My Review of The Star Wars Saga

In honor of today being May the 4th (May the 4th be with you for those that don't know the reference) I thought it would be fitting to review all of the Star Wars films (and yes it unfortunately includes the prequels). So without further ado...

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Illustration depicting various characters of the film, surrounded by a frame which reads at the top "Every saga has a beginning". In the background, there is a close-up of a face with yellow eyes and red and black tattoos. Below the eyes are a bearded man with long hair, a young woman with facepaint and an intricate hat, three spaceships, a short and cylindrical robot besides a humanoid one, a boy wearing gray clothes, a young man wearing a brown robe holding a laser sword, and an alien creature with long ears. At the bottom of the image is the title "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" and the credits.

The film follows the Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn (played by Liam Neeson) and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor), who escort and protect Queen Amidala (played by Natalie Portman) in traveling from the planet Naboo to the planet Coruscant in the hope of finding a peaceful end to a large-scale interplanetary trade dispute. It also features a young Anakin Skywalker (played by Jake Lloyd) before he became a Jedi, introduced as a young slave boy who seems to be unusually strong with nascent powers of the Force, and must contend with the mysterious return of the Sith.

This is the worst pile of crap in the world.  I mean it has one of the worst plots in the world, it's way to political, it's very racist and it has one of the worst and stupidest characters in the saga Jar Jar Binks. The dialogue is dreadful and some of the characters in the film were simply made for merchandising purposes. The heavy reliance of CGI and the lack of character development and characters to care about really ruins the film. Also I hated Jake Lloyd as he was just a whiny, annoying and obnoxious little kid that can't act worth a crap. Now I will say that the action in the film is amazing and the lightsaber fights in this film are the best of the saga without a doubt no questions asked. I have two favorite scenes in the film one is the podrace and then ending duel between Darth Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, but those are the two things I mainly remember in an otherwise really forgetful and boring movie. I also like the acting of Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor. But overall the film is a crap fest and it makes the entire Star Wars saga look awful. Overall i give Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace a 3 out of 10.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Film poster. A young man is seen embracing a young woman. A man holds a lightsaber. In the foreground, there is a man wearing a suit.

The film is set 10 years after the events in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, when the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. Under the leadership of a renegade Jedi named Count Dooku (played by Christopher Lee), thousands of planetary systems threaten to secede from the Galactic Republic. When an assassination attempt is made on Senator Padmé Amidala (played by Natalie Portman), the former Queen of Naboo, Jedi apprentice Anakin Skywalker (played by Hayden Christensen) is assigned to protect her, while his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) is assigned to investigate the assassination attempt. Soon, Anakin, Padmé, and Obi-Wan are drawn into the heart of the Separatist territories and the beginning of a new threat to the galaxy, the Clone Wars.

People often say that The Phantom Menace is worst film of the prequels, but I call bull because this one is much worse. The film's dialogue is horrid and the sappy love story between Padme and Anakin just makes me sick. There is honestly nothing to remember about the film other than it was crap. Now I will say that the story is more compelling than Episode I becasue it pertains and connects to the overall story of the saga. The action in the film is great and the end lightsaber battle is great. But overall the film is stale and boring and there is nothing very memorable about the film and I'm going to give Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones a 2.5 out of 10.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

The Jedi Knights are spread out across the galaxy leading a massive clone army in the war against the Separatists. The Jedi Council dispatches Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) to eliminate the evil General Grievous (voiced by Matthew wood), leader of the Separatist Army. Meanwhile, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker (played by Hayden Christensen), separated from Kenobi, his former master, grows close to Palpatine (played by Ian McDiarmid), the Chancellor of the Galactic Republic and, unknown to the public, a Sith Lord. Their deepening friendship proves dangerous for the Jedi Order, the Republic, and Anakin himself who inevitably succumbs to the dark side of the Force and becomes Darth Vader, changing the fate of the galaxy forever.

