My Review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men First Class

In honor of X-Men: Days of Future Past being released this weekend, I thought it would be appropriate to review two of the non X-Men trilogy films. The other is The Wolverine which you can check out here The Wolverine Review. So without further ado...

X-Men: Origins Wolverine
A man with grizzly hair wearing a tank top shirt, with three metal claws in front of his face. Below his chin is the title "X-Men Origins Wolverine", the film credits and the release date, May 1.

The story gets under way as the boy who will become Wolverine makes a shocking discovery about his family bloodline, and gains a brother in the process. Flash forward to find the mutant siblings battling side by side through two world wars and Vietnam -- where they are sentenced to death for killing a commanding officer -- and Logan (played by Hugh Jackman) and his brother, Victor Creed (aka Sabretooth, played by Liev Schreiber), have joined a top-secret government task force. When their targets begin to include innocent civilians, conscientious Logan escapes to the Canadian Rockies, where he builds a home with pretty schoolteacher Kayla Silverfox (played by Lynn Collins). Informed by his old commanding officer William Stryker (played by Danny Huston) that the members of his old team are being targeted for death, Logan is heartbroken when Victor finds and kills Kayla. Vowing revenge, Logan agrees to take part in a dangerous experiment that will fuse his bones with a powerful metal alloy called adamantium, which makes him virtually indestructible and gives him the strength needed to defeat his powerful brother. Subsequently betrayed by Stryker, Logan (now Wolverine) sets out to find his blood-lusting brother and stop the cycle of violence once and for all. Along the way, the temperamental hero is joined by fellow mutants John Wraith (played by Will.i.Am) and Remy LeBeau (aka Gambit, played by Taylor Kitsch). But before Wolverine can seek vengeance against Striker and his brother, he'll have to do battle with Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) a formidable mutant instilled with many powers.

Boy does this movie suck. Honestly this is one of the worst films of all-time. It has so many issues that I don't even I can cover in this review. First off the story is absolutely boring as can be and honestly fells like a 3 hour movie, Secondly how in god's name do you screw up one of biggest fan favorite characters in Deadpool (just saying but you don't ever shut him up completely). Also there is absolutely no character development and honestly when people do die in the film I scream in my head thank god because I could care less what happens to them. The visuals are very pathetic and just look cheap. The two positives I have from the film (yes shockingly there are positives) is one is the performance of Hugh Jackman who does a miraculous job as Wolverine in a crappy film as well as Taylor Kitsch as Gambit and I also liked some of the action sequences. Overall the film is boring and cheap looking. I give X-Men: Origins Wolverine a 1 out of 10.

X-Men First Class
The X-Men and the Hellfire Club walk towards the viewer. From left to right, they are Beast, Professor X, Magneto, Emma Frost, Moira McTaggert, Havok, Mystique, Azazel Salvadore, Angel and Sebastian Shaw. The background and its reflection on the floor form an "X".

Set primarily in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and focuses on the relationship between Charles Xavier (aka Professor X played by James McAvoy ) and Erik Lensherr (aka Magneto played by Micheal Fassbender), and the origin of their groups—the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants, respectively.

Wow this film is awesome. This is a great refresh to the X-Men franchise after two horrible films in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Origins Wolverine. The acting is the film is amazing especially from McAvoy and Fassbender who completely own their roles and do a great job of filling the shoes of Stewart and McKellen. The story is a riveting narrative that takes us on an emotional origins story how how the leads learn trust each other and when things go south they still love each other as brothers. Matthew Vaughn did a great job at making this story his own. The film does a great job of bringing us back to the roots of the first two X-Men movies and how much fun they were. Now the one negative is that the ending felt rushed and it was very predictable. Overall the film is amazing and a great way to hit the refresh button on the fading franchise. I give X-Men: First Class a 9 out of 10.
