So I recently watched The Danish Girl and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
The remarkable love story inspired by the lives of artists Lili Elbe (played by Eddie Redmayne) and Gerda Wegener (played by Alicia Vikander). Lili and Gerda's marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili's groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.
This is an underwhelming and disappointing movie. Just to go ahead and get it out of the way, this film is pure Oscar bait and if you by into the hype then you'll overlook the huge flaws in the film. The performances are truly some of the best of they and both Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander have really good shots to take home Oscar gold next year (more the latter than the former). The story itself is one that needs to be told, but it's coming out in a time where the controversy of transgender people is very hot topic and mostly due to Caitlyn Jenner. The expectations going to film want you to think that the film will beat you over the head with transgender and LGBT rights and it really doesn't neither of those come up hardly at all in the film. Director Tom Hopper is one of the least known and underrated directors and he has an Academy Award for directing The King's Speech and in this film, it feels as if he just pushes his style down your throat and it doesn't really flow well with the story. On the technical side of thins this film could go on a huge run in costume, makeup and editing. The score from Alexandre Desplat is just epic and beautiful and it sweeps you off of your feet and it really puts you in the characters shoes throughout the film. The film does have a slow parts that felt really boring and did nothing to advance the plot in any way.. Overall this film has a lot fantastic performances and some great technical aspects, but the film didn't live up to the hype of what it could have been. I give The Danish Girl an 8 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The Danish Girl, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
