My Review of Youth

So I recently watched Youth and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.............

Fred (played by Michael Caine), a retired composer and conductor, vacations at a Swiss Spa with his longtime friend Mick (played by Harvey Keitel). As Mick crafts what may be his final screenplay, Fred is given the opportunity to perform for the Queen.

This was a somewhat interesting yet really boring film. First the performances are just top-notch from a stellar cast that includes Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Jane Fonda, Paul Dano and Rachel Weisz and I expect at least Rachel Weisz and Jane Fonda to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress and they both have shots to win due to the category being weaker than has been in year's past. The cinematography is just absolutely gorgeous and it's helped by the beautiful landscape of Switzerland and all of the shots just bring you into the world of this movie and you feel like you're their with the characters. But other than those two things, the film doesn't have much going for it. The story is pretty bland and the characters aren't developed well at all to the point where you know just about everything that will happen to them throughout the entire film. It also tries to play the emotion card on you and where you already know what's going to happen to the characters you get the intended impact. Paolo Sorrentino is a fantastic director and this is only his second American film (The Great Beauty in 2013 was his other film) and it seems he's not quite used to director American films yet, but I fully believe that this guy will be a force to be reckoned with. Overall the film is predictable and the film is really carried by the amazing talent of actors assembled in the film. I give Youth a 5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Youth, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
