My Review of The Railway Man

So I recently watched The Railway Man and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado....

The Railway Man -- movie poster.jpg

During World War II, Eric Lomax (played by Colin Firth) is a British officer who is captured by the Japanese in Singapore and sent to a POW camp, where he is forced to work on the Thai-Burma Railway. During his time in the camp, Lomax is tortured by the Kempetai primarily for building a radio. Years later, and still suffering the psychological trauma of his wartime experiences, Lomax, with the help of his wife Patti (played by Nicole Kidman), and best friend Finlay (played by Stellan Skarsgård), decides to find and confront one of his captors. Lomax returns to the scene of his torture and manages to track down his captor, Japanese officer Takashi Nagase (played by Hiroyuki Sanada), from the prison camp, "in an attempt let go of a lifetime of bitterness and hate".

This film is actually pretty good. The story has a really good meaning of forgiveness, it has a lot of heart but in the same time a lot of grittiness. The performances of Firth, Kidman and Skarsgård are just absolutely magnificent. The one problem with the film is that it went by way to quick and I felt that the film, was only like an hour long (its actual running time is 1 hour and 56 minutes), so in essence it has really bad pacing. So overall I'm going to give The Railway Man a 8 out of 10.
