11-5-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Channing Tatum is, according to Deadline, targeting a role in writer/director Quentin Tarantino's soon-to-shoot The Hateful Eight. If he officially signs on, Tatum will join Jennifer Jason Leigh, Zoe Bell, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, Dana Gourrier, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen, Denis Menochet, James Parks, James Remar, Tim Roth and Kurt Russell in the 2015 release. Set in snowy Wyoming a few years after the Civil War, the film focuses on the tension among a group of people trapped after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route. The group includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier and a female prisoner (Leigh) in a saloon. Preproduction is already underway in Chicago on The Hateful Eight with plans to begin shooting December 8 before taking a holiday break and resuming production in 2015.

If this is true then it is great casting. Channing Tatum has done a complete 180 on his caeer and he is a legitimate actor. I think when people finally see him Foxcatcher they will know that he is for real. Seeing in a Tarantino film aslo gets me excited because I'm a fan of Tarantino and what he has done with people's careers.

After clearly having a ball on 2010's action comedy The Other Guys, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg will reunite for Paramount's Daddy's Home, which is expected to begin shooting later this year. Daddy's Home follows a mild-mannered radio executive (Ferrell) who strives to become the best stepdad to his wife's two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling and freeloading real father (Wahlberg) arrives, forcing him to compete for the affection of the kids.

Sean Anders (Horrible Bosses 2, That's My Boy) will direct the screenplay written by Brian Burns, with revision by Anders, John Morris and Etan Cohen, along with contributions from Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions associates Chris Henchy and Adam McKay (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, The Campaign). Red Granite Pictures will co-produce and co-finance the film, which Paramount Pictures will distribute worldwide. Morris will produce with Ferrell, Henchy and McKay.

"Will and Mark are the absolute perfect on-screen duo to take on this hilarious project," Adam Goodman, President of Paramount Film Group said. "With Anders at the helm, and our partners Red Granite on-board, we are thrilled this movie is getting underway."

I think that this is a really great idea. It's obvious for The Other Guys that these two loved being on screen togehter and putting them in another film with each other could be real fun as well. I hadn't even heard of this film, but to know that we'll see both Ferrell and Wahlberg on screen together again gets me pretty excited.

Speaking of Mark Wahlberg, following a Red Band trailer for director Rupert Wyatt's The Gambler last month, Paramount Pictures has now released a new trailer which you can watch below! The film, starring Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Michael Kenneth Williams and Jessica Lange, opens in limited release on December 19 before expanding on January 1. In The Gambler, Jim Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) is a risk taker. Both an English professor and a high-stakes gambler, Bennett bets it all when he borrows from a gangster (Michael Kenneth Williams) and offers his own life as collateral. Always one step ahead, Bennett pits his creditor against the operator of a gambling ring (Alvin Ing) and leaves his dysfunctional relationship with his wealthy mother (Academy Award®-winner Jessica Lange) in his wake. He plays both sides, immersing himself in an illicit, underground world while garnering the attention of Frank (John Goodman), a loan shark with a paternal interest in Bennett's future. As his relationship with a student (Brie Larson) deepens, Bennett must take the ultimate risk for a second chance...

This was a pretty good trailer. It looks like it will have a few comedic moments, but it will be very dramatic. The cast for the film is incredible and if this was in a different year then the film might contend for some Oscar's and it still might, but very unlikely.

Jack O'Connell, star of Angelina Jolie's upcoming WWII survival tale Unbroken, is set to headline Terry Gilliam's long-gestating passion project Don Quixote, which Variety reports will begin shooting in the spring for an expected May 2016 release. Although not mentioned in the article, John Hurt is expected to portray Miguel de Cervantes' title hero in some form or another, taking over the role from previously-mooted Robert Duvall. Derbyshire native Hurt told Daily Mail last month of O'Connell's potential casting, saying, "Jack's Derbyshire born and bred, so it will be fun to work with him."

Here is the synopsis for Gilliam's revised vision: A modern and satirical twist on the tale, 'Don Quixote' stars O'Connell as Toby, a jaded commercials director who travels to Spain for a shoot and comes across a gypsy who gives a copy of his student film - a lyrical re-working of the Don Quixote story set in a quaint old Spanish village. Moved by the discovery, Toby sets off on a bizarre road trip to find the little village where the student student film was shot and gets caught up in a series of catastrophes. "Seven is my lucky number so let’s break the curse and make it!," said Gilliam of his seventh attempt to make Don Quixote."We believe this film will capture the essence of everything audiences loved in Gilliam’s unforgettable masterpieces such as 'Brazil,' 'Time Bandits' and 'The Adventures of Baron Munchausen,'" said executive producer Gregoire Melin ("Cosmopolis"), who is handling pre-sales at AFM.

This sounds really interesting. Jack O'Connell looks amazing in Unbroken and he could very well receive and Oscar nomination for  his work. I haven't really seen much from him so Unbroken will tell me a lot, but I'm really curious to see the film and to see him in the role and working with Terry Gilliam will really help him.

Academy Award winner Chris Cooper is set to play J. D. Salinger in the feature film Coming Through The Rye, Angel Grace Productions today announced. Written by Emmy Award winner Jim Sadwith (marking his feature directing debut), Coming Through The Rye is currently in production.
The story offers a coming-of age drama set in 1969 involving two teenagers, Alex Wolff (Hair Brained, A Birder's Guide to Everything) and Stefania Owen (The Carrie Diaries, The Lovely Bones) as they search for J. D. Salinger. Based on Sadwith's own quest to find Salinger and his encounters with the reclusive author, the story is about a sensitive boy, a quirky girl and the road they travel to find not only Salinger but also friendship and the truth about themselves. Producers are Stan Erdreich, Teddy Grennan and Jim Sadwith. Angel Grace Productions is giving international buyers a first look at the project at this week’s American Film Market, prior to officially launching international sales for the film at Berlin’s EFM in February.

This is great casting. Like the article states Chris cooper is an Academy Award winning actor and he has proven himself to be an A-list talent. The film also sounds really interesting and I'm actually now looking forward to the film.
