6-19-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Last week brought the rumor that Warner Bros.' upcoming DC slate will see the release of not only Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, but also Shazam!, Sandman, Wonder Woman, and a Flash/Green Lantern team up movie all between 2016 and 2018. We discuss this rumored line-up on our latest episode of Most Craved. You can now add one more title to that list as Latino-Review reports that WB is eyeing 2019 for a solo Batman film starring Ben Affleck, of which the working title is said to be "The Batman."

This release window makes sense for the project given that, as the site points out, Affleck will write, direct, and star in his next directorial effort Live By Night in the summer of 2015. That film will debut October 7, 2016 and frees up a lot of time for the studio to develop the script and get production going. There is also the possibility that Affleck could direct the project, but don't expect any reveals or confirmation for some time.

If this ends up being true then I am absolutely overjoyed. If you know me then you know that I am a huge Batman fan (I have a Batman license plate on my car for crying out loud) and hearing this gets me pumped. Now I know it tenatively scheduked for 2019 and I'm ok with that for two reasons. 1. we'll get to see him in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 and plus it gives casual fans 7 years since the last Batman film and to also distinguish between the Nolan trilogy and this new universe. Now to the other part, I will be extremely excited for the film (more than I already am) if Ben Affleck directs it. I see it happening because I don't think Warner Bros. signed him on to be in a movie with Superman and then a Justice league film.

20th Century Fox has released the final trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes which you can watch below! Hitting theaters on July 11, 2014, the Matt Reeves-directed sequel stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo and Judy Greer.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

This trailer is awesome. Now not only is the trailer awesome but the films looks amazing. It shows a little bit more of a softer side along with a little darkness. I'm so excited for this film and I can't wait to see it.

The trailer and poster for director David Dobkin's The Judge have both debuted today through star Robert Downey Jr.'s Twitter feed! Check out the video and the poster below a. "Here’s a first look at #TheJudge," Downey writes. "This is the kind of movie I grew up wanting to make. Only took 49 years. Enjoy."

Also starring Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Dax Shephard, Billy Bob Thornton, Melissa Leo, Ken Howard, Emma Tremblay, Balthazar Getty, David Krumholtz, Sarah Lancaster, Grace Zabriskie and Denis O'Hare, The Judge stars Downey as big city lawyer Hank Palmer, who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town’s judge (Duvall), is suspected of murder. He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before.

The Judge hits theaters October 10, 2014.

This is a pretty cool trailer. I hadn't really heard of the film until recently and I've been impressed with it so far. This film could receive a lot of attention come Oscar season, but the film has yet to be seen so we'll just have to wait for it to come out.

The folks over at JoBlo have come across a number of tidbits for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, Star Wars: Episode VII and Ant-Man. Though most of them deal with costume changes for some of the characters, it's what they've learned about Ant-Man that we thought was most interesting.

In their report, the site mentions that the main villain of the film will be Darren Cross, a foe of Ant-Man Scott Lang in the source material and head of Cross Technological Enterprises. The site reports that instead of his Hulk-like stature in the comics, Cross will go toe-to-toe with Ant-Man in an outfit similar to the hero. Darren Cross also has a cousin, William Cross, who becomes the villain Crossfire in comics. A CIA trained agent with expert martial arts and weapons skills, in addition to a cybernetic eye.

Unfortunately, JoBlo was unsure at the time of their publication who would be playing these two, but Jeff Sneider at the TheWrap now brings word that "House of Cards" star Corey Stoll will play Darren Cross with Patrick Wilson taking on the William Cross role, though he may or may not become Crossfire in the film. Check back for confirmation on these rumors in the near future.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Also starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly, Ant-Man is set to be directed by Peyton Reed and is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.

This is pretty cool to hear. Now I'm not to familiar with Ant-Man and his villains but i'm down for Patrick Wilson playing a bad guy. The film has had a lot of troubles in recent weeks after the departure of Edgar wright form the director's chair but I'm still hopeful for the film and I can't wait to see it.

Columbia Pictures has released, via MTV, a new UK trailer for the new comedy Sex Tape, starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel. Check it out in the video below.

In the film, when Jay (Segel) and Annie (Diaz) first got together, their romantic connection was intense – but ten years and two kids later, the flame of their love needs a spark. To kick things up a notch, they decide – why not? – to make a video of themselves trying out every position in The Joy of Sex in one marathon three-hour session. It seems like a great idea – until they discover that their most private video is no longer private. With their reputations on the line, they know they're just one click away from being laid bare to the world... but as their race to reclaim their video leads to a night they'll never forget, they'll find that their video will expose even more than they bargained for.

Directed by Jake Kasdan, the July 18 release also star Rob Corddry, Ellie Kemper and Rob Lowe.

This trailer is actually pretty funny. It didn't really show anything new and I like that for a trailer for a comedy movie. I will say that at first I wasn't to excited for the film but now after seeing these trailers I can't wait for the film.
