honey Lemon (Voiced by Genesis Rodriguez): It’s elemental when it comes to chemistry whiz Honey Lemon. Don’t let her glasses and funky fashion fool you: Honey may be as sweet as her namesake, but she has a fire in her belly and a can-do attitude that make her pretty much unstoppable.

Tadashi Hamada (Voice by Daniel Henney): Tadashi is a good guy. He just is. He actually developed, built and programmed a state-of-the-art nursebot—a Healthcare Companion named Baymax that will likely help millions worldwide.

Aunt Cass (Voiced by Maya Rudolph): Aunt Cass is the overworked but always-supportive guardian of brothers Hiro and Tadashi.

Professor Robert Callaghan (Voiced by James Cromwell): Professor Robert Callaghan heads up the robotics program at the prestigious San Fransokyo Institute of Technology and is Tadashi's professor and mentor.

Alistair Krei (Voiced by Alan Tudyk): San Fransokyo Institute of Technology’s most illustrious alum and owner of the biggest technology company in the world, Krei Tech.

This is actually a pretty solid cast. Now in films that have voice roles, you don't need big mainstream talent to voice roles like this simply because nobody can see you. But I will say that the film has a couple of recognizable names but none that are really huge. I'm really anxious to see this film simply becuase it's the first Marvel comic to actually get a feature length animated movie.

Next summer, Jurassic World will not only bring us our first "Jurassic Park" film in over a decade but also the first film in the series to feature a fully-functioning version of the park that John Hammond dreamed of all those years ago. One thing that comes along with theme parks is brochures and maps for the guests, and the official Jurassic World brochure has managed to find its way online via the Twitter account @jurassicp2k15.

Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on June 12, 2015, the anticipated movie stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D'Onofrio, BD Wong, Omar Sy, Judy Greer, Katie McGrath, Lauren Lapkus and Andy Buckley. Jurassic World is a sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of the original Jurassic Park.

This is a really cool photo. It really gives the fans of the franchise the one thing that we havewanted to see for 20 years. This brochure makes me want to actually go to the park. I honestly cannot wait for this film to come out.

Lionsgate has plans to bring to the big screen Stronger, the true story of Jeff Bauman, a survivor of 2013's Boston Marathon bombing who, despite losing both his legs that day, aided the manhunt that helped catch the perpetrators. Variety has the news, reporting that Bauman's book of the same name (co-written with Bret Whitter) will serve as the primary source material for newcomer John Pollono's screenplay. That book, published earlier this year, is officially described as follows:

Jeff Bauman woke up on Tuesday, April 16th 2013 and he had no legs.

Just thirty hours prior, Jeff was surrounded by revelry at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. The first bomb went off at his feet as he awaited his girlfriend's finish. When Jeff awoke days later from hours of surgery, rather than take stock of his now completely altered life, Jeff ripped out his breathing tube and tried to speak. He couldn't. Jeff asked for a pad and paper and he wrote down seven words, "Saw the guy. Looked right at me," setting off one of the biggest manhunts in the country's history and beginning his own brave road to recovery.

In his memoir, Jeff will inspire millions by writing about his experiences that early spring day and his ongoing mission to walk again. Jeff will show the terrorists that they accomplished nothing with their act of cowardice and prove to the entire world what Boston Strong really means.

This sounds like it will be an awesome movie. The Boston Marathon Tragedy left scars on the city of Boston and on America. The story through this mans eyes will be very interesting to see.

Summit Entertainment has officially dated Safe House director Daniel Espinosa's next, Child 44. The film, which stars Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke and Vincent Cassel, will hit theaters on April 17, 2015.

Based on the best-selling novel, Child 44 offers a high stakes thriller set in Stalinist Russia. There, a senior member of the secret police (Hardy) is framed by a colleague for treason and exiled to a remote outpost. Here he unearths a series of mysterious murders and vows to catch the elusive killer, despite powerful members of the government who wish to silence him.

The April 17 date has Child 44 opening opposite Disneynature's IMAX documentary Monkey Kingdom, the Kevin James comedy sequel Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and the Tarsem Singh sci-fi thriller Selfless, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Victor Garber.

This is actually a really smart move. The film will be counter programming to the films that are being released that weekend and in my opinion will win the weekend box office. The film sounds really interesting and I cannot wait to see it.

Paramount Pictures is, according to Deadline, close to securing distribution rights for Martin Scorsese's latest, Silence, which is set to star Andrew Garfield, Ken Watanabe and Liam Neeson. Based on the Shusaku Endo novel (adapted for the screen by Jay Cocks), Silence is set in the 17th century and follows two Jesuit priests as they face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity. Although nothing has been officially locked as of yet, Paramount is said to be targeting a November 2015 release for Silence with the hopes that it will become a serious awards contender.

This project sounds really neat. The studio wants it to be released to try to get awards buzz and let's be honest it will. I mean It's Martin Scorsese we're talking about. Plus the story sounds really good and the cast is an extremely  talented one and I can't wait to see the film.
