My Review of Legend

So I recently watched Legend and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...........

Suave, charming and volatile, Reggie Kray (played by Tom Hardy) and his unstable twin brother Ronnie (also played by Tom Hardy) start to leave their mark on the London underworld in the 1960s. Using violence to get what they want, the siblings orchestrate robberies and murders while running nightclubs and protection rackets. With police Detective Leonard "Nipper" Read (played by Christopher Eccleston) hot on their heels, the brothers continue their rapid rise to power and achieve tabloid notoriety.

This was a pretty disappointing movie. Tom Hardy is one of the most talented actors on the planet and this was a major challenge for him to play two brothers that are completely  opposite people and he pulls off both roles brilliantly, He brings a lot of intensity and humor to each Kray brother, but while the performance is great, the film around him isn't. The story is just a jumbled mess and Christopher Eccleston just isn't that convincing as a "villain". The story just gets really boring and it doesn't make much sense. This based off of real-life criminal twins and going you may not know a lot about them and the film does explain a few things about them, but it more or less focuses on one or two major events in their lives. The cinematography is just excellent and that's attributed to Academy Award nominated cinematographer Dick Pope and he sets up every shot beautifully and the action is perfectly paced throughout and it doesn't hurt with excellent camerawork. The supporting cast besides Eccleston are pretty decent and they tend to stay more in the background and they just seem like they are going through the motions more than anything else. Brian Helgeland is a fantastic screenwriter and going he thought he could make this somewhat like one of the other films he wrote (L.A. Confidential) and he does do that to a point, but he just tries way too hard to get the job done. Overall this was a poorly written film and a film that should've been an amazing coming out party for Tom Hardy, but there isn't enough around him for the film to work. I give Legend a 5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Legend, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
