5-2-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Paramount Pictures has set their franchise comedy sequel Beverly Hills Cop for release on March 26, 2016. Warner Bros. has, meanwhile, dated the Dean Devlin's Geostorm for release on the same day. There are currently no other major releases planned for that date.

The new Beverly Hills Cop movie will reunite Eddie Murphy with his Tower Heist director, Brett Ratner. The franchise had initially planned to segue into life on the small screen with a pilot that starred Brandon T. Jackson as Foley's son. That concept failed to move beyond the pilot stage.

Geostorm, meanwhile, stars Gerard Butler as a scientist forced to team with his estranged brother to save the world from weather-controlling satellites while villains attempt an assassination of the President.

I'm really excited for Beverly Hills Cop 4. It'll good to see Eddie Murphy getting back to his roots and trying to resurrect his career. It's also interesting that it'll be a spring release as I feel that this would be better suited for a mid-June or mid-July release. Overall though I'm really excited and I can't wait to see it.

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions announced today that "Doctor Who" star Matt Smith will join the cast of the upcoming Terminator reboot. Smith will play a new character with a strong connection to John Connor, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.

Smith is best known for playing The Doctor on the popular "Doctor Who" television series during the 2011-2103 seasons. His other television credits include "Christopher and His Kind," "Moses Jones," and "The Street." He can be seen next on the big screen in Lost River, directed by Ryan Gosling, alongside Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes. Paramount will distribute the film worldwide on July 1, 2015.

This is some really interesting casting. The guy is only known for TV roles and It'll be somewhat of a transition to movie star and it always is as only a handful have done it. It''l be interesting to see what his role will be. But this casting makes me a little bit more excited for the film.

A big screen version of the popular 1960s sitcom "Green Acres" is on the way, Deadline reports. The rights have just been purchased by Hollywood Media Bridge, a production company run by Phillip Goldfine and Richard L. Bare. Bare directed nearly every episode of the original series, which is available to view in its entirety on Hulu with he following official description:

Successful lawyer Oliver Wendell Douglas (Eddie Albert) longs to leave behind the complications of modern society and life as a Manhattanite, and despite the protestations of his glamorous socialite wife Lisa (Eva Gabor), Oliver buys a farm from swindler Mr. Haney. The couple says goodbye to city life and takes up residence in Hooterville, USA. While there is some debate among the show's fans as to the actual geographic location of Hooterville, one thing is clear: It exists in a state of mind-bending logic and hallucinatory natural laws, and is inhabited by an eccentric population that includes favorite son Arnold Ziffel, a multi-lingual, TV-watching pig. The farm Oliver has purchased is a shambles, the farmhouse in a state of advanced disrepair. Along with hired hand Eb, Oliver tries to make a go at being a gentleman farmer. Meanwhile, Lisa settles in to her new surroundings despite herself, and attempts to bring gracious living and the finer things to the oddball residents of this off-the-map town.

Why in god's name is this happening. In all honesty this TV show was great and all but there's no point in a movie. It'll end up sucking more than Bewitched or Dark Shadows. There is absolutely no need for this film to happen. But like all films I'll give it a shot.

Although we've already seen quite a bit of the character thanks to director David Ayer's Instagram postings last year, People has today posted two clear views of Brad Pitt's "Wardaddy," one of the stars of the upcoming World War II action drama Fury which you can check out below.

Coming to theaters on November 14, 2014, the film also stars Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena, Jon Bernthal and Jason Isaacs. Fury is set at the very end of World War II, in April 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theater, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

These pictures look really great. I'm  excited for this film which has a lot of Oscar potential behind it. I really like the casting of the film as well. Overall this film looks like it will make for a fun time to be at the movies.

Screen Gems has set Stefan Ruzowitzky, the director of the Academy Award winning The Counterfeiters, to helm the Mike Le-scripted Patient Zero (formerly Patient Z).

Patient Zero takes place in a post-outbreak zombie apocalypse and follows the adventures of one man who has the unique ability to speak with the undead and who hopes to use his gift to discover a cure for the plague and his infected wife.

This is a really good choice. This guy is known for some smaller films that are actually really good (I personally recommend Anatomy). With his previous works I feel that he is a perfect fit for the film and I think he'll do a great job with it.
