2-24-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Marvel Studios has released the official poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron which you can check out in the gallery viewer below! The poster does reveal some interesting new bits of information about the film. It confirms that Anthony Mackie and Hayley Atwell will reprise their roles in the film and that composer Danny Elfman contributed “additional music” to the film. In the May 1, 2015 release, when Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, James Spader, Cobie Smulders, Thomas Kretschmann, Paul Bettany and Stellan Skarsgard.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Poster

This is a really great poster. It gives a really great look at all of the characters (except for Vision) involved. This is possibly one of the best posters I have ever seen since I have been covering movies. I really loved the first film and I'm excited to see this film and how it plays out and how it set the phase 3 plans in motion.

Though the film doesn’t open in theaters for a few more months, Paramount Pictures have already set release dates for two sequels to Terminator Genisys and star Arnold Schwarzenegger tells The Arnold Fans that he’ll be back. The sequel is set for release on May 19, 2017 and Arnold revealed production will begin next year. A planned third film is set for release the following year on June 29, 2018. Terminator Genisys is poised to play with the continuity of the entire “Terminator” franchise by recreating scenes from the first two films in the series and also revealing Sarah Connor was raised by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator, whom she calls “Pops.” The film will also feature a man-machine hybrid as its primary antagonist which the filmmakers describe as a “visual game changer.” Also starring Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung Hun Lee and Matt Smith, Terminator Genisys is directed by Thor: The Dark World‘s Alan Taylor from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. It will hit theaters on July 1, 2015.

This is actually pretty great news to hear. Arnold Schwarzenegger has a had a run of really bad movies and this time around he is copying Stallone. I mean that in the sense that he is going back to the franchises that made him famous. Stallone did it with Rocky and Rambo, now Schwarzenegger is going back to Terminator and Conan (which will come out in the next couple of years). I know it's way too early to start looking forward to sequels since the film hasn't come out yet, but look it's Terminator with Arnold so it will make money.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain (The Help, Zero Dark Thirty) has, according to a story today at Deadline, joined the cast of Universal Pictures’ Untitled Snow White and the Huntsman spinoff. Although her specific role has not yet been revealed, she joins the returning Chris Hemsworth (Marvel’s The Avengers, Blackhat) and Charlize Theron (Young Adult, Mad Max: Fury Road) as well as the recently-announced Emily Blunt (Into the Woods, Edge of Tomorrow), who is set to play the story’s villain. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who served as a visual effects supervisor on the first film, will be making his feature film directing debut. Details on the new film’s plot are few, but it is said to feature a story that expands the fantastical world of director Rupert Sanders’ 2012 global hit, revealing how the fates of the Huntsman, Eric, and Ravenna intersected before they met Snow White. Kristen Stewart’s Snow White, however, is said to not be a part of the story. Chastain, who starred last year in Interstellar, Miss Julie and A Most Violent Year, can be seen coming up in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak and Ridley Scott’s The Martian. The Untitled Snow White and the Huntsman spinoff is targeting a release on April 22, 2016. It is currently the only major release scheduled for that weekend.

This is great casting. It's never wrong to recruit talent and Chastain is a two-time Academy Award nominated actress so getting her on board must mean that she really loved the script. I wasn't a huge fan of Snow White and The Huntsman, but I did like the performances of Theron and Hemsworth so maybe this spin-off will be better than the original film.

Although there’s no telling exactly who the actor is playing quite yet, Variety reports that “EastEnders” star Ben Hardy has joined the cast of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse in a role that, according to the outlet, represents a “significant” character in the comic book Marvel Universe. Hardy’s name has been heard before in connection with the 20th Century Fox sequel. He was listed earlier this year as a contender to play Cyclops, although that role ultimately went to Tye Sheridan. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will lead the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse, which will also see the return of Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Evan Peters as Quicksilver and newcomers Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Sheridan as young versions of Storm, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler and Cyclops. The film is being written by Simon Kinberg from a treatment by Mike Dougherty, Dan Harris and Kinberg. Said to be the conclusion of a trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past, cameras will start rolling on the next adventure in Montreal beginning in April. X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.

This is pretty interesting casting. This kid is an unknown actor and when I say unknown I literally mean unknown. This guy been in one British soap opera and that is it. He must of really impressed the studio enough to bring him on board. I'm really curious what this significant role will be. I've heard rumors he could play Legion (Professor Xavier's son) or possibly Angel which later becomes Archangel. Right this is all speculation, but I'm looking forward to see what he brings to the table.

Director Rob Schrab (“Community,” “The Mindy Project”) will mark his feature directorial debut overseeing construction on The LEGO Movie Sequel, the eagerly awaited follow-up to the worldwide sensation The LEGO Movie. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who wrote and directed The LEGO Movie, are writing the new feature based on a story by Lord, Miller, Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan. In addition, Lord and Miller will serve as producers, alongside returning producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee. “‘The LEGO Movie’ captivated critics and audiences on a global scale with its irresistible blend of humor, imagination and fun. Warner Bros. is excited to build our relationship with The LEGO Group with this new adventure,” says Silverman, “and we join them in welcoming the multi-talented Rob Schrab to the LEGO family as he takes the helm of ‘The LEGO Movie Sequel.'” “We are so excited to collaborate with Rob,” add Lord and Miller. “He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years. No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project. People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course!'”

In addition to his small-screen work, Schrab is well known as the creator of the comic book series “Scud: The Disposable Assassin.” He also wrote, directed and executive produced “The Sarah Silverman Program,” for which he gained a WGA Award nomination. He previously earned a 2007 Annie Award nomination for Best Writing in an Animated Feature Production, for the Oscar-nominated comedy Monster House. In addition, he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, and received an additional nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special for his work on the 81st Annual Academy Awards. The LEGO Movie Sequel is another piece of the Studio’s growing LEGO film franchise, also including the upcoming Ninjago, slated for a September 23, 2016, release, and an as-yet-untitled LEGO Batman feature, due out in May 2017.

This is a pretty interesting choice. The Lego Movie 2 will be a highly anticipated film and I don't know if this guy is the right choice. He has done a lot of comedic tv work, but nothing major. I think that the studio should've went with someone else, but if the studio really wanted him then I can't blame them eventhough I would like to see someone else in the chair.
