11-3-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Two weeks after he was confirmed for the role, Christian Bale has dropped out of director Danny Boyle's upcoming biopic of Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bale simply felt that he was not the right actor for the role. Based on Walter Isaacson's biography and boasting an adapted screenplay by Aaron Sorkin, the Jobs biopic recently revealed that Seth Rogen is in talks to play Steve Wozniak, although it is now uncertain what direction the film will take in Bale's absence.Bale was initially courted for the part back when David Fincher was attached to helm, and made himself available recently after Leonardo DiCaprio passed on the role in order to film The Revenant and to take some time off from acting.

I'm really shocked to hear this news. Bale (in my opinion) was the perfect choice to play Steve Jobs. I'm really curious to find out why he left the project and it'll also be interesting to see who will replace him and hopefully Bale's departure doesn't hurt the film.

Just over a week after the first trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron debuted to the world, an interesting new tidbit has surfaced as Thor star Idris Elba says he will appear as Heimdall alongside Tom Hiddleston as Loki in next year’s sequel. "I'm in Avengers," Elba revealed to The Telegraph. "And I'm doing a scene with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, and they're like, [whispers] - 'Aren't you [meant to be] in Ibiza?'" Elba took on a DJ in residence role at Ibiza Rocks off the coast of Spain during the summer, putting the time of his stint on the set of "Age of Ultron" near the end of filming as production wrapped up on the sequel back in early August.

In the May 2015 release, when Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Avengers: Age of Ultron also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, James Spader, Cobie Smulders, Thomas Kretschmann, Paul Bettany and Stellan Skarsgard.

This is really interesting. I say that because Joss Whedon has publicly stated that Loki would not be in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now things may have changed or Idris Elba let a little information that he wasn't suppose to talk about. If this is true then myslef and a few others have speculated that they'll both be part of a flashback scene or in a vision that Scarlett Witch shows Thor. All I know is that this has really peaked my interest and I cannot wait to see the film.

Back in August, Latino Review reported a rumor that none other than Peggy Carter (Haley Atwell) would make an appearance in Ant-Man along with a few other Marvel Cinematic Universe favs, and now a casting ad placed in the film's shooting location of Atlanta has confirmed as much. The post from Project Casting reads as follows:Casting directors are looking for an actor to work as a stand-in for the actor Haley Atwell. Haley Attwell is 31, 5’7 and 112 pounds. She is best known for her work in stage productions such as A View from the Bridge, and in films such as Cassandra’s Dream, The Duchess, The Pillars of the Earth, and Captain America: The First Avenger. In addition, casting directors are looking for a body double that meets certain requirements.

The original rumor stated that Michael Douglas' Hank Pym will have a prologue flashback meeting at S.H.I.E.L.D. with founding members Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, Armin Zola and a young Alexander Pierce, who was portrayed by Robert Redford in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The scene in question involving MCU characters was purportedly a sticking point that led to the departure of original director Edgar Wright from Ant-Man back in May. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Also starring Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Gregg Turkington and T.I., the Peyton Reed-directed film hits theaters on July 17, 2015.

This isn't really that surprising. It makes sense for Peggy Carter to be in a flashback scene involved with Hank Pym simply becuase we're going to see how Ant-Man became who he is and how the Ant-Man technology came to be plus we may even see the back-story of the Ultron program was shut down before Tony Stark revitalizes it in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. All I know is that I'm really anxious to see Ant-Man after everything it has been through.

Sony Pictures has unveiled our first good look at Chappie, the title robot in the upcoming sci-fi film from Neil Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium), starring Sharlto Copley in a performance capture role. You can check out the poster below and stay tuned for the trailer tomorrow. After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot. Written by Blomkamp and his wife Terri Tatchell, the March 6, 2015 release is produced by Simon Kinberg and stars Sharlto Copley, Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Sigourney Weaver, Ninja, Yolandi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo, and Brandon Auret.

I really like the poster, It shows us who Chappie is and what he looks like. The synopsis sounds amazing and I really looking forward to seeing if Neil Blomkamp can redeem himself after the disaster known as Elysium and try not to repeat the same plot as his past two films.

Before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 officially hit theaters, it was revealed that actress Felicity Jones had joined the cast "in an unspecified role," which she seemed to indicate later put her on "the dark side." Upon the film's release, we finally learned her character's name was "Felicia," leading us all to believe she would take on the role of Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, as the franchise progressed. Speaking with GQ, Jones was asked about playing the part in the series as it progressed to which she replied: "Being vacuum-packed into a leather suit, doing backflips?! I'd love that. Can you start a petition for me?" Lisa Joy Nolan ("Burn Notice") is currently scripting the female-led film, which is targeting a 2017 release.

These comments are really interesting. Now in like it says in the article she was revealed to be Felicia and it was revealed in the viral marketing campaign that Harry's assistant's (which is who Felicity Jones's character is) name was Felicia Hardy, so with that information it would lead to me believe that she is Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat. But when Jones says that she would love to that and asks for a possibly petition it may be possible that she isn't Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat or that Sony has no clue what they are doing with her. All I know is that Sony has a lot to think about especially when it comes to there Spider-Man film franchise.
