My Review of The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

So I recently watched The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and I'm here to bring you review. So without further ado...

Now that The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is full up with its long-term residents, co-managers Muriel Donnelly (played by Maggie Smith) and Sonny Kapoor (played by Dev Patel) have a dream of expansion, and they've found just the place: The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. With plans underway, Evelyn and Douglas (played by Judi Dench and Bill Nighy) venture into the Jaipur workforce, wondering where their regular breakfast dates will lead. Meanwhile, Norman and Carol (played by Ronald Pickup and Diana Hardcastle) navigate the swirling waters of an exclusive relationship, as Madge (played by Celia Imrie) juggles two very eligible suitors, and recent arrival Guy Chambers (Richard Gere) finds a muse in Sonny's mother, Mrs. Kapoor (played by Lillete Dubey) for his next novel. As his marriage to Sunaina (played by Tina Desai), the love of his life, quickly approaches, Sonny finds his plans for the new hotel making more claims on his time than he has available. Perhaps the only one who may know the answers is Muriel, the keeper of everyone's secrets. As the big day nears, family and guests alike find themselves swept up in the irresistible intoxication of an Indian wedding.

This was actually a pretty fun film to watch. Now granted I haven't seen the first film so I was going in with a blind eye and I was really entertained with the film. The cast in the film that was assembled for this film is just fantastic and it is full of Academy Award winners, nominees and some of the greatest actors of all-time. It has a feel good story and it packs a lot of emotional punches with a lot of great humor that will bust your gut. Director John Madden (who also directed the first film and Shakespeare in Love) does an outstanding job of getting great performances out of all of the actors in the film. I will say that the film does get a little out of hand with the jokes and and a lot of things don't make a lot of sense plus it gets a little too predictable. Overall this is great ensemble film that I think older folks will enjoy, but be prepared for the predictability factor. I give The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel a 6.5 out of 10.
