8-18-14/8-19-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Since I didn't get to bring you news from yesterday I figured that I would combine today's and yesterday's news (3 stories from each day). So here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

TrekMovie.com has received word from Star Trek 3 co-writer Roberto Orci that the first draft of the screenplay for the upcoming film has been completed. Orci confirmed that he and co-writers Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne finished the draft last week, and that he's hoping to begin production on the film in the spring of 2015. Orci has also been tapped to direct the third (or thirteenth, depending on your point of view) adventure of the Enterprise crew, following the departure of J.J. Abrams for a galaxy far, far away. There's no announced timeframe for the next "Star Trek" film as of yet, but the expectation is that the new film will land in theaters in 2016, just in time for the franchise's 50th anniversary.

This is great news to hear. If the script is completed this early then production can begin quickly. Hopefully the film can be done in time for the film to come out in 2016 to honor the 50th anniversary of the franchise.

Ever since the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off, and proved to be successful, fans have been clamoring to see some of their other favorite heroes make the transition to the big screen. Two of the most requested characters to add to the canon are Black Panther and Captain Marvel and it would seem the fan demand for these characters might be having Marvel reconsider a few things.

Speaking with IGN, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked about bringing those two characters to the big screen. He said: "They're both characters that we like, that development work has been done, it's continuing to be done on, and certainly it's the question I get asked more than anything else, more than Iron Man 4, more than Avengers 3. That's sort of the first time that's really happened to us, so I think that makes a difference. I think that's something we have to pay attention to... I've always said we have our plan, and it's served us very well, and there hasn't been anything that has managed to deviate or change from that based on an opinion, because opinions online change and they alter, and they are based on limited information they have to what's going on behind the scenes, but in this particular case I think it is a groundswell, and I think it means something substantial."

Marvel Studios currently has eleven more films set for release between now and 2019, eight of which don't have titles. It's not outside the realm of possibility that Black Panther and Captain Marvel could be one of those films, but we can't know for sure until the studio makes it official. In the meantime, keep asking and perhaps ye shall receive.

I love these comments. It is true that Black Panther has been in development since at least 2011 and they've just been trying to figure out when to come out with it and the same goes for Captain Marvel. These are two properties that I would really enjoy and I hope they both come to the big screen.

A new image of Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen has debuted via EW today as part of a report that looks into the much-anticipated, two-film franchise finale that begins with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 on November 21 and concludes next year with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2. In it, director Francis Lawrence informs fans that the films will offer "two different, very distinct stories."

"Instead of changing the plot and changing characters what we did was have the opportunity to show scenes that could have been happening at different times in the book," says Francis Lawrence of the split. "For us it's world expansion instead of changing things. I think it’s exciting for the fan to see certain things. So we've been able to open the world up in this and see some new places. We get to see some new districts this time and the scope gets quite large."

Also starring Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Julianne Moore, Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson, Evan Ross, Gwendoline Christie, Patina Miller, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson, Robert Knepper, Michelle Forbes and Eugenie Bondurant, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 is based on the novel by Suzanne Collins. It follows Katniss' (Lawrence) journey as she leads the districts of Panem in a rebellion against the tyrannical and corrupt Capitol. As the war that will determine the fate of Panem escalates, Katniss must decipher for herself who she can trust and what needs to be done, with everything she cares for in the balance.

First off this image is pretty cool. I mean it's nothing spectacular but it's still something to show from the film. secondly it's also nice to her the director's comments. Having never read the books it'll be interesting to see what he does with the story in his vision so to speak and hopefully it can keep improving the franchise. I can't wait to see both of these films when they come out.

These photos are pretty cool to see. i really like that we are finally getting to see what the "minor" actors will look like in the film. But the best one of them all is seeing Henry Cavill as Superman (not entirely) and it looks as if they've changed up the suit from the one that was in Man of Steel. I'm honestly excited for this film to come out.

Yesterday marked the beginning of filming for Marvel Studios' latest film, Ant-Man, and now they've already released the very first photo featuring star Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and you can check it out below. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Also starring Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Gregg Turkington and T.I., the Peyton Reed-directed film hits theaters on July 17, 2015.

This is a pretty cool photo. Now granted they've only been shooting for a day but it's still pretty cool to see a photo of Paul Rudd in the role of Scott Lang. The photo has somewhat of a dark tone to it but with Peyton Reed as the director the film will also have a little comedy. This photo has gotten me even more excited to see this film next year.

Warner Bros. Pictures is moving ahead with its Andy Serkis-directed The Jungle Book: Origins and has cast its first voice lead - Benedict Cumberbatch will voice the tiger Shere Khan.

The October 21, 2016 release is based on Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book." The film tells the story of Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves. He's kidnapped by monkeys and rescued by his animal friends, including Baloo the Bear, Bagheera the panther and Kaa the python.

The film will arrive more than a year after Disney's The Jungle Book (October 9, 2015), directed by Jon Favreau. In that version, Shere Khan is voiced by Idris Elba. Mowgli is played by newcomer Neel Sethi and Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong'o, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken and Giancarlo Esposito are providing voices as well.

This is excellent casting. First off Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the best actors in the business and he has a bright future ahead of him. Plus his voice is one of the most recognizable ones in the business and it will lend itself to this role. This casting has gotten me even more excited for the film.
