1-29-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Universal Pictures has revealed the trailer for Seth MacFarlane’s Ted 2, which you can check out below. Underneath, you’ll also find new photos from the June 26 release. Written and directed by MacFarlane, Ted 2 is the follow-up to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time. Joined once again by star Mark Wahlberg and fellow Ted writers Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild, MacFarlane produces the live action/CG-animated comedy alongside Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber, as well as John Jacobs and Jason Clark. Ted 2 co-stars Amanda Seyfried, Morgan Freeman, Dennis Haysbert, Jessica Barth and Liam Neeson.

This trailer was hilarious. It did kind if giveaway the entire movie, but it was still entertaining and it made me excited to see the film. I Absolutely loved the first film and this one looks to be even funnier and I cannot wait to see it.

Following the LEGO announcement this morning, Universal Pictures has updated the official site for Jurassic World to include some new information on the film’s brand-new dinosaur, Indominus Rex. The site notes that the new animal’s name means “Fierce or Untamable King” and that’s it’s “currently” 40 feet in length. “We set out to make Indominus the most fearsome dinosaur ever to be displayed at Jurassic World,” reads the description. “The genetic engineers at our Hammond Creation Lab have more than delivered…At first glance, Indominus most closely resembles a T. Rex. But its distinctive head ornamentation and ultra-tough bony osteoderms can be traced from Theropods known as Abeliosaurs. Indominus’ horns have been placed above the eye orbit through genetic material hybridized from Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops and Giganotosaurus. Fearsome indeed…..Indominus’ roar is estimated to reach 140-160db—the same as a 747 taking off and landing. And it can reach speeds of 30 MPH while confined to its enclosure. Come experience Indominus Rex for yourself beginning this summer. If you dare.” You can check the teaser picture of the dinosaur below! Jurassic World, which hits 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters on June 12, 2015, stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, BD Wong, Omar Sy, Judy Greer, Katie McGrath, Lauren Lapkus and Andy Buckley. Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters, Jurassic World offers a terrifying sci-fi adventure set 22 years after the events of Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 Michael Crichton adaption.

Holy crap this is a pretty frightening image! Granted it doesn't show much, but it's still a great tease for the fans. I'm actually really glad to see a hybrid dinosaur as it will bring something new to the franchise and it really shows that the engineers in the film aren't that smart. I was already excited for the film and this image just raises my anticipation for the film even higher.

Although we’ve only seen Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel when it comes to confirmed chapters in DC Comics’ currently-brewing cinematic universe, plans for the future are looking quite ambitious. Next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will feature the big screen introduction of quite a few familiar comic book superheroes, including Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, Cyborg, played by Ray Fisher, and Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa. The latter of those three today spoke with The Daily Beast about his excitement for what’s to come and about his pride in helping bring about superhero diversity. “Aquaman is especially cool,” says the former “Game of Thrones” star, “because, being a Kanaka Maoli—being Hawaiian—our Gods are Kanaloa and Maui, and the Earth is 71 percent water, so I get to represent that. And I’m someone who gets to represent all the islanders, not some blond-haired superhero. It’s cool that there’s a brown-skinned superhero.” Momoa is also particularly excited to bring Aquaman back for both his already-announced solo film and the hugely-anticipated two-part Justice League. “It’s awesome as an actor to know what your future is going to be,” Momoa continues, “because I have children and I’ve busted my ass to put food on the table. It’s awesome knowing that I’m going to be in ‘Justice League’ because my son is the biggest Batman fan and my daughter loves Wonder Woman. It’ll be cool for them to see me in something, because they’re not going to be watching ‘Game of Thrones’ or ‘Red Road’ anytime soon, but now they can see Daddy kicking ass in IMAX.” Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is slated to hit theaters on March 25, 2016. Justice League: Part One is then set to follow on November 10, 2017 with the solo Aquaman hitting July 27, 2018 before Justice League: Part Two arrives on June 14, 2019.

I really like these comments. It's always nice to see when an actor it passionate about a role and a film and that's exactly what this character needs. Jason Momoa was the perfect choice to make Aquaman a believable and serious superhero and I think he'll do an amazing job with the character. The only thing I hate is that we have to wait til 2018 to see the Aquaman solo film.

Although Michael C. Hall was said to be joining the cast ofWalt Disney Pictures’ upcoming remake of Pete’s Dragon earlier this month, TheWrap is now reporting that the “Dexter” star is no longer attached and that the role in question will now go to Karl Urban. The Star Trek and Dredd star joins Academy Award winner Robert Redford (All is Lost, Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Jurassic World), Oakes Fegley (This is Where I Leave You), Oona Laurence (“Penny Dreadful”) and Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games, Interstellar) for the David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) film. The original Pete’s Dragon, a hybrid of live action and animation, was released in 1977 and followed the adventures of Pete (Fegley), a young orphan boy with an imaginary friend, Elliot, who just happens to be an enormous animated dragon. The new version will offer the dragon via CGI and will have the Pete character joined by a human friend, Natalie (Laurence). Urban can be seen in theaters starting tomorrow in The Loft, starring opposite Rachael Taylor who, herself, made headlines today as the latest addition to the cast of the new Netflix series “Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.” He’s also set to return as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in next summer’s Justin Lin-helmed Star Trek sequel. Lowery has also co-written the screenplay for Pete’s Dragon with Toby Halbrooks and is set to begin production shortly in New Zealand. Jim Whitaker (American Gangster, The Odd Life of Timothy Green) is attached to produce.

This is great casting. I was really excited to see Michael C. Hall in this film, but if you're going to replace him then choosing Karl Urban is a great choice. As I've said before this an awesome cast for a "kids" film and I'm really curious to see how it plays out.

Following an Oscar win for his performance in Jean-Marc Vallée’s Dallas Buyers Club in 2013, Matthew McConaughey has been awfully busy, starring in the first season of HBO’s hit series “True Detective” and headlining Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Now, Deadline reports that the star has signed on for Born to Run, an adaptation of Christopher McDougall’s 2009 bestseller, described on the author’s official site as follows: Born to Run is an epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt? In search of an answer, Christopher McDougall sets off to find a tribe of the world’s greatest distance runners and learn their secrets, and in the process shows us that everything we thought we knew about running is wrong. Isolated by the most savage terrain in North America, the reclusive Tarahumara Indians of Mexico’s deadly Copper Canyons are custodians of a lost art. For centuries they have practiced techniques that allow them to run hundreds of miles without rest and chase down anything from a deer to an Olympic marathoner while enjoying every mile of it. Their superhuman talent is matched by uncanny health and serenity, leaving the Tarahumara immune to the diseases and strife that plague modern existence. With the help of Caballo Blanco, a mysterious loner who lives among the tribe, the author was able not only to uncover the secrets of the Tarahumara but also to find his own inner ultra-athlete, as he trained for the challenge of a lifetime: a fifty-mile race through the heart of Tarahumara country pitting the tribe against an odd band of Americans, including a star ultramarathoner, a beautiful young surfer, and a barefoot wonder. The film version is set to feature an adapted screenplay by World War Z scribe Matthew Michael Carnahan and is currently in development from Di Bonaventura Pictures, LD Entertainment and Outlaw Productions. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mickey Liddell, Deb Newmyer are attached to produce.

This is excellent casting. McConaughey is a Academy Award winning actor and from a lot of the paparazzi pictures he is an active runner so the film fits him perfectly. The film and story itself sounds really interesting and I'm really anxious to see how it plays out. Who knows this could get McConaughey another Oscar.
