3-17-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Production continues on the latest James Bond adventure, the 24th in the series, and now EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Sony Pictures Entertainment have released the teaser poster for Spectre which you can check out below. Directed by the Academy Award winning Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty), Spectre stars Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Munich), Ben Wishaw (Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, I’m Not There), Naomie Harris (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, 28 Weeks Later), Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Invisible Woman), Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Inglourious Basterds), Monica Bellucci (Irreversible, Malena), David Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Man with the Iron Fists), Léa Seydoux (Inglourious Basterds, Blue is the Warmest Color), Stephanie Sigman (Miss Bala, Pioneer), Andrew Scott (Locke, “Sherlock”) and Rory Kinnear (Quantum of Solace, The Imitation Game). In the movie, a cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE. SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion), as Bond fans know, is a fictional global terrorist organization featured in Ian Fleming’s novels, as well as the films and video games based on those novels. The organization was led by the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, although the cast is definitely playing it coy about whether or not Blofeld will actually appear in the new film. Spectre, written by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, hits theaters on November 6, 2015.

Spectre Teaser Poster

This is a really great poster. Of course it shows absolutely nothing other than our first look at Daniel Craig in this movie. I'm a huge Bond fan and after the success of Skyfall I'm really looking forward to this film. It has a the perfect cast and Sam Mendes is returning for another Bond film and this is going to be an amazing film.

The road to Deadpool has been long and harrowed, filled with the types of bumps in the road that not even the Merc with a Mouth could solve, but his very own movie is set for release next year and will begin production very soon. Speaking with Short List, Ryan Reynolds was asked if he felt relieved that the film was finally coming out. “I’m incredibly happy about it – we’ve got a director that understands that world, and writers with a slavish devotion to the canon of that character. That’s the most important aspect: it’s made in a way the most critical of fanboys could embrace. Well, that’s the hope.” Reynolds also provided a tease on his Twitter account for a heavily-armed photoshoot as the title character. Curiously, the best thing about a #Deadpool photoshoot, is singing Dolly Parton songs full blast while heavily, HEAVILY armed. Unexpected. — Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) March 14, 2015 Reynolds leads a cast that includes T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein, Gina Carano, and Morena Baccarin. The film will also feature the mutant Colossus, though Daniel Cudmore has confirmed he will not appear as the character. Tim Miller is set to direct the movie from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool is currently scheduled for a release on February 12, 2016.

I really love these comments. I'm glad to hear that they have a writer and director that understand the character and his entire backstory. I think the test footage that was "leaked" got a lot of people excited including the hardcore fanboys. I'm glad Deadpool is getting his own film and I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Sony Pictures has unleashed the first trailer for ’80s arcade comedy action film Pixels, which you can watch below! The film, which stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage and Brian Cox, hits theaters on July 24. In Pixels, intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them and attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Monaghan plays the team’s unique weapons specialist. The action-comedy is directed by Chris Columbus from a story by Tim Herlihy and a screenplay by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling, based on the original short film of the same name by Patrick Jean. The film is produced by Adam Sandler, Chris Columbus, Mark Radcliffe, and Allen Covert. Executive Producers are Barry Bernardi, Michael Barnathan, Jack Giarraputo, Heather Parry, Tim Herlihy, Steve Koren, Patrick Jean, Benjamin Darras, Johnny Alves, Matias Boucard, Seth Gordon, and Ben Waisbren.

This was actually a really cool trailer. As I've said before the film has worried me simply because of Adam Sandler, but this film might get him back on the map. It's great to see Peter Dinklage in the film and I think he is perfect for the movie. It has an interesting concept and I just hope they can pull it off.

Following the teaser yesterday, Focus Features has released the full Insidious Chapter 3 trailer from writer/director Leigh Whannell which you can check out in the player below. Insidious Chapter 3 stars Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott alongside Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Whannell, with the latter trio reprising their roles from the first two movies in the franchise. This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. Jason Blum of Blumhouse, who produced both previous movies in the series, is producing the next installment with returning producer Oren Peli and franchise co-creator James Wan, who directed the two earlier films written by Whannell with story by Wan and Whannell. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Steven Schneider, Charles Layton, and Xavier Marchand executive-produce. The film opens in theaters on June 5.

This was actually not that bad. I honestly hate jump-scares and it looks like the film will rely heavily on them. Now granted I really liked the first two films and I hope this one can be just as good. I also officially hate the song Tiptoe Through the Tulips (originally by Tiny Tim) after hearing it in this trailer.

Following the new trailer last week, New Line Cinema and Village Roadshow Pictures have debuted the new poster for action-thriller San Andreas, opening in 3D and 2D theaters on Friday, May 29. San Andreas reunites Dwayne Johnson with director Brad Peyton and producer Beau Flynn, following their collaboration on the global hit Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. After the infamous San Andreas Fault finally gives, triggering a magnitude 9 earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot (Johnson) and his estranged wife make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter. But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning, and when they think the worst may be over…it’s just getting started. Directed by Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), San Andreas also stars Carla Gugino (“Night at the Museum” films, “Entourage”), Alexandra Daddario (“Percy Jackson” films, “True Detective”), Ioan Gruffudd (“Fantastic Four” films), Archie Panjabi (“The Good Wife), Hugo Johnstone-Burt (“Home and Away”), Art Parkinson (“Game of Thrones”) and Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man). It will be released in theaters on May 29. The May 29 release is produced by Beau Flynn (Hercules, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island). Richard Brener, Samuel J. Brown, Michael Disco, Rob Cowan, Tripp Vinson and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Carlton Cuse, story by Andre Fabrizio & Jeremy Passmore.

San Andreas

I honestly think this is my favorite poster that has been released for the film so far. It shows how much devastation that this film will have in it on a massive scale. I'm looking forward to seeing it, but my one big worry is that it will end up being another Volcano or 2012.
