So I recently watched Philomena and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...............
The film is based on the true story of the efforts of Philomena Lee (played by Dame Judi Dench, mother to a boy conceived out of wedlock (something her Irish-Catholic community didn't have the highest opinion of) and given away for adoption in the United States. In following church doctrine, she was forced to sign a contract that wouldn't allow for any sort of inquiry into the son's whereabouts. After starting a family in England years later and , for the most part she has moved with her life, until she meets BBC reporter Martin Sixsmith (played by Steve Coogan) and decides its time to search for her long lost son.
I really liked this film. It has a few bright spots especially in the acting of Judi Dench (who absolutely deserves an Oscar nomination) and Steve Coogan who gives a great balance of comedy and drama and is able to act on the same level of Dench. The film combines drama, comedy and suspense that it keeps you on the edge of of your seat and keeps you wondering what will happen. Overall I give the film a 9 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Philomena, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments and let your voice be heard.
