Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...
(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)
Variety reports that “Luther” and Thor star Idris Elba is in early talks for the lead villain role in the upcoming Star Trek 3, though details on who the character might be are being kept under wraps. The film features the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. J.J. Abrams, who directed the last two films, is producing the third film in the rebooted franchise. Justin Lin is set to direct from a script by Doug Jung and Simon Pegg. Paramount Pictures has Star Trek 3 scheduled for a July 8, 2016 release, which coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the “Star Trek” franchise. Elba can next be seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which he personally confirmed he has a part in, as well as Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation on Netflix later this year and as the voice of Shere Khan in Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book on April 15, 2016.
If this is true then this is fantastic casting. Idris Elba is one of the best actors on the planet and anything he is in is something I want to watch. He hasn't been the villain much throughout his career so it'll be great to see him in a different type of role. The people at Paramount have stepped up the villain game when it comes Star Trek going from Eric Bana to Benedict Cumberbatch to possibly Idris Elba and I think Elba could be amazing in this film. Hopefully this is one of the many rumors that comes true.
With just one year to go before the release of the film, Warner Bros. Pictures (via EW) has released our first look at Jesse Eisenberg as the villain Lex Luthor from the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which you can check out below. “He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure,” director Zack Snyder tells the magazine. “Other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course….Our Lex is disarming and he’s not fake. He says what he believes and he says what’s on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it’s all there.” Eisenberg is part of a cast that includes Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight with Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel. Amy Adams, Gal Gadot (as Wonder Woman), Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Jena Malone, Holly Hunter and Scoot McNairy also star in the Zack Snyder-directed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, hitting theaters on March 25, 2016.

This is a great picture. First off I just want to say that it's crazy that we are now one year away from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. As for the photo it finally confirms what we've all wanted to know and that'd that Eisenberg's Lex Luthor will be bald. I've been behind this casting since it was first announced and Eisenberg has already had a lot of practice at a role like this when he played Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. I'm excited for the film and I can't wait to see what Eisenberg brings to the film.
Following the new poster that debuted yesterday, an international banner for Josh Trank’s upcoming Fantastic Four has made its way online (thanks to SuperHeroHype Forums user Charlatan!) and features our first official look at The Thing and you can check it out below. An origin story said to be inspired largely by the “Ultimate Fantastic Four” comics (the first arc of which was written by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar with Joe Kubert illustrating), Fantastic Four offers a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team. The story centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. “Marvel’s First Family” will include Whiplash‘s Miles Teller as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), “House of Cards” star Kate Mara as Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman), Fruitvale Station and Chronicle‘s Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) and The Adventures of Tintin‘s Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm (The Thing). Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ Toby Kebbell will also star as Doctor Doom alongside Reg E. Cathey (“The Wire”) as as Dr. Franklin Storm and Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) as Harvey Elder, aka The Mole Man. Fantastic Four features a screenplay by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and is set to hit the big screen August 7.
This is an awesome poster. First off it's great to actually get a front side view of the characters instead of the usual backside views. Now to the big thing (no pun intended) at hand. I personally love the look of The Thing. He looks a lot more realistic than the version in the 2005 and 2007 films. As I've said it before I'm behind this project 100% and I cannot wait to see how it turns out come August 7th.
X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer took to Instagram today to announce another new addition to the film’s cast in the form of newcomer Lana Condor, who will take on the role of Jubilation Lee, AKA Jubilee. Created by Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri, the character first appeared in “Uncanny X-Men” #244 and for a time was the youngest member of the core team. The character’s mutation allowed her to create and control energy plasmoids akin to fireworks. She previously appeared in the original three “X-Men” films where she was played by Katrina Florence (X-Men) and by Kea Wong (X2 & X-Men: The Last Stand). Condor joins a cast the includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Rose Byrne reprising their roles along with Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan and Kodi Smit-McPhee as young versions of Storm, Jean Grey, Cyclops and Nightcrawler. Evan Peters is also expected to make a return appearance as Quicksilver with Oscar Isaac making his debut as the title villain, Apocalypse. The film is being written by Simon Kinberg from a treatment by Mike Dougherty, Dan Harris and Kinberg. Said to be the conclusion of a trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past, cameras will start rolling on the next adventure in Montreal beginning in April. Once again under the direction of Bryan Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.
This is pretty interesting casting. Now granted were talking about a film in the 80's so it's no surprise we are seeing really young actors take over big roles in the franchise. Th big surprise for me is nobody knows who this girl is. This is her first film role and I'm a little nervous for her. Bryan Singer must of seen something her to cast her so I trust his judgement.
The project first announced to be in the works almost five years ago (before the novel was even published), Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow have found a director for their planned big screen take on Ernie Cline’s Ready Player One in none other than Steven Spielberg! The three-time Academy Award winner will both direct and produce from an adapted screenplay by Zak Penn. Cline’s book, a New York Times bestseller, has been published in 40 countries and is officially described as follows: In the near future, outcast teenager Wade Watts escapes from his bleak surroundings by logging in to the OASIS, a globally networked virtual utopia where users can lead idyllic alternate lives. When the eccentric billionaire who created the OASIS dies, he offers up his vast fortune as the prize in an elaborate treasure hunt. Along with gamers from around the world, Wade joins the adventure, and quickly finds himself pitted against powerful corporate foes and other ruthless competitors who will do anything, in the oasis or the real world, to reach the treasure first. “We are thrilled to welcome Steven back to Warner Bros,” says Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures. “We had an historic series of collaborations in the 80s and 90s and have wanted to bring him back for years. As for READY PLAYER ONE, we have always felt that Steven was the dream director for this project.” Spielberg’s latest Bridge of Spies, reteams him with leading Tom Hanks and is set to hit theaters this October 16. He’s also just beginning production on the Roald Dahl adaptation The BFG and is expected to begin work on Ready Player One immediately thereafter. Donald De Line, Dan Farah and Kristie Macosko Krieger will also produce with Jesse Ehrman and Racheline Benveniste overseeing for the studio.
This is a great choice. What more do I have to say about Spielberg other than he is possibly the greatest director of all-time. He knows the sci-fi genre like the back of his hand whether it be Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., Jurassic Park, A.I., Minority Report or War of the Worlds so I think he knows what he is doing. I've read the book I think it could be an awesome film and knowing that Spielberg is attached makes this a movie I am looking forward to.
