Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

Back in August, The Hunger Games' Jena Malone was spotted on the Michigan set of her Sucker Punch director's upcoming comic book showdown, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Today, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Malone will, indeed, appear in the film, although the precise role is anybody's guess. That hasn't stopped the speculation, however, with the most recent rumor being that Malone will play a female version of Robin. While that may end up being the case, she might also be playing someone else altogether. Read on to find out exactly what we know. A local Michigan news WILX10 posted a video claiming that the Zack Snyder film will feature a female version of Robin. That certainly does coincide with Snyder's Frank Miller-fueled approach to the material and it's quite possible that we'll be seeing some iteration of The Dark Knight Returns' Carrie Kelley on the big screen. Even if that's the case, however, Malone isn't necessarily going to be playing the part. Kelley was, after all, only 13 years old in The Dark Knight Returns. Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Scoot McNairy, the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
I absolutely love this casting. Jena Malone is a very talented actress and she has a bright career in front of her. Now as for who she is playing I'm sticking to my guns on this one and saying that she will be Carrie Kelly. I say that because the film is taking bits and pieces from The Dark Knight Returns (mainly the fourth book in the novel entitle The Dark Knight Falls). I have heard people suggest that she could be Catwoman, but I think it's way too early to introduce Selina Kyle. Now people will say that she's not 13 like Carrie, but in today's society Batman would look like a huge A-Hole for bringing a 13 year-old into battle with gangsters and thugs that could potentially kill her. All we can do right now is speculate and just wait to see what WB/DC announces.
By the end of Pacific Rim, our heroes Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) had successfully sealed the breach and saved humanity FOREVER… or perhaps not. Doing his damnedest to open a new portal to that alien world is director Guillermo del Toro, who is hard at work with screenwriter Zak Penn on crafting Pacific Rim 2, and he's given Collider an update on the sequel and the sequel after that. That's right, there will be a third one. "The direction we're going in is very different from the first," del Toro divulges. "All I can say is some of your favorite characters come back, some others don't because we have decided that we're going to shoot ambitiously and say 'Let's hope we have three movies,’'so some characters come in at the end of the second, hoping that it will ramp up on the third one. I hope people like it but you're gonna get a very different experience from the first one."
Given that we never got a Hellboy 3, it's very optimistic of del Toro to save characters for a rainy day. Who will be left out of the fun? Will Hunnam be replaced by a new leading man only to show up in the final minutes to save the day? What about Charlie Day's dorky scientist Newt being revealed as the master villain, as Day himself has suggested? Or it could be Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost, who told Mako rather Obi-Wan-like, "You can always find me in the drift!" Currently working on a second season of FX's "The Strain," putting the finishing touches on 2015's Crimson Peak and working on that mysterious esoteric black & white film of his, del Toro has still managed to crack the script for Pac Rim 2 with a very specific timetable. "We got the first draft of the movie now, and we are going to spend another 4-5 months on the screenplay before we start pre-production," del Toro confirmed. "We start pre-production next year in August-September and start shooting November-December next year." To be released by Universal (instead of Warner Bros.) through their deal with Legendary Pictures, Pacific Rim 2 currently has an April 7, 2017 release date.
This is pretty interesting to hear. Now I think Del Toro is getting a little ahead of himself simply because the 2nd film hasn't come out yet and the first film barely made enough of a profit to greenlight a sequel. Don't get me wrong it's great to be prepared, but in this buisness you need to wait before you do something. I absolutely loved the first film (it was my favorite film of last year) and I'm really looking forward to the sequel.
Although The Wolf of Wall Street's Margot Robbie was said to be up for the role earlier this year, Deadline is now reporting that Lucy and Marvel's The Avengers's Scarlett Johansson has been offered the leading role in DreamWorks' live-action adaptation of the popular manga Ghost in the Shell. Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders will helm the feature from a script by William Wheeler, based on the series by Masamune Shirow. Produced by Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul and with the backing of Steven Spielberg, the rights to Shirow's original 1989 complex futuristic thriller, about the members of a covert ops unit that takes on technology-related crime, were picked up several years ago with plans to use the latest 3D technology to film it. In Japan, the huge success of the comics led to a number of anime film adaptations, a TV series and a series of video games with DreamWorks releasing the second anime film in North America. It remains to be seen whether or not Johansson will take the part, although Robbie is now said to be out of the running altogether, instead targeting a role in director David Ayer's upcoming DC Comics adaptation, Suicide Squad.
This is really great casting. Scarlett Johansson is the hottest actress on the planet (in more ways then one) and casting her in the film is a great choice. I would've liked to have seen Margot Robbie in the role simply because she hasn't really done a lot and needs to establish herself with audiences. I think that this film would have shown what she can really do so hopefully (if she's not in this) then she gets cast in the Suicide Squad so she can show her chops.
Tom Hardy seems to be a popular man for comic book properties. He already took on Christian Bale's Batman in The Dark Knight Rises and, earlier this week, was said to be up for a role in David Ayer's Suicide Squad. Now TheWrap reports that 20th Century Fox is keen on casting the Mad Max: Fury Road star in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse. Hardy would play Apocalypse (that blueish fellow featured in the Days of Future Past post-credits tease). Created by Louise and Walter Simonson, Apocalypse (En Sabah Nur) made his debut in X-Factor #6. The world's first mutant, En Sabah Nur was born in Egypt around 3,000 BC and used advanced technology to make himself an eternal conquerer, believing whole heartedly in survival of the fittest. Kinberg, along with X2: X-Men United writers Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, is developing the screenplay for the film which Bryan Singer will return to once again direct. X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.
If true then this is amazing casting. Tom Hardy is one of the best actors in the business today and he is perfect for the role (if you haven't seen what Apocalypse looks like then do a comparison of Tom Hardy and Apocalypse). If he doesn't choose playing Apocalypse then I hope he does join the Suicide Squad and I would love to see him play Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. Whatever role her chooses I know he can knock it out of the park.
This year has seen more Halloween 3 rumblings than usual. It’s hard to sift through the rumors, but there has been a steady energy signaling that progress is being made and fans are edging closer to seeing Michael Myers return to the big screen. hockTillYouDrop.com was the only horror outlet to partake in a small Halloween screening event on Saturday at the AMC located on the Universal CityWalk Orlando. During a small press conference, Halloween Horror Nights creative director Mike Aiello and current "Halloween" series producer Malek Akkad (Moustapha Akkad's son) spoke about the new Halloween-themed maze featured at the theme park. Later in the discussion, Akkad presented an update on Halloween 3. "It's been a joy to work with so many creative people - ten films," Akkad said, touching the franchise's legacy. "We're working on eleven as we speak. We're working on a script right now. A new draft - perfect timing - is supposed to hit the day before Halloween. Hopefully my Halloween night reading will be a good read."Akkad remained secretive on the writers involved. The last entry in the "Halloween" series – Rob Zombie's Halloween II – hit theaters in 2009 and grossed nearly $40 million worldwide ($33 million domestically). Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer were brought in at one time to tackle Halloween 3D, however, Dimension Films and Trancas International opted to go in another direction.
Do we honestly need one. Look there were some redeeming qualities to the first two films, but they were just absolutely horrible. I think that the first two films told the story that Rob Zombie wanted to tell and they should just leave it at that. In my personal opinion I don't the film will happen and if it does then I won't see it unless Zombie directs.
