Weekend Movie News 8-1-14 to 8-3-14

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

The legendary Bill Murray has joined the cast of Walt Disney Pictures' upcoming The Jungle Book! He'll provide the voice of Baloo in the Jon Favreau film. Murray joins Academy Award winners Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong'o and Christopher Walken as the voices of Bagheera, Raksha and King Louie, respectively, Golden Globe winner Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Scarlett Johansson as Kaa and newcomer Neel Sethi as Mowgli. The Jungle Book is a combination of live-action and animation, directed by Favreau from a script by Justin Marks. The film will be released in 3D and arrives in theaters on October 9, 2015.

I really like this casting. Bill Murray is one of best actors of all-time and I think that this role will be good for him. Just picturing the character of Baloo with Bill Murray's voice makes me really excited for the film and the character.

It looks like there's going to be a space of more than a year between the two upcoming adaptations of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. Walt Disney Pictures' Jon Favreau-directed version has already been announced for release on October 9, 2015 and now Warner Bros. has dated their Andy Serkis-directed take, now titled The Jungle Book: Origins, for October 21, 2016. The original book was published in 1894 and includes, among a number of other animal-themed stories, the classic tales of an Indian boy named Mowgli who is raised by wolves and lives among the other animals in the jungle. No casting for the Warner Bros. version has yet been announced. The Disney version, meanwhile, will star newcomer Neel Sethi and will also feature the voices of Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong'o, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken and Giancarlo Esposito.

I absolutely cannot wait for this film. I'm really excited simply becuase Andy Serkis is directing the film and if can direct like he can act, then I think the film will be amazing. But on the flipside I really don't like the idea of two Jungle Book films being released but since both films are coming I really hope that both are good.

As he's done all summer, director Colin Trevorrow has revealed a new photo from the upcoming Jurassic World via his Twitter account. Captioned with "See you next summer Star-Lord," the image features Chris Pratt, who stars in both the fourth "Jurassic Park" film as well as Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy, which opened today. Check it out below!

Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on June 12, 2015, the anticipated movie also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D'Onofrio, BD Wong, Omar Sy, Judy Greer, Katie McGrath, Lauren Lapkus and Andy Buckley. Jurassic World is a sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of the original Jurassic Park.

The picture doesn't show much, but I still love it. I only love it simply becuase it's exciting to see photos from movie sets simply beacasue you now know the film is officially happening. I'm a huge fan of the Jurassic Park franchise and this film looks to really rejuvenate the franchise.

20th Century Fox has released the new poster for director David Fincher's Gone Girl, opening in theaters on October 3 and starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Carrie Coon and David Clennon.

Based on the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn, the film unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

I really love this poster. Having read the book recently (which I highly recommend for everyone to read) and knowing the ending, the post has a special feeling to it and it kinda creeps me out. I'm really looking to forward to this film and I can't wait to see it.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that Sony has zeroed in on a director for the long-gestating Ghostbusters 3 and their first choice is none other than Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig. They report that no formal negotiations have taken place, but the studio has its eyes clearly set on the director to take on the sequel.

Feig directed 2006's Unaccompanied Minors, which brought in just $21 million at the global box office, but his two most recent films, 2011's Bridesmaids and 2013's The Heat, have grossed $288 million and $229 million worldwide, respectively. His next film, Spy, opens May 22, 2015.

Set to begin production next year in New York City, the storyline is rumored to focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters with cameos from the original stars written into the script. Bad Teacher and "The Office" writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg wrote the current draft.

This isn't really exciting news to me. I mean don't get me wrong I really love the films that Feig has done but this film shouldn't even be made. I mean it's been 25 years since Ghostbusters 2 and the time for a third film has come and gone. If this is true then I'll see the film but I'll be really skeptical about it.
