My Review of Life (2015)

So I recently watched Life (2015) and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado....

The story follows Dennis Stock (played by Robert Pattinson), who works at the Magnum Photos Agency and got an assignment to shoot rising Hollywood star James Dean (played by Dane DeHaan), before the release of East of Eden. Friendship developed between them during the assignment, as the pair traveled from Los Angeles to New York to Indiana.

This was a pretty interesting film to watch. James Dean is one of those Hollywood icons that we didn't get to see the full extent of his career due to his tragic passing in 1955 and it's a shame because he had so much talent and to see a film like this was great. It gives a little bit more insight to how James Dean prepared for roles and how candid he was. The performances are just outstanding from both Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan who did a fantastic impression of James Dean and it's easily the best portrayal of him yet. We haven't gotten many true bio-pics based on James Dean and while this doesn't tell much about his life outside of these interviews, it was still refreshing. The problem however is that it tries to fit a lot of fluff material that shouldn't have been in the film. The focus of the film often drifts away from Stock and Dean and focuses on too many other people who have no relevance to the overall story. Also some of the dialogue is just so unrealistic and doesn't make any sense as to why it was in the film. The film also doesn't really dive into the deep and dark moments of Dean's life and those would have been great aspects to tackle in something like a flashback or just subtle mentions of those would have helped the film's credibility. Overall this was an interesting yet really disappointing film that didn't tackle the issues that made James Dean who he really was. I give Life (2015) a 4 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Life (2015), what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard?
