Surprises/Snubs/Takeaways
1. This year is stacked with great nominees and a lot of categories are going to come down to at least 3 or 4 nominees unlike in years past.
2. Daniel Bruhl deserved to be nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Rush over Jonah Hill
3. The Best Actor category this year could have easily had a completely different lineup which could have included Tom Hanks (for Captain Phillips and Saving Mr. Banks), Chris Hemsworth (for Rush), Michael B. Jordan (for Fruitvale Station), Hugh Jackman (for Prisoners) and Matthew McConaughey (for Mud).
4. Just like Best Actor, the category for Best Director could of had a completely different lineup which could have included Paul Greengrass (for Captain Phillips), Ron Howard (for Rush), Woody Allen (for Blue Jasmine), Spike Jonze (for Her) and Richard Linklater (for before Midnight)
5. The Lone ranger was nominated for Best Visual Effects over the likes of Man of Steel, pacific Rim and Thor: The Dark World. The Academy must have been smoking something real good to nominate such a piece of crap movie in any category.
