Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...
(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)
Marking a major twist to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "Phase Three," Variety is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. is close to joining the cast of Captain America 3 as Tony Stark and that the film will launch elements of the hit comic book crossover event, "Civil War" in the MCU. The news comes on the heels of an announcement from Marvel this morning that a new "Civil War" comic book is on the way next summer. Just last week, Downey hinted that something big was on the way, although it was briefly believed that he was referring to a fourth Iron Man film. Now, it seems quite likely that Marvel Studios has even bigger plans for Iron Man. Anthony and Joe Russo, the sibling director pair behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier are directing the May 6, 2016 film.
Ok let me star by saying that this is rumor and nothing official has been confirmed. Now with that out of the way this is major news if true. Like the article says this does go along with what Downey teased last week. The one wrinkle in this is that RDJ's current contract with Marvel is only supposed to last for two more films (The Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Avengers 3). Now anything is possible and her contract strike a new deal for more films or instead of The Avengers 3 this could be Downey's other film. All we can do now is wait for something official to come out from Marvel itself.
Charles Roven produced all three entries in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster Dark Knight trilogy, and now that he's knee deep in director Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he's talked to The Hollywood Reporter about why controversial choice Ben Affleck was always their #1 pick to reboot Batman. "He was the first guy we went to. That's who we wanted," explains Roven. "We knew that we wanted a very mature Batman, because we wanted to juxtapose him with this very young Superman. So we wanted a guy who was tougher, rugged, who had signs of life, who had lived a hard life, and we wanted the guy to have chops, for sure. So when we went down that list, there just weren't a tremendous number of guys who could carry that."
Roven says that while Nolan remains onboard the sequel to last year's Man of Steel as an executive producer, his involvement took a back seat to directing Interstellar, yet was integral in the casting of Affleck. Apparently another item on Roven, Snyder and Nolan's checklist for Bat-candidates was a height requirement, something which Affleck had in spades. "We also wanted a guy with big stature. Ben is 6' 4". Henry [Cavill] is 6'1". We wanted Batman to tower over Superman. Not hugely, not like a basketball player. Superman needed to 'look up' to Batman. We wanted that dynamic, and Ben could do that, easily," Roven continued.
Of course, other thesps were earmarked for the role at one point, including Ryan Gosling, who turned it down flat, and Josh Brolin, who had discussions with Zack Snyder that evolved into a mutual decision that it was not the best idea. Affleck needed a bit of persuading as well. "I wouldn't say he hesitated," Roven says of Affleck's decision. "I think that what he did do was that he made sure that he understood what Zack was looking for. [Affleck] wanted to know exactly how Zack planned on treating this Bruce Wayne that was going to make him completely different even though he was still Bruce Wayne, still Batman. He's much more of a social animal in the Bruce Wayne incarnation, but he's also an extremely rough guy in the Batman incarnation - very, very, very rough." Coming to theaters on May 6, 2016, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Scoot McNairy.
I really like reading these comments. It confirms what we had heard in the past that Ben Affleck was the first person contacted for the role. It also confirms that actors such as Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin were also contacted. Now for the reasoning behind casting Batman/Bruce Wayne is really interesting. It really gives us a sense of what type of a Batman we are getting which is one of the reasons why I love Batman so much. He has so much built up anger and takes it out on the ones who do wrong without killing. I'm super pumped for this film to come out and I don't know if I can wait any longer.
Back in August, the rumor broke that Sam Mendes' James Bond 24 was looking to cast an "iconic henchman." Now, Latino-Review reports that role has been filled by none other than Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista. "Whoever wins the role," reported MI-6 in the initial rumor, "will have several altercations with Daniel Craig's 007 throughout the film and also a driving sequence. Former sports athletes will be under consideration along with anyone 'very unusual'... The goal is to find the next Jaws or Oddjob - a henchman so different to anything that has gone before that they will become instantly iconic in the film series."
The same report suggested that the character was going by the name (or codename) Hinx behind the scenes, but that that name could potentially change prior to production. Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw are returning for the 24th Bond installment, which will again be directed by Skyfall helmer Sam Mendes. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson will produce. Lea Seydoux is also reportedly joining the cast as a new femme fatale. Still without an official title, Bond 24 is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6, 2015.
I really like this casting. Now look Dave Bautista isn't the greatest actor in the world, but if is put in the right role the he can succeed. If he doesn't talk much and just throws people around then he will possibly be the best part of the film. I feel that they are going down the route of a modern day Jaws (played by the late Richard Kiel) and I'm really curious to see how it works out and I caanot wait for this film.
Despite all of the rumors surrounding the film, little is known about the upcoming third (or thirteenth) Star Trek film, which is currently in development at Paramount Pictures. A draft of the script has been completed by screenwriter Roberto Orci along with writers Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, which Orci also plans to direct. Taking part in a Reddit AMA a few days ago, actor John Cho, who plays Hikaru Sulu in the films, was asked what he thought of Orci directing the third outing: "I'm absolutely confident in Bob. No one knows these characters better than Bob. And no one knows the Star Trek universe better than Bob. I think he's going to blow people away. And I don't know anything about Star Trek 3.... I'm guessing I'm in it? I just went in for a costume fitting." There’s no announced timeframe for the next "Star Trek" film as of yet, but the expectation is that the new film will land in theaters in 2016, just in time for the franchise’s 50th Anniversary.
These aren't shocking comments. It;s no secret that the cast of the film Loves Orci and they won't say an ill word about him. I think that I'm in the minority of people who like Roberto Orci. My main (like many others) concern with him directing the film is that this is his directorial debut and it;s a big budget film. I honestly feel that they should have gone with someone else, but I can see why they went with Orci sense he wrote the first two films in the rebooted franchise.
20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation have debuted a four-minute clip from The Penguins of Madagascar which you can watch below. Opening in theaters on November 26, the animated comedy features the voices of Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, Christopher Knights, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Jeong, Annet Mahendru, Peter Stormare and John Malkovich. Super spy teams aren’t born…they're hatched. Discover the secrets of the greatest and most hilarious covert birds in the global espionage biz: Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private. These elitists of the elite are joining forces with a chic undercover organization, The North Wind. Led by handsome and husky Agent Classified (we could tell you his name, but then…you know), voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch. Together, they must stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine, voiced by John Malkovich, from destroying the world as we know it.
This was a pretty cool little clip. The film looks like it tug at the good ol' heart strings while having some really funny moments. I'm gonna go ahead and say that this film will probably be nominated for Best Animated Film at The Oscars next year and it'll have a great chance to win.
