7-16-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Entertainment Weekly has revealed the cover for their latest issue and with it comes our first official look at the villainous Ultron in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron! The publication also offers us our first look inside the sequel by revealing some new details on the film, including the reason for Ultron's creation.

EW reports that Tony Stark will build the android as a tool to help save the world and to provide the rest of The Avengers some time off, but things quickly go wrong with this plan. "Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, 'Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better'; he's not just going 'Muhaha, soon I'll rule!'" director Joss Whedon said. "He's on a mission. He wants to save us."

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.

This is awesome. We get our first real good look at Ultron himself and he looks really good. We also see new suits for both Iron Man and Captain America (and they look great as well). Overall this cover is awesome and it gets me a little more stoked for this film.

Fresh off the heels of their cover reveal, Entertainment Weekly has debuted the first official photos from the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, including some behind-the-scenes shots. Keep your eyes peeled while looking through them and you'll notice Don Cheadle makes an appearance! Check them all out below.

Currently filming in London, the sequel stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Thomas Kretschmann, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and James Spader. Written and directed once again by Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron will open on May 1, 2015.

These are some pretty cool set photos. I really love seeing all of the new costumes on the characters and seeing them in action and getting our first glimpse at Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Like I said before I'm excited to see this film and hopefully we can get a trailer soon.

Way back in October of last year, before their amicable split, screenwriter Roberto Orci hinted that he and partner Alex Kurtzman were trying to envision of a way to bring all of the classic Universal monsters together to form a cohesive cinematic universe, not unlike what Marvel and DC have done. Today, almost nine months later to the date, Deadline reports that Kurtzman and "The Fast and the Furious" producer Chris Morgan will be spearheading this effort going forward.

The first film in the series will be the upcoming reboot of The Mummy, which is already set for release on April 22, 2016. Another title previously attached to this idea was a reboot of the "Van Helsing" franchise, which had Tom Cruise attached to the title role.

Featuring the likes of Dracula, The Invisible Man, Frankenstein's monster, The Wolfman, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Universal released countless films featuring these and many more monsters from the 1920s to the 1950s. Though some of them did crossover in a number of films, namely Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein and House of Dracula, there was never a longstanding narrative on this scale featuring the monsters previously.

This is really interesting to hear. I really like these different studios coming up with their own universes. This will be an interesting universe to come up with but it will be cool to see Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein and The Wolfman on screen together for the first time. Hopefully everything works out.

Focus Features has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the drama Race. Jason Sudeikis is joining fellow cast member, Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons, in the spectacular true story of Olympic legend Jesse Owens, who will be portrayed by rising star Stephan James. Mister Smith Entertainment is handling worldwide sales on Race.

Race, to be directed by Emmy Award winner Stephen Hopkins, begins principal photography on July 24th in Montreal and on location at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, where the real-life hero won a record-breaking four Olympic gold medals in 1936. The new film has the support of the Owens family, the Jesse Owens Foundation, the Jesse Owens Trust and the Luminary Group. Race is based on the incredible true story of Jesse Owens, the legendary athletic superstar whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler's vision of Aryan supremacy. Race is an enthralling film about courage, determination, tolerance, and friendship, and an inspiring drama about one man’s fight to become an Olympic legend.

Sudeikis will star as Owens' obsessive coach and mentor Larry Snyder, who, after a prestigious track career himself, became a coach at Ohio State University. Snyder coached athletes who set 14 world records and won eight Olympic gold medals. Irons will portray Avery Brundage, the head of the American Olympic committee who fought to have the 1936 Olympics take place in Berlin.

This is really weird to hear. First off it's another film about Jesse Owens in production (the other one has Anthony Mackie as Jesse Owens), I honestly don't like that two different studios make different movies on the same exact thing simply because it does confuse a lot of people. The second thing is hearing Jason Sudeikis taking on this role, it'll be interesting to see him take a dramatic turn and hopefully he can build a career out of it.

Universal Pictures has summoned the theatrical trailer for their upcoming supernatural thriller, Ouija. Check it out in the player below! We've also got Ouija's official poster and the first three stills from the October 24 release, all of which can be seen in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page.

Directed by Stiles White and starring Olivia Cooke, Douglas Smith, Bianca Santos, Daren Kagasoff, Vivis Colombetti, Ana Coto and Erin Moriarty, Ouija follows a group of friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board.

I'm just going to go ahead and say that the film looks really stupid and the trailer doesn't help its cause. I mean the trailer pretty much gives away the entire film and it doesn't even look that scary. Hopefully I'm wrong and the film turns out great.
