My Top 10 Favorite Traditional Animation Movies

Animated movies are some of the best films in cinema today. They are mainly geared towards children but they also have humor that only adults will understand. So I'm going to bring you my favorite Top 10 Traditional  animated movies (animated films that are drawn by hand). Also on this list I will include live action films with traditional animation in the film as well. So without further ado....

10. Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs-
Snow White 1937 poster.jpg

This film is probably the greatest animated film of all-time and is one of the best films of all-time. A beautiful girl, Snow White (voiced by Adriana Caselotti), takes refuge in the forest in the house of seven dwarfs named Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy and Dopey (voiced by Roy Atwell, Pinto Colvig (who also voices Happy), Otis Harlan, Scotty Mattraw, Billy Gilbert and Eddie Collins respectively) to hide from her stepmother the wicked Queen (voiced by Lucille La Verne). The Queen is jealous because she wants to be known as "the fairest in the land" and Snow White's beauty surpasses her own.  This is one of the first films I remember watching and when the queen turns into the creepy old woman, I literally get scared every time she is on screen. Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs was nominated for the Acdemy Award for Best Musical Score.

9. The Simpsons Movie-
Film poster showing five people standing of the roof of a house on fire. From left to right: a girl stands purposefully looking into the distance, a woman looks shocked, a man, holding a pig under his arm, holds a giant donut in the air to complete the text "The Simpsons Movie" above him. A baby lies underneath his legs, a boy with a slingshot to his left.

I'm a huge fan of the show and the is film. Thanks to Lisa Simpson (voiced by Yeardly Smith), Lake Springfield is cleaned up from the pollution that once fouled it. But when Homer (voiced by Dan Castellaneta), who's adopted a pig and dumps a silo full of the pig's waste into the lake, the EPA places a large dome over Springfield, and the Simpsons Family manage to escape through a sinkhole. The family then flees to a better life in Alaska, but when the head of the EPA, Russ Cargill (voiced by Albert Brooks),  orders the town to be deconstructed, it's up to Homer to save Springfield. The Simpsons Movie has a rating of 90% on rottentomatoes.com.

8. The Brave Little Toaster-

This is another film that I watched a lot when I was younger. The film is set in a world where household appliances and other electronics have the ability to speak and move, pretending to be lifeless in the presence of humans. The story focuses on five appliances a toaster named Toaster (voiced by Deanna Oliver) a lamp named Lampy (voiced by Tim Stack), an electric blanket named Blanky (voiced by Timothy E. Day), a radio named The Blaster or a Walter Winchell radio (voiced by Jon Lovitz) and a vaccum cleaner named Kirby (voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft), who go on a quest to search for their original owner. I absolutely love this film. The film has two sequels that were released out of chronological order entitled The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars and The Brave Little Toaster To The Rescue with the latter taking place second in the story. The Brave Little Toaster has a rating of 75% on rottentomatoes.com.

7. Hercules-

This is one of my favorite Disney comedy-musicals of all-time. The son of the Greek Gods Zeus (voiced by Rip Torn)and Hera (voiced by Samantha Eggar), Hercules (voiced by Josh Keaton) is stolen as a boy by the minions of Hades (voiced by James Woods), lord of the underworld. Forced to live among humans, Hercules is turned half-god and half-mortal after drinking a forbidden potion brewed by Hades right hand men Pain (voiced by Bob Goldthwait) and Panic (voiced by Matt Frewer). Now Hercules has the remarkable strength of a god, but is trapped in the body of a human, and before he learns how to use his powers or can return to his home on Mount Olympus he must prove himself to be a true hero on Earth. I just absolutely love this film and anytime its on, I am glued to the TV. Hercules was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song and has a rating of 83% on rottentomatoes.com.

6. Robin Hood-
Robinhood 1973 poster.png

This film is mainly great because it adds a new twist to the tale of Robin Hood as all of the characters are animals. The film begins after Prince John (who is a lion voiced by Peter Ustinov) and Sir Hiss (who is a snake voiced by Terry Thomas) have tricked the true king into leaving the country on a phony crusade. With the help of The Sheriff of Nottingham (a wolf voiced by Pat Buttram), they tax the life out of Nottingham's peasants, leaving them all penniless as their only hope of survival lies of Robin Hood (a fox voiced by Brian Bedford). This film tickled me to death as a kid and I still love it today. Robin Hood was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song and has a rating of 55% on rottentomatoes.com.

