5-10-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

It was revealed a few weeks ago that writer/producer Roberto Orci was lobbying for the director's chair for the upcoming Star Trek 3. Now, Deadline reports that he has entered negotiations with Skydance Productions and Paramount to helm the film and is the clear frontrunner for the position.

Having previously written both "Star Trek" films and the tie-in video game, Orci is joined by screenwriters Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, who will help him pen the third adventure of the Enterprise crew.

There's no announced timeframe for the next Star Trek film as of yet, but the franchise will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016. If the plan is to have a film in theaters to tie into the occasion, expect official announcements on the film in the very near future.

This is really good news. I was really looking forward to Joel Cornish's take on the franchise but I'm also ok for Roberto Orci taking over the helm. He knows the cast and where JJ Abrams story is going and he is the prefect replacement. Also I think that the film will be out by 2016 and it'll be really great to celebrate Star Trek's 50th anniversary.

It has been known for some time that, despite her character's death in the first film, Sigourney Weaver is planning to return to the world of Pandora for James Cameron's upcoming Avatar sequels. Today, she tells Vulture that not only will she appear in all three sequels (to be shot back-to-back), but teases that her character will "transform" in some way.

"It will be challenging for me," she tells the outlet. "I can't talk about it, but my part is a little different in each one. I'll transform somewhat."

Avatar 2 is scheduled for a December, 2016 release, Avatar 3 for December of 2017, and Avatar 4 for 2018. The original film remains the top grossing movie of all time with $2.782 billion at the worldwide box office.

Look I was shocked when Weaver's character was killed off and I was sad to see her go. But now knowing what we know it's not a surprise that she's back. She'll probably have her body cells fused with the body of a Na'vi and her character will be one just like Sam Worthington's character  did at the end of the first one.

Paramount Pictures' Mission: Impossible 5 has scored a new screenwriter in video game scribe Will Staples ("Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3"). The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that Staples will rewrite the existing draft by Iron Man 3's Drew Pearce.

Following a worldwide gross of $694.7 million for the franchise's most recent entry, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions recently signed leading man Tom Cruise to reprise the role of Ethan Hunt and to produce.

Mission: Impossible 5 hits theaters December 25, 2015.

This is really interesting. I thought Drew Pearce would be a great fit but I'm just puzzled by who they got to replace him. See he's know for writing Call of Duty and in my opinion they don't have very good stories. It'll be interesting what he does with the script but for right now I'm a little skeptical about this.

It was announced earlier this week that Leslie Mann is set to be among the headlining trio of the upcoming DreamWorks comedy Las Madres. Today, Variety reports that one of the other two leading roles will be filled by Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer (The Help).

An original story by Lona Williams, Las Madres is being drafted by Pam Brady. The high-concept comedy revolves around a group of friends who decide to overcome their financial woes by tracking down a criminal with a big price on his head.

This is really good casting. Look no matter what type pf move it is, it's always good to recruit talent. Octavia Spencer is not really known to be the comedic one but It'll be great to see her step outside her comfort zone and take some chances. plus teaming her up with Leslie (despite her crap film The Other Woman) is one of the funniest female actresses in the business and it'll be interesting to see how the two play off of each other.

The trailer for Rob Reiner's And So It Goes is now online and you can check it out below.

Oren (Michael Douglas) is a self-centered real estate agent who couldn't care less about anyone else. But Oren's life is turned upside down when his estranged son suddenly drops off a granddaughter (Sterling Jerins) he never knew. Now, with the help of his determined and loveable neighbor, Leah (Diane Keaton), Oren stubbornly learns to care, and unexpectedly, to fall in love again.

Frankie Valli, Scott Shepherd and Frances Sternhagen also star in the July 22 release.

This film looks really hilarious. Both Keaton and Douglas have proven they can do comedy and that's why they are just a couple of the greatest actors of all-time. I really like the pairing of the two with Rob Reiner and I can't wait to see this movie.
