So I recently watched Whiplash and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.......
Andrew Neyman (played by Miles Teller) is an ambitious young jazz drummer, single-minded in his pursuit to rise to the top of his elite east coast music conservatory. Plagued by the failed writing career of his father (played by Paul Reiser), Andrew hungers day and night to become one of the greats. Terence Fletcher (played by J.K. Simmons), an instructor equally known for his teaching talents as for his terrifying methods, leads the top jazz ensemble in the school. Fletcher discovers Andrew and transfers the aspiring drummer into his band, forever changing the young man's life. Andrew's passion to achieve perfection quickly spirals into obsession, as his ruthless teacher continues to push him to the brink of both his ability-and his sanity.
This movie is simply amazing. Miles Teller is possibly the best actor under 30 in the business today and he proves it by giving the best performance of his young career and it could very well garner some attention for the Academy. Also J.K. Simmons gives an amazing and dark performance that will be the standout performance of his career and he will most likely be given an Oscar nomination and is my frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor. The chemistry between the two actors is simply amazing. The story in the film is simply dark, bruiting, refreshing and original and it's really great to see this type of film on the big screen. It will also keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. This was also director Damien Chazelle's second film and he has already proven that he can make a film that will be considered among the greats. Overall the film is refreshing and has some of the best performances of 2014 so far. I give Whiplash a 10 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Whiplash, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