This is by far the best of the prequels. If the previous two films were like this one then the prequel trilogy would have been much better. The action is great and the story is very compelling as we get to see everything that the original trilogy had promised us. The emotion put forth by the actors in the film is amazing. During the climatic battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin I was on pins and needles throughout (even though I knew what the outcome would be). Also the visuals and cinematography of the film are just breathtakingly amazing. The few negatives I have about the film include the romance scenes (which made me throw up a little in my mouth) as well as some pretty shaky dialogue throughout the film. Overall I was pleased with the conclusion of the prequels and I really enjoyed the film and I give Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith a 9 out of 10.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
StarWarsMoviePoster1977.jpg

A group of freedom fighters known as the Rebel Alliance plot to destroy the powerful Death Star space station, a devastating weapon created by the evil Galactic Empire. This conflict disrupts the isolated life of farmboy Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill) when he inadvertently acquires the droids carrying the stolen plans to the Death Star. After the Empire begins a cruel and destructive search for the droids, Skywalker decides to accompany Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) on a daring mission to rescue the owner of the droids, rebel leader Princess Leia (played by Carrie Fisher), and save the galaxy.

This film is amazing. The film has revolutionized the way we use technology today. The film has some memorable dialogue in cinematic history and some of the best action sequences of all-time. The overall concept of the story is amazing and the film has a lot of great and masterful character development. It's a very entertaining film and one of the most memorable films ever. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the film and it is one of the films that has influenced my childhood and has had a special impact on my life. I give Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope a 10 out of 10.

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
SW - Empire Strikes Back.jpg

The film is set three years after Star Wars. The Galactic Empire, under the leadership of the villainous Darth Vader (played by David Prowse and voiced by James Earl Jones), is in pursuit of Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill) and the rest of the Rebel Alliance. While Vader chases a small band of Luke's friends—Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford), Princess Leia Organa (played by Carrie Fisher), and others—across the galaxy, Luke studies the Force under Jedi Master Yoda (played by Frank Oz). But when Vader captures Luke's friends, Luke must decide whether to complete his training and become a full Jedi Knight or to confront Vader and save his comrades.

The film is magnificent. The story, the romance the action and possibly one of the greatest twists in cinematic history is revealed through this riveting and dynamic narrative. The story is filled beautiful cinematography, action and a lot of emotion. Now some will say the story is boring and doesn't have all of the suspense that the other films have had. I say to that that you don't need constant action to have an awesome film, sometimes you need a film that builds up the story to get to the climatic end to the story arch. Overall I thought the film did a great job a story and character development that builds to the conclusion and I give Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back a 10 out of 10.

Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
ReturnOfTheJediPoster1983.jpg

The evil Galactic Empire, under the direction of the ruthless Emperor Palpatine (played by Ian McDiarmid), is constructing a second Death Star in order to crush the Rebel Alliance. Since Palpatine plans to personally oversee the final stages of its construction, the Rebel Fleet launches a full-scale attack on the Death Star in order to prevent its completion and kill Palpatine, effectively bringing an end to the Empire once and for all. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill), the Rebel leader and Jedi Apprentice, struggles to bring Darth Vader (played by David Prowse and voiced by James Earl Jones), who is his father Anakin and himself a fallen Jedi, back from the Dark Side of the Force.

The film is pretty darn great. This film is wonderful and magnificent conclusion to the Star Wars saga. The film packs in a great ending to what has a been a fun-filled, imaginative thrilling and emotional ride. Now I will say that while the film brings the saga to a great close it is not without it's problems. One which includes the kid-friendly Ewoks who while are cute are also somewhat relatively stupid. Another negative is that the film takes way to long to get to get to the climax and ultimate ending as it continues to build on to the story when it's completely unnecessary since The empire Strikes back set-up the story for a nice smooth finish. Overall though i enjoyed the film and it is a fitting end to the Star Wars saga (for now) and I give Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi a 9 out of 10.
