3-2-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

The next big screen Spider-Man adventure appears to have found its director! According to Latino Review, Drew Goddard will both write and direct the upcoming reboot, which is to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Goddard is no stranger to either Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures. He was previously set at the showrunner on “Marvel’s Daredevil” before taking writing and directing duties on Sony’s previously-planned Sinister Six film. Previous reports have indicated that we’ll get our first look at the new Spidey in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, set for release on May 6, 2016. He’ll then get his own solo film, written and directed by Goddard, set for release on July 28, 2017. Goddard also has quite a history with Joss Whedon, having served as a writer on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” before collaborating with Whedon on the screenplay to The Cabin in the Woods. Goddard also made his directing debut with that film, which was released in 2012 and included, among its ensemble cast, MCU star Chris Hemsworth. Goddard’s other writing credits include World War Z, Cloverfield and Ridley Scott’s upcoming The Martian. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will produce the film, which has previous franchise producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach being given Executive Producer titles.

If this does come true then I'm am ok with it. Now just remember that neither Marvel or Sony have not confirmed this and it is still a rumor. Now let's go on the fact that it is true and I am perfectly fine with it and it makes perfect sense. Drew Goddard has a great working relationship with Sony, plus he is good friends with Joss Whedon who probably put in a good word for him. I really like the choice and hopefully it comes true.

Having received an Academy Award nomination for his work in Training Day, Ethan Hawke has, according to a story today at Variety, joined the cast of director Antoine Fuqua’s latest, The Magnificent Seven. There, Hawke will also once again appear opposite Denzel Washington (who took home an Oscar for Training Day) and will also join Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Chris Pratt and The Equalizer‘s Haley Bennett. Originally drafted by “True Detective” scribe Nic Pizzolatto (since rewritten by The Blind Side‘s John Lee Hancock), The Magnificent Seven will remake the 1960 film directed by John Sturges that itself was inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic Seven Samurai. Sturges’ version starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Robert Vaughn as a group of disparate gunmen who come together to protect a Mexican village from bandits led by Eli Wallach. It led to a number of sequels as well as a CBS television series. The new film is said to feature victimized a mining town, taken over by a gold baron, rather than the Mexican village of the original.

This is perfect and not surprising casting. Ethan Hawke has had a good track record working with Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington (he got nominated for and Oscar for Training Day). I have been behind this idea for a really long time and the casting of Hawke just makes me more excited to see this film. I'm also really curious to see who else they cast in the film.

20th Century Fox has pulled the trigger on the international poster for their upcoming video game adaptation, Hitman: Agent 47 and you can check it out below. Directed by first time helmer Aleksander Bach, the new film stars Rupert Friend (“Homeland,” The Young Victoria), Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, Margin Call), Hannah Ware (“Betrayal,” “Boss”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Dracula,” Avengers: Age of Ultron), Dan Bakkedahl (The Heat, Observe and Report) and Ciaran Hinds (Frozen, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby). Based on the top-selling, award-winning videogame franchise, Hitman: Agent 47 is an all-new motion picture about an elite and genetically engineered assassin, known only by the last two digits 47 of a barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. His latest target is a young woman on the run from powerful and clandestine forces. The mission brings startling revelations about the lethal agent and his prey, hurtling them on a collision course with their pasts. And this time, his number may be up. The Square Enix title (previously from Eidos Interactive) was turned into the 2007 movie Hitman with Timothy Olyphant in the lead. The Xavier Gens-directed action thriller earned just under $100 million at worldwide theaters. Scripted by Skip Woods, Kyle Ward and Michael Finch, Hitman: Agent 47 hits theaters on August 28.

Hitman: Agent 47

I really like this poster. It doesn't show much, but it does show enough to peak my interest. Look I absolutely hated the first film and I am a huge fan of the game franchise and I just want to see a good film based off of a video game and this could start building the momentum for the genre.

Two major Hollywood talents are set to team up today as Deadline reports that Jennifer Lawrence is set to headline a planned adaptation of war photographer Lynsey Addario’s memoir “It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War” that has Steven Spielberg attached to direct. Warner Bros. Pictures secured the big screen rights to the original book, released just last month with the following official description: Lynsey Addario was just finding her way as a photographer when September 11th changed the world. One of the few photojournalists with experience in Afghanistan, she gets the call to return and cover the American invasion. She makes a decision she would often find herself making—not to stay home, not to lead a quiet or predictable life, but to risk her life, to set out across the world, and to make a name for herself. It’s What I Do follows a course unavoidable for Addario—from her first camera and the pictures it inspired, to early years as a street photographer and the inspiration she found in the work of Sebastião Salgado. Photography becomes a way for her to travel with a purpose—a singular ambition that shapes and drives her.

As a woman photojournalist determined to be taken as seriously as her male peers, Addario fights her way into a boy’s club of a profession, eventually earning widespread recognition, a MacArthur Genius Grant, and a Pulitzer Prize. Refusing to turn down career-defining assignments, she puts romance and family on hold. Yet the sadness and injustice she encounters as as a conflict reporter give her a new vision for her own life, and the more she sees of the world, the greater her desires for love and family grow. It’s What I Do is also the story of how Addario met her husband and father to their child, and how as a war correspondent and a mother, she learned to live her life in two different—though hardly separate—worlds. Watching uprisings unfold and people fight to the death for their freedom, Addario understands she is documenting not only news but also the fate of society. It’s What I Do is more than just a snapshot of life on the front lines; it is witness to the human cost of war. Andrew Lazar is attached to produce the big screen version.

This sounds like a great idea. One of the hottest actresses on the planet both figuratively and literally is Jennifer Lawrence and her working with one of the greatest directors of all-time is a fantastic decision. This film also sounds really interesting and I think that Spielberg is the perfect choice to direct and I cannot wait to see the film.

Jamie Dornan’s first post-Fifty Shades of Grey contract didn’t take nearly as long to sign as Anastasia Steele’s, since The Hollywood Reporter informs us that he will star opposite fellow Irishman Cillian Murphy in true-life WWII thriller Anthropoid. The film tells the story of the brave Czech soldiers Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš, who were trained by the British and airlifted into Prague in May of 1942 to assassinate ruthless SS leader Reinhard Heydrich, AKA “The Hangman.” The story has been told on film several times before, most recently in Lewis Gilbert’s 1975 film Operation Daybreak. British helmer Sean Ellis, whose Cashback was nominated for a Best Live-Action Short Film Oscar in 2006, will direct from a screenplay he wrote with Anthony Frewin (Color Me Kubrick). Anthropoid is produced by Leonard Glowinski, Anita Overland and Chris Curling. Krystof Mucha and David Ondricek of Lucky Man Films are co-producers for the Czech Republic, where the film will shoot exclusively starting in July.

This is pretty bad casting. Listen the only thing really have to judge Dornan is Fifty Shades of Grey and he was pretty terrible in the film. This film sounds really interesting and the only hope for this film success is Cillian Murphy who is a very underrated actor and this could be his chance to shine.