5. Aladdin-
A hand holds an oil lamp and another rubs it, and glowing dust starts coming off the lamp's nozzle. The text "Walt Disney Pictures presents: Aladdin" is atop the image, with the tagline "Imagine if you had three wishes, three hopes, three dreams and they all could come true." scrawling underneath it.

This film is a masterpiece and it is one of the highest grossing films Disney Animation has ever had. After a sultan (voiced by Douglas Steele) gives his daughter, Jasmine (voiced by Linda Larkin), three days to find a husband, she escapes the palace and encounters the street-savvy urchin Aladdin (voiced by Scott Wienger), who climbs his way into her heart. While the sultan's Vizier, Jafar (voiced by Johnathan Freeman), waves a spell so that he may marry Jasmine and become sultan himself. Aladdin however discovers the Genie's lamp in a cave, rubs it and sets the mystical entity free, leading the Genie (voiced by Robin Williams) to pledge his undying loyalty to the dazzled youth. Aladdin begin his quest to defeat Jafar and win the hand of the princes, with the Genie's help. This film is just absolutely amazing. Aladdin also has two sequels entitled Return of Jafar and Aladdin and The King of Thieves , the film was also was nominated for 5 Acdemy Awards including Best Original Score, two nominations for Original Song, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing while winning 2 (Best Original Score and Original Song) and has a rating of 92% on rottentomatoes.com.

4. Dumbo
Dumbo-1941-poster.jpg

This has got to be one of my favorite movies as a child as well as one of the saddest films I have ever seen. A young circus elephant is born with comically large ears and given the cruel nickname Dumbo. One day at a show, he is taunted by a group of kids, inciting his mother into a rage that gets her locked up. After Dumbo's ears cause an accident that injures many of the other elephants, he is made to dress like a clown and perform dangerous stunts. Everything changes when Dumbo discovers that his enormous ears actually allow him to fly, and he astounds everyone at the circus with his new talent. Dumbo was nominated for 2 Academy Awards including  Best Score and Best Original Song while winning 1 (Best Original Song) and it has a rating of 97% on rottentomatoes.com.

3. The Aristocats

This film is one that I love to sing to everytime its on. The film revolves around a family of aristocratic cats, and how an alley cat acquaintance helps them after a butler has kidnapped them to gain his mistress' fortune which was intended to go to them. This is one of my favorite Disney films of all-time. The Aristocats has a rating of 66% on rottentomatoes.com.

2. The Lion King-
In an African savannah, several animals stare at a lion atop a tall rock. A lion's head can be seen in the clouds above. Atop the image is the text "Walt Disney Pictures presents The Lion King".

This is the very first film that I had ever seen. It tells the story of Simba (Younger version voiced by Johnathan Taylor Thomas, Older version voiced by Matthew Broderick)  a young lion who is to succeed his father Mufasa (voiced by James Earl Jones)as king. However, after Simba's uncle Scar (voiced Jeremy Irons) murder Mufasa, Simba is fooled into thinking he was responsible  and flees into exile in shame and despair. Upon maturation living with two wastrels, a meerkat naemd Timon (voiced by Nathan Lane) and a warthog named Pumba (voiced by Ernie Saballa), Simba is given some valuable perspective from his friend Nala (younger version voiced by Niketa Calame, Older version voiced by Moria Kelly) and his shaman, Rafiki (voiced by Robert Guillaume), before returning to challenge Scar to end his tyranny. This film is just a masterpiece and a classic film. The Lion King has a sequel entitled The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride and prequel film that ran parallel to the original film entitled The Lion King 1 1/2. It was also nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Original Score and Three nominations for Best Original Song, while winning 2 (Best Original Score and Original Song) and it has a rating of 90% on rottentomatoes.com.

1. The Iron Giant-
The Iron Giant poster.JPG

This film is so heartwarming and really funny. The Iron Giant tells the story of a lonely boy named Hogarth Hughes (played by Eli Marienthal) raised by his mother Annie Hughes (the widow of an Air Force Pilot) (played by Jennifer Aniston), who discovers an iron giant (played by Vin Diesel) who fell from space. With the help of a beatnik named Dean (played by Harry Connick Jr.), they have to stop the U.S. military and a federal agent from finding and destroying the Giant. The Iron Giant, takes place in October 1957 in the American stat of Maine during the height of the Cold War.  This film is by far my favorite animated film CGI or traditional and for the longest time I didn't know that Vin Diesel voiced The Iron Giant. The film has a rating of 97% on rottentomatoes.com.

So ladies and gentlemen what do you think of the list, do you agree or disagree and what are your favorite traditional animation films of all-time? Let me know in the comments and let your voice be heard.
