6-12-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

A rumored lineup of DC Comics feature films has hit today at the just-launched NikkiFinke.com, suggesting that, at July's Comic-Con International, Warner Bros. will officially announce their superhero slate through 2018! Following Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on May 6, 2016, will be, according to Finke, a Shazam! solo film in July 2016, the Joseph Gordon-Levitt Sandman film the following December, Zack Snyder's Justice League in May 2017, a Wonder Woman film in July 2017, a surprise Flash and Green Lantern team-up film Christmas of 2017 and a direct Man of Steel sequel in May 2018!

Finke goes on to claim that Justice Leaguers appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice include, in addition to Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg, the Flash and a non-Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern. She also suggests that Aquaman will debut in Justice League.

All of this should be taken with a grain of salt for the time being, but, if this schedule pans out, it would mean that Warner Bros. is going full force opposite Marvel Studios, upping their output to three superhero films a year. Of course, it's a safe bet that Marvel will have a few surprises announcements of its own in July.

Holy crap this is pretty awesome news. If this is true then I am one happy man. I love a great competition between two completely different brands because it simply means that both studios are going to put out some great films. Two things that really stand out to me number 1 a possible Green Lantern and Flash team-up film, these are two really great characters and their powers compliment each other very well. Now it's sad that Ryan Reynolds won't be Green Lantern again (reportedly) because eventhough the first Green Lantern film was awful, he was still great in it. The other thing that stands out is no Batman solo film. Look I know we've been a little overloaded on Batman in recent years but honestly he is the only proven character from DC to carry a franchise and it's just puzzling not to see a film for him in the slate (he may getting a film in 2019).But overall this is great news to hear.

Just one week after it was announced that Walt Disney Pictures is moving forward with their own Bill Condon-helmed live action Beauty and the Beast, comes word, via Deadline, that Warner Bros. Pictures' take on the tale has lost attached director Guillermo del Toro due to scheduling conflicts. Del Toro remains attached as producer and screenwriter (with Andrew Davies) with Emma Watson still set to star.

A traditional fairytale, the earliest published version of the story was written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and appeared in France in the 18th century.

A new director for Beauty and the Beast is expected to be announced shortly while del Toro's next, Crimson Peak, is set to hit theaters October 16, 2015.

This is some pretty disappointing news. Now don't get me wrong, I think Del Toro will write a great script, but I feel that the film could be better with him at the helm. Hopefully this choice doesn't come back to bite him.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has just debuted the first trailer for Birdman, the new black comedy from Alejandro González Iñárritu (Amores Perros, Babel) that stars Michael Keaton, Lindsay Duncan, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone and Naomi Watts. Check it out in the player below and find the film's new poster in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page!

Alternately titled The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance, Birdman tells the story of an actor (Keaton) – famous for portraying an iconic superhero – as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.

        Birdman hits theaters October 17.

This trailer looks pretty cool. If the film goes right not only will it boost Michael Keaton's career, but it the film very could get him an Oscar nomination. I honestly can't wiat to see this film and how Keaton does with it.

Marvel's The Avengers and Only Lovers Left Alive star Tom Hiddleston has, according to Deadline, taken the lead role in I Saw the Light, an upcoming biopic of legendary country singer Hank Williams. Marc Abraham (Flash of Genius) is set to both write and direct, adapting Colin Escott's "Hank Williams: The Biography".

Williams ranks high among the most influential country music singer-songwriters, and he lived a life as hard as any character in a country song. After growing up dirt poor in Alabama during the Depression, Williams skyrocketed to fame with 11 No. 1 hits, including classics "Cold, Cold Heart," "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry."

Williams also suffered from spina bifida, which led him to turn to alcohol and morphine for pain relief. Haunted by demons and bad habits, Williams died in 1953 at age 29.

This is pretty interesting casting. I'm a big fan of Hiddelston's work, but I just don't see him as Hank Sr.. Now I have been wrong before and I honestly hope that this time I am wrong and I hope that Tom Hiddelston's career skyrockets after this film.

TWC-Dimension has released the new trailer for Paddington, the big screen adaptation opening in theaters this December. The film stars Hugh Bonneville, Nicole Kidman, Sally Hawkins, Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters. Colin Firth voices the title character.

From the beloved novels by Michael Bond and producer David Heyman ("Harry Potter"), Paddington tells the story of the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear (voiced by Firth) who travels to the city in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined - until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck that says "Please look after this bear. Thank you," and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.

This is a pretty fun little trailer. It looks as if the film will take more of a slapstick feel instead of the charming and heart-warming feel that the tv show had. The film is already getting a lot of good reviews for people who have seen the film (eventhough it doesn't come out til December and some very early Oscar buzz). I hope the film is great because I'm really looking forward to it.
