American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (played by Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (played by Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent named Richie DiMaso (played by Bradley Cooper). Dimaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that's as dangerous as it is enchanting. Carmine Polito (played by Jeremy Renner), the passionate , volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving's unpredictable wife Rosalyn (played by Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.
This film was very unpredictable. Going into the film I figured it would be another great drama film (which it was) but only for 25% of the film, the rest was mainly a comedy. But even with the film being more of a comedy, director David O'Russell paints a magnificent picture with his amazing storytelling ability. The ensemble cast of Academy Award winners and Nominees of Bale, Adams, Cooper, Renner and Lawrence are all amazing and give their best performances of their careers. The main problem that I have witht the film is that for the first half of the movie I felt really bored and uninterested but the second half of the film really picked up a lot a steam and made it one of the best movies of the year. Overall I give American Hustle a 9 out of 10.
