This is a huge piece of news so I figured I would write as it's own Movie News Blog (but don't worrh there will be a full Movie News Blog with the other stories of the day later tonight. So without further ado...
Earlier today the CEO of Warner Bros. (the parent company of DC studios) Kevin Tsujihara announced during Time Warner Investor Day announced the upcoming films for the DC Cinematic Universe. Here is the list of films announced with their release dates...
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice March 25, 2016
Suicide Squad August 5, 2016
Wonder Woman June 23, 2017
Justice League Part One November 12, 2017
The Flash March 23, 2018
Aquaman July 27,2018
Shazam April 5, 2019
Justice League Part Two June 14, 2019
Cyborg on April 3, 2020
Green Lantern (reboot) on June 19, 2020
Batman solo film and Man of Steel 2 are in development with no set release dates
Holy crap this list is amazing and DC just showed they have some guts. There are a lot of interesting things to talk about so let's jump right into it. The first thing that pops out to me is where are a Batman solo film and Man of Steel 2. Now they said that they are in development, but it's still shocking that they don't' have release dates yet. I feel that they are both going to be in this slate (my guess is Man of Steel 2 in either March or April 2017 and a new Batman solo film in October or November 2018). The only reason why I can think they didn't release those yet is because they are waiting til comic-con 2015 and that they want to show everyone else what other movies they are releasing besides those two film.
The second thing that popped out to me was a Wonder Woman solo film. The reason why this is big is because DC was the first one (out of Marvel and DC) to announce a female superhero stand alone film. I've been somewhat on the fence about Gal Gadot being cast as Wonder Woman, but the more and more I hear about her the more I'm buying into so we'll just have to wait and see.
Another thing that really stood out was both a Cyborg film and Green Lantern film are both on the way. Now let's start with Cyborg as this may be the biggest risk of all. Not a lot of people know who Cyborg is, but the good thing is that we'll get to see him in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice as Ray Fisher will be in the role. Hopefully he'll be an established character and a lovable one at that. The Green Lantern reboot is the best thing to come from the list as WB/DC will try to redeem themselves after the disaster film that came out back in 2011 (Before anyone asks no Ryan Reynolds will not be in the film as it as a reboot). It'll be really interesting to see who they cast for the role and if it will be a different incarnation (such as John Stewart, Guy Gardner or Kyle Rayner) and we may even see him in the Justice League film.
One other thing that stood out is the casting of The Flash as Erza Miller will be the fastest man alive and the casting of Aquaman as it was confirmed the Jason Mamoa will be the King of Atlantis. Now this is a big piece of news in the sens that we finally confirmed who Aquaman is and the he is getting a solo film and hopefully with a different title or keep the same title and add a subtitle like Aquaman: King of Atlantis or something along those lines. As for The Flash casting Ezra Miller is an interesting one simply because he's not a big name, but he is an amazing actor (see The Perks of Being a Wallflower). The Flash movie casting is also making people mad because they didn't cast Grant Gustin (who plays Barry Allen/The Flash on The Cw tv show The Flash). What people dont' get is that at comic-con 2014 WB/DC they announced that both the tv universe and the cinematic universe are going to be separate so people can just calm down. The only thing left to find out is which incarnation of The Flash they'll use whether it be Wally West, Bart Allen or Jay Garrick.
The final thing that was really interesting is the fact that Shazam won't be hitting theaters until 2019. I mean they already cast Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Black Adam just a few weeks ago. The only reason that I can explain why he was cast so early is because he might be showing up in the Justice League film as well or an earlier film.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen this list from WB/DC has just changed the game a little bit and now is the best time to be a comic book film fan. So what do you think of the list, what are some of the things that stood out to you and what are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
