7-7-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Following a series of viral images over the long weekend, 20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for David Fincher's Gone Girl. Check it out in the video below, courtesy of iTunes Movie Trailers.

Based on the bestselling crime thriller by Gillian Flynn (who also adapted the screenplay), Gone Girl stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit and Carrie Coon.

On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

Gone Girl hits theaters on October 3.

Wow this trailer is awesome. It gives us a little bit more insight of the story. Like I said in yesterday's news I haven't read the book and I don't know the ending so that helps with my anticipation of the film. I honestly cannot wait for for this film.

The first image of leading man Don Cheadle as the legendary Miles Davis from the upcoming biopic Miles Ahead (formerly Kill the Trumpet Player) has debuted at EW.

Also starring Ewan McGregor, Michael Stuhlbarg and Emayatzy Corinealdi, Miles Ahead also marks the directorial debut of Cheadle as he tells the story of a few dangerous days in the life of Davis, the virtuoso, fighter and genius, as he bursts out of his silent period and conspires with a Rolling Stone writer (McGregor) to steal back his music.

Wagner is financing and will produce the project along with Robert Ogden Barnum, Cheadle and Lenore Zerman for their Crescendo Productions banner, Darryl Porter, and Vince Wilburn Jr. Executive producers are Pamela Hirsch, Cheryl Davis, Erin Davis, Cassian Elwes and Baigelman. Herbie Hancock, a legend in his own right and close collaborator of Davis, will participate in the project as well.

Wow this image looks really cool. This role and film is really out of Don Cheadle's wheelhouse and this could be his best role yet. I'm not to familiar with Davis and his history so I'm really curious to see where this film goes.

Marvel Studios (via Empire) have debuted a number of new stills from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, which you can check out below.

An action-packed, epic space adventure, the August 1 release expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

The big screen adaptation stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro.

These are some pretty cool images. I'm a huge fan of photos from films simply becuase it helps build the excitement for the film. Eventhough I'm not to familiar with the history of Guardians of the Galaxy, I'm really looking forward to this film.

Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have set Annabelle, the feature spinoff of James Wan's The Conjuring, for release on October 3. Starring Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton, Annabelle is directed by The Conjuring cinematographer John Leonetti from a script by Gary Gauberman. Peter Safran will produce with Wan executive producing. The October 3 date puts Annabelle up against David Fincher's Gone , the Nicolas Cage-led Left Behind and, in a limited release, The Good Lie, starring Reese Witherspoon.

This is a pretty interesting move by the studio. I mean the film is going up against a tough group of films and it may not make much money. But with it being apart of The Conjuring universe and how well The Conjuring was received, this film could actually do better then I'm expecting and hopefully it does.

Emily Mortimer is, according to a story at The Hollywood Reporter, in final talks to star opposite James Badge Dale in Legendary Pictures' upcoming supernatural thriller Spectral.  The script, originally written by George Nolfi from a treatment by Ian Fried, was rewritten by John Gatins and has Nic Mathieu attached to direct. It follows a special ops force that has trained in hunting the supernatural. They come up against ghosts that have taken over Manhattan. Mortimer, who will play a CIA mission leader, currently stars on HBO's "The Newsroom".

This is really in interesting casting. I never would have thought of Mortimer in a supernatural thriller so it'll be interesting to see how she handles it. This story also sounds interesting eventhough it does sound a lot like The Thing  but I'll have to see a trailer or get a better plot description before I can begin to judge the film.
