5-6-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Marvel Studios has unveiled a big poster for a small hero with the official theatrical one-sheet for Ant-Man! Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd (This is 40, They Came Together), Evangeline Lilly (“LOST,” The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies), Corey Stoll (This is Where I Leave You, Non-Stop) and Michael Douglas (The Game, And So It Goes) and brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Also starring are Judy Greer (“Archer,” Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Bobby Cannavale (Chef, Blue Jasmine), Michael Pena (End of Watch, Fury), Martin Donovan (Inherent Vice, Insomnia), Wood Harris (Dredd, Remember the Titans), John Slattery (“Mad Men,” Iron Man 2), Gregg Turkington (“Gravity Falls,” The Comedy), Abby Ryder Fortson (“Togetherness,” “The Whispers”), David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight, Prisoners) and T.I. (Takers, “House of Lies”), Ant-Man features a script by Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, Paul Rudd and Adam McKay. Look for it to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.

Marvel's Ant-Man

This is a pretty terrible poster. Now I know I said that I like The Avengers: Age of Ultron poster a few months ago, but I didn't realize at the time that it was pretty much the same generic bland poster that Marvel has been putting out for a while now. I'm already excited for the film so that poster doesn't take away from my excitement, I just wish that Marvel would be more creative with their posters.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new trailer for the Magic Mike sequel, Magic Mike XXL, which you can look at but not touch below! The studio has also released new posters for the film which you can check out underneath. Returning stars Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias are joined by newcomers Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games franchise), Donald Glover (“Community”), Amber Heard (The Rum Diary), Andie MacDowell (Footloose), Jada Pinkett Smith (“Gotham”) and Michael Strahan (“Live with Kelly and Michael”) with Emmy Award winner Gregory Jacobs (Behind the Candelabra), who served as a producer on Magic Mike, directing and producing. Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, Magic Mike XXL finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways. Magic Mike XXL also reunites Magic Mike producers Nick Wechsler, Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin, with a screenplay by Carolin. Soderbergh, who directed the first film, is executive producing. Look for the sequel in theaters on Wednesday, July 1.

This was a really bland trailer. Now let state that I enjoyed the first movie for what it was and the first trailer actually had me laughing a little, but this one did nothing for me. It just didn't get me excited for the film. I'll still see it (it's my job), but I honestly don't know if this can live up to the first film.

The first trailer for the upcoming comedy drama Ricki and the Flash is here and you can check it out in below. Directed by the Academy Award winning Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia) and scripted by fellow Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Young Adult, Juno), Ricki and the Flash sees three time Oscar winner Meryl Streep taking on a whole new gig as a hard-rocking singer/guitarist. The original film, loaded with live musical performances, stars Streep as Ricki Rendazzo, a guitar heroine who made a world of mistakes as she followed her dreams of rock-and-roll stardom. Returning home, Ricki gets a shot at redemption and a chance to make things right as she faces the music with her family. Streep stars opposite her real-life daughter, Mamie Gummer, as well as Rick Springfield, who portrays a Flash member in love with Ricki, Kevin Kline, who stars as Ricki’s ex-husband, and Audra McDonald, who plays Kline’s new wife. Ricki and the Flash is produced by Cody, Marc Platt, Mason Novick and Gary Goetzman and executive produced by Ron Bozman, Adam Siegel, Lorene Scafaria and Ben Waisbren.

This was a great trailer. Now I'm not a big fan of Meryl Streep getting nominated every year for every movie she is in, but this is the one time I want her to be nominated. This role and film has Oscar written all over it from the cast to the director Johnathan Demme who gets his actors nominated for Oscars (i.e Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia and Rachel Getting Married) to the writer Diablo Cody who is terrific n her own write. This gives me the same feelings that I had towards Crazy Heart which oddly enough was the film that got Jeff Bridges an Oscar. This film has a lot of potential and I can't wait to see it.

Although it’s not entirely a surprise given the importance of the character of in the comics, Deadline has just confirmed that “Revenge” star Emily VanCamp will be reprising her Captain America: The Winter Soldier role as Agent 13 in next year’s Captain America: Civil War. She joins a massive ensemble, currently set to include Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Robert Downey Jr., Martin Freeman, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo and Chadwick Boseman! Posing as the Avenger’s neighbor, “Kate,” Agent 13 was tasked with keeping an eye on Steve Rogers for S.H.I.E.L.D. Although the character in the film is clearly based on the comics’ Sharon Carter (the niece of Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter), Agent 13’s actual name in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has not been wholly confirmed. It’s a safe bet that we’re going to know a whole lot more about her, however, this same time next year. Civil War, the first “Phase Three” film from Marvel Studios, follows the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and sees the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies. Set to be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (the Winter Soldier sibling pair that are also helming the two-part Avengers: Infinity War), Captain America: Civil War hits theaters and IMAX on May 6, 2016.

Like the article says this is not surprising news to hear. I mean for one she is Peggy Carter (Cap's love interest for more than 70 years)'s daughter so that makes her important already and the fact that her character will be vital in the film as was in the comics (she is Cap's girlfriend in the comics). I really liked what she did in Captain America: The Winter Solider (eventhough the role was small) and I can't wait to see her story progress in Civil War.

Sony Pictures Animation has revealed a new domestic teaser poster for Genndy Tartakovsky’s upcoming animated sequel Hotel Transylvania 2 and you can check it out below. Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania… Dracula’s (Sandler) rigid monster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of being a vampire. So while Mavis (Selena Gomez) is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny (Andy Samberg) – and in for a major cultural shock of her own – “Vampa” Drac enlists his friends Frank (Kevin James), Murray (Keegan-Michael Key), Wayne (Steve Buscemi) and Griffin (David Spade) to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. But little do they know that Drac’s grumpy and very old, old, old school dad Vlad (Mel Brook) is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood – and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania – things are going to get batty! Released in 2012, the original Hotel Transylvania was helmed by Tartakovsky, the creator of hit animated series like “Dexter’s Laboratory” and “Samurai Jack,” and grossed more than $350 million at the worldwide box office. Featuring a script by Adam Sandler and Robert Smigel, Hotel Transylvania 2 hits the big screen September 25, 2015.

Hotel Transylvania 2

This is another bland poster. I mean it just shows the main essential characters and that's it. If you want to get someone excited for a film you have to give them a nice teaser poster. a trailer will drop tomorrow (as most do with a new poster release) so maybe that will get me a little excited. I liked the first film and maybe this one can be just as good.
