7-9-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

20th Century Fox has just revealed, via iTunes Movie Trailers, the trailer for director Ridley Scott's Exodus: Gods and Kings, starring Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, John Turturro, Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley. Check it out in the video below.

The December 12 release tells the story of one man’s daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

Holy cow this trailer is epic. The film looks visually stunning and it also looks like like it'll be a magnificent interpretation of the story of Moses. The only concern with the film is with director Ridley Scott simply because his past two films haven't really been that great and this one could possibly follow that same trend.

Alec Baldwin has two potential major big screen roles on his plate as Deadline reports that he's in talks to star in both Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible V. Mission: Impossible V, which features a script by Will Staples and Drew Pearce, would cast Baldwin as the head of the CIA. Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg are all set to reprise their respective roles.

This is actually really great casting if true. Now look I know Baldwin has had a lot of off camera personal incidents, but he is still one of the best actors in the business. I think that this role would fit him perfectly so I hope it comes to fruition.

We learned last month that Guillermo del Toro is set to bring Pacific Rim 2 to theaters in 2017, but the Pan's Labyrinth helmer today tells Collider that he's going to be making a small-scale film first. Not unlike how Joss Whedon followed Marvel's The Avengers with his Much Ado About Nothing, del Toro is planning on shooting it in black and white.

“There’s one great creature in it,” del Toro teases of the mystery film's plot. “It’s a very small cast. I would love to have John Hurt, and there’s an actress that I have in mind that is not well-known but I’ve seen her in a short film. That’s all she’s really done, one feature and one short, but she has an incredibly interesting taste and I’m gonna try her out for the main role.”

Del Toro says that he hopes to shoot the project in February or March and will then finish it in late 2015, just before Pacific Rim 2 goes into production.

I think that this is a great move for Del Toro. I think Del Toro is a pretty underrated director and his small budget films (like Pan's Labyrinth for example) are just awesome and I think that this will be a nice relaxing movie to help him prepare for Pacific Rim 2.

On the heels of his video address last month, President Coriolanus Snow is back with a new message for citizens of Panem. Also released is a new portrait of Snow, which you can check out in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page. "Never have we been more unified as a nation," reads an official statement from District 1. "The Capitol and the districts are bound together in solidarity, striving to forge a stronger future. To commemorate this resolve, the Capitol mandates your viewing of President Snow's Second Panem Address: 'Unity.'"

The worldwide phenomenon of "The Hunger Games" continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 opens in theaters on November 21.

Wow this was pretty cool. I'm really liking the marketing for the film so far with these viral videos and this one and the one released a couple of weeks ago have gotten me really excited for the film. I've enjoyed both of the films of the franchise so far and this one looks to be great as well.

Maleficent and Super 8 star Elle Fanning has taken a leading role in a big screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's short story, How to Talk to Girls at Parties. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that Hedwig and the Angry Inch's John Cameron Mitchell will direct.

The original story was first published in 2006 in Gaiman's Fragile Things anthology. Set in the 1970s, it follows two London boys who discover that the opposite sex is even stranger than they had originally thought. The film version, scripted by Mitchell and Philippa Goslett, expands the story, follow Fanning's extraterrestrial lead as she explores London suburbs with a schoolboy and a young punk.

This is really interesting to hear. Elle Fanning has become a really talented actress and even better than her sister (Dakota Fanning). This is a film that fits her personality and what she has done in the past so I'm excited to see how this film will turn out.
