8-4-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Following its impressive teaser debut at Comic-Con International, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is back in front of cameras today and fan Samuel Otten (via CBM) today captured a first look at Ben Affleck on set as Bruce Wayne! Check out his images and video below. According to Otten, the scene takes place at a wrecked "Wayne Financial" building in Metropolis.

Coming to theaters on May 6, 2016, the Zack Snyder-directed action adventure also stars Henry Cahill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Scoot McNairy.

These photos and video are pretty cool. I know that they both don't show much but it's great to finally get a little glimpse at Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne. Everything I see from the film just builds my excitement for the film more and more and I want 2016 to be hear now.

Fresh off the heels of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige saying he hoped a female led film in his cinematic universe happened "sooner rather than later," Deadline brings word that Sony is planning a female-led superhero film set in the universe of their "Amazing Spider-Man" franchise.

With The Sinister Six spin-off already set for release in 2016, the trade reports that Sony has hired Lisa Joy Nolan ("Burn Notice") to pen the script for the film, which they're targeting for a 2017 release date. Which character it will focus on remains to be seen, but a number of super-powered women call the pages of "Spider-Man" home, ranging from Black Cat (played by Felicity Jones in The Amazing Spider-Man 2) to Silver Sable or even Spider-Woman.

The site also reports that plans for the proposed Venom spin-off are still moving forward and that the rumored title for the film is "Venom Carnage." A 2017 release date is also being eyed for the Alex Kurtzman-directed film. Previously set for release on June 10, 2016, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been pushed back to 2018 with no specific date set at the time.

This is really great to hear. I'm all in for comic book films, but their has been a lack of diversity in the genre when it comes to gender and race. I honestly hope that this is true and that it helps pave the way for films with female and people of other races in the lead role.

A first look at Tim Burton's Big Eyes is online via the USA Today. The December 25 release stars Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz, Danny Huston, Krysten Ritter, Jason Schwartzman and Terence Stamp.

Directed and produced by Burton, Big Eyes is based on the true story of Walter Keane (Waltz), who was one of the most successful painters 1950s and early 1960s. The artist earned staggering notoriety by revolutionizing the commercialization and accessibility of popular art with his enigmatic paintings of waifs with big eyes. The truth would eventually be discovered though: Keane's were actually not created by him at all, but by his wife, Margaret (Adams). The Keanes, it seemed, had been living a lie that had grown to gigantic proportions.

The film centers on Margaret's awakening as an artist, the phenomenal success of her paintings, and her tumultuous relationship with her husband, who was catapulted to international fame while taking credit for her work.

These are some pretty cool images. I am really looking forward to this film simply because it feels and sounds like a film that could rejuvenate Tim Burton's career. I also really like the casting of Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams in the two leads. Look this film has Oscars written all over it and I wouldn't be surprised if got a lot of attention come award season.

Although a number of actors very recently signed on for the project, The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that director Richard Linklater is departing the Warner. Bros. remake The Incredible Mr. Limpet. Linklater will instead focus on his "spiritual sequel" to Dazed and Confused, now titled That's What I'm Talking About.

"It's none of the same characters," Linklater told ComingSoon.net about the film some years back. "It's just my own spiritual sequel like, 'Oh, these are my college years, the way 'Dazed' was my high school, this is my college.' So that's all, but it's not about revisiting those exact same characters. But I do have this kinda fun college comedy about the first weekend of college."

The Incredible Mr. Limpet, meanwhile, is slated to star Zach Galifianakis, Josh Gad, Jon Hamm, Kevin Hart, Danny McBride, Sarah Silverman and Key & Peele. A remake of the 1964 Don Knotts film classic (in turn based on the novel by Theodore Pratt), The Incredible Mr. Limpet follows milquetoast Henry Limpet, who experiences his fondest wish and is transformed into a fish. The new version of the tale sets the action in present day and has Galifianakis' Limpet attempting to save the fish population of a small beach town.

Linklater was to direct from his own adapted screenplay and the plan had been to make use of a rotoscoped animation style similar to his previous Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly. Without Linklater at the helm, however, it is unknown what route The Incredible Mr. Limpet may now take, but check back for updates as they become available.

I'm actually really disappointed to hear this. I'm slowly becoming a huge fan of Richard Linklater after getting my hands on a few of his films I think that this film sounds great and it really fits into his style. But I will say that I am actually excited to see a Dazed and Confused 2.

Elijah Wood is the latest name to join the cast of director Breck Eisner's upcoming The Last Witch Hunter. The Lord of the Rings star joins Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie and Michael Caine in the Lionsgate supernatural actioner, which will begin production next month.

In The Last Witch Hunter, an immortal witch hunter (Diesel) partners with his natural enemy, a female witch (Leslie), to stop the covens of NYC from unleashing a plague on humanity.

Wood will next be seen on the big screen in Set Fire to the Stars, which premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival. On television, Wood can currently be seen in the fourth and final season of "Wilfred" on FXX; the series finale is August 13, 2014.

This is great casting. Elijah Wood had  a great start to his career but here recently he's fallen ff the map a little and it'll be great to see him back on the big screen. The film sounds really interesting  and I feel that Elijah Wood will fit in very well.
