3-24-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Following the first trailer that hit back in January, 20th Century Fox has today released a new poster for director Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four and you can check it below. An origin story said to be inspired largely by the “Ultimate Fantastic Four” comics (the first arc of which was written by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar with Joe Kubert illustrating), Fantastic Four offers a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team. The story centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. “Marvel’s First Family” will include Whiplash‘s Miles Teller as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), “House of Cards” star Kate Mara as Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman), Fruitvale Station and Chronicle‘s Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) and The Adventures of Tintin‘s Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm (The Thing). Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ Toby Kebbell will also star as Doctor Doom alongside Reg E. Cathey (“The Wire”) as as Dr. Franklin Storm and Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) as Harvey Elder, aka The Mole Man. Fantastic Four features a screenplay by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and is set to hit the big screen August 7.

Fantastic Four

This is a pretty nice looking poster. Now granted it's nothing original, but it's still cool to see all of the characters together for the first time (other than the trailer). This film has been ridiculed from day one and I have been behind it supporting it. I hope the film is great so it can prove all of the haters wrong.

Casting continues on Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2 and this time it’s the announcement that Vivica A. Fox, who played Jasmine Dubrow in the 1996 original, will return for the June 24, 2016 sequel. Fox joins a cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Charlotte Gainsbourg. It is believed that Bill Pullman will be returning in some capacity as well, but the actor’s involvement has not yet been confirmed. Independence Day 2 is looking to begin production in May with a script most recently rewritten by Carter Blanchard (best known for the short-lived 2009 series “G vs E”). Previous drafts were done by Emmerich and Dean Devlin, and then by James Vanderbilt. The original Independence Day opened on July 3, 1996 and earned an impressive $817.4 million worldwide. Emmerich is also set to produce the sequel alongside Devlin and Harald Kloser.

This is a great idea. It's really good seeing Fox return for the sequel because she did play an intricate part in the first film. With her returning I think the big question I had is finally answered. Since Will smith isn't returning, but Vivica A. Fox and Jessie Usher is playing a grown-up version of her son, I think Will Smith's character has passed away since the end of the first film. Anyway this is great to hear and look I know a lot of people don't want to see this, but c'mon the film made a lot of money so you had to know that this was coming.

Four time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper is gearing up to make his directorial debut. Deadine has the news, reporting that Cooper is planning to direct as well as potentially star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming remake of A Star is Born. The film was previously in the planning stages with Beyonce set to headline and Clint Eastwood attached to direct. Following Beyonce’s departure from the project in 2012, movement on the feature film seemed to stall. Today’s report suggests, however, that Cooper will not only take over from his American Sniper director, but that tentative plans are to get Beyonce back onto the project. The new version of A Star is Born will mark the fourth big-screen iteration of the film. William A. Wellman directed the 1937 original with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The 1954 George Cukor film is probably the best known, starring Judy Garland and James Mason. 1976 saw Frank Pierson tackle an updated version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Cooper will rewrite the current draft of A Star is Born with previously attached scribe Will Fetter and and will also serve as a producer alongside Billy Gerber, Basil Iwany and Jon Peters.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Bradley Cooper is now becoming one of those guys that people will always remember for years to come and he's now at a point in his career where he wants to direct as well as act and I think this is a great film for him to tackle. I think him and Beyonce could actually have a lot of chemistry between each other and if she is good enough she may walk away with an Oscar just like Jennifer Hudson did for Dreamgirls. This film has had plenty of remakes, but nothing will ever compare to the very first film, but I hope this film will do it justice.

Warner Bros. Pictures has just brought online a new trailer for the upcoming Entourage movie and you can check it out below. Written and directed by series creator Doug Ellin, the big-screen version of the hit show stars Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven in their original roles, as well as Billy Bob Thornton and Haley Joel Osment as Larsen and Travis McCredle. The film also reunites series regulars Perrey Reeves as Ari Gold’’s wife, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Sloan, and Rhys Coiro as Billy Walsh. Entourage is produced by Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Ellin, with Wayne Carmona serving as executive producer. The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Steve Fierberg, production designer Chase Harlan, and costume designer Olivia Miles-Payne, all of whom worked on the long-running HBO series. Movie star Vincent Chase (Grenier), together with his boys, Eric (Connolly), Turtle (Ferrara) and Johnny (Dillon), are back… and back in business with super agent-turned-studio head Ari Gold (Piven). Some of their ambitions have changed, but the bond between them remains strong as they navigate the capricious and often cutthroat world of Hollywood. Entourage will open in theaters nationwide on June 5, 2015.

This was actually a really great trailer. Like I've said before the show has always interested me, but I've never gotten to watch it. The film looks like it is going to be a lot of fun and the celebrity cameos are outrageous. Hopefully I can see the tv show before the movie comes out.

Fans of Comedy Central’s sketch show “Key & Peele” have something to look forward to on the big screen. According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures has plans to develop one of the comedy duo’s recurring sketch characters into the feature film Substitute Teacher. The original “Substitute Teacher” sketch  stars Keegan-Michael Key as Mr. Garvey, an inner-city substitute who doesn’t quite fit in when he’s assigned to teach a room full of middle-class white students. According to the outlet, Jordan Peele will take on the role of a rival teacher for a feature length adventure scripted by Alex Rubens and Rich Talarico. Although both talents will soon be together again for the fifth season of their series, Key and Peele have also been working separately as of late. Key appeared last year in films like Let’s Be Cops and Horrible Bosses 2 while Peele is slated to appear in the upcoming Netflix series “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp”. Both actors also starred together on the first season of “Fargo”. Key and Peele will both also produce Substitute Teacher through 21 Laps alongside Dan Levine and Shawn Levy. Principato Young Entertainment’s Peter Principato, Paul Young and Joel Zadak will also produce with Will Rack overseeing for 21 Laps.

This is a great idea. I'm a huge fan of Key and Peele and one of there greatest skits is Substitute Teacher and it is absolutely hilarious. I really like the concept they have come up with because I was wondering how they would make this into a movie. Like I'm I said i'm a huge fan and I cannot wait to see the movie whenever it comes out.
