10-2-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Back in July, it was revealed that three-time Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix was being considered for the title role in Marvel Studios' upcoming film Doctor Strange. Though rumors persisted that negotiations were still ongoing, Deadline now brings word that those talks have fallen through and Marvel is on the hunt for another actor. Previous rumors indicated interest on Marvel's part for Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy, but it's unclear who they will target next.

Though no official release date has been set for the film, the time table for production would lead one to believe that Doctor Strange will land on the July 8, 2016 release date that Marvel previously set, but this has not been confirmed. Check back here for more details on Doctor Strange as we learn them.

Doctor Strange is based on the character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, who made his first appearance in 1963's "Strange Tales" #110. It follows the adventures of Stephen Strange (nodded at in this year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier), a brilliant neurosurgeon who, following a car accident, loses precision in his hands. His quest to regain his former skills sets Strange on a path to become the "Master of the Mystic Arts."

This is shocking news. Over the past couple of months it was assumed and set in stone the Phoenix was going to play Dr. Strange. But now hearing this, I'm really curious to see who marvel gets. My first choice has always been Patrick Dempsy, but until this persons name has come up he has been my frontrunner and that would be Jared Leto. All I can say is that this will be one of the most anticipated castings since Ben Affleck became Batman.

Despite grossing over half a billion dollars at the global box office, Warner Bros' 2007 adaptation I Am Legend has never seen a follow up hit theaters, though there have been repeated attempts to bring about a prequel and a sequel to the big screen. Now it seems the studio is going another route as Deadline brings word WB will be rebooting the franchise. The outlet reports that writer Gary Graham wrote an original screenplay titled "A Garden at the End of the World" which the studio saw as having similar themes and mythology to the film and decided it could be re-written as a reboot of the franchise. Though it shared a few similarities to the Richard Matheson novel, the Will Smith-starring I Am Legend featured a number of differences from the original text, including the setting, Robert Neville's occupation, and the crux of the title itself that the main character, as the last person on earth, had become "The Boogeyman."

I just want to ask the question of why? I mean is the studio that desperate to get another film out that they'll reboot it after 8 years and the original film making over $500 million. Look if they wanted to continue the franchise then make a prequel or a sequel and if you get Will Smith to come back then move on without him, it's that simple. This is the second stupidest idea I've heard all week (only behind the Tetris movie).

The Weinstein Company has unveiled a new trailer for The Imitation Game, opening in theaters on November 21 and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance, Allen Leech and Matthew Beard and you can check it outn below.

The trailer shows the full scope of the World War II tale of revolutionary technological advancement, which is already considered an awards season frontrunner for Best Picture nominations. The English-language debut of Norwegian director Morten Tyldum (Headhunters), the film was the toast of the recent 39th Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the top honor "People's Choice Award for Best Film."

In The Imitation Game, Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing, the genius British mathematician, logician, cryptologist and computer scientist who led the charge to crack the German Enigma Code that helped the Allies win WWII. Turing went on to assist with the development of computers at the University of Manchester after the war, but was prosecuted by the UK government in 1952 for homosexual acts which the country deemed illegal.

This was an awesome trailer. It really gave a little more insight to what the film is about and it also packed and emotional punch. The film looks to be potential Oscar bait and Cumberbatch looks like he is giving the best performance of his career and it could earn him an Oscar nomination

For our first glimpse at the world of Inside Out, Disney/Pixar's newest classic-in-the-making, the animation giant really wants to remind you how many awesome movies they've already made. The trailer consists of a lot of footage from previous Pixar efforts like Toy Story, The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc. Check it out in the player below!

Here's the synopsis:Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

Inside Out is written and directed by Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up) with co-director Ronnie del Carmen. It is due for release June 19, 2015, only five months before Pixar's next effort The Good Dinosaur opens on November 25, 2015.

This was a nice little teaser trailer. I really liked how it showed the emotions involved in this film that are also involved in every other Pixar film. Pixar has really taken a step back in recent years and I personally think that this film could bring a reinsurance to the studio.

Harry Potter as Michael Caine's son in Now You See Me 2? It's happening! HeyUGuys tells us they got a chance to talk to Michael Caine, who dropped this surprise on them: "There's a sequel to Now You See Me and we're shooting in London. I shoot in December, the whole of December in London, and my son is Harry Potter. I thought it'd be funny, me and Daniel Radcliffe as father and son."

Jon M. Chu is directing the sequel, which also stars Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Morgan Freeman. It's set for a June 10, 2016 release.
Released in 2013, Now You See Me grossed more than $350 million with the story of "The Four Horsemen," a super-team of the world's greatest illusionists who pull off a series of daring heists against corrupt business leaders during their performances, showering the stolen profits on their audiences while staying one step ahead of the law.

This is pretty great casting. Look Daniel Radcliffe has had a really hard time getting out of the shadow of Harry Pottter (The Woman in Black did alright but not that great). I feel that being in this type of movie will really help get out of that shadow. He's already going to play Igor in an upcoming Frankenstein movie so he's trying, but I think this role will help more. Plus it 'll be pretty cool to see be Micheal Caine's son in the film.
