So I recently watched The Big Short and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea: The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything.
This was a really fantastic film. The film does a great job of showing you the behinds the scenes ideas, meetings and encounters behind one of the biggest financial disasters in the history of the United States. While the film is tackling a very serious subject, director Adam McKay does a great job of blending in good amount of comedy which is is specialty and it works well with the cast in the film. Speaking of the cast, it is absolutely stacked with amazing Oscar nominated and winning talent. Christian Bale gives one of the best performances of his career and it's very possible he could slip into the Best supporting Actor Oscar race. Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt also do really great work when they are on screen together, but the real standout is Steve Carell who is just absolutely brilliant and he steals the show right from the get go. As mentioned before the story is just a tough subject to tackle especially after what happened when the crisis was officially over and it sometimes gets hard to follow along with when it brings up so many different words, theories and numbers and the film tries to explain those in a pretty unique way, but even after an explanation the events are still somewhat tough to follow. It also jumps around a lot and it makes the film even harder to follow along with. Overall this is an amazing film with brilliant performances, but the film just becomes to hard to follow for the 2 hour and 10 minute runtime. I give The Big Short an 8.5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The Big Short, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
