3-5-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Marvel Studios has released the brand-new trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron which you can watch in the player below. Avengers: Age of Ultron is the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique globaladventure. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963. Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Patricia Whitcher, Stan Lee and Jon Favreau serve as executive producers. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.

This was an awesome trailer. I have loved every single trailer that has been released for the film and they have just heightened my excitement for the film. I know a lot of people we're complaining that there wasn't enough humor and my argument is that this film doesn't need any humor for it to be amazing. There was humor in this trailer and it was great, but very unnecessary. I loved the trailer and I cannot wait to see this film.

Teased for some time, Walt Disney Pictures officially announced late last year that Toy Story 4 is on the way. Today, Pixar Animation Studios President Jim Morris has a bit of an update, speaking with Disney Latino (via /Film) about the highly anticipated sequel. There’s just one caveat: Morris’ comments have been translated from Spanish and, as such, may have found their meaning somewhat altered. According to him, however, it seems that Toy Story 4 is planned as a very different film from the first three Toy Story movies. “The third movie ended in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy,” says Morris. “I think this movie is not part of this trilogy. It is a separate story… It is not a continuation of the end of the story of ‘Toy Story 3′. Temporarily it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not put much focus on the interaction between the characters and children.”

Whatever the idea for Toy Story 4 is, it sounds like its aiming to be something original. “‘Toy Story 3′ ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another ‘Toy Story’ movie,” said John Lasseter on the project’s original announcement. “But when Andrew, Pete, Lee, and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie — and I wanted to direct it myself.”” The script for Toy Story 4 will be provided by actors-turned-screenwriters Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, who previously penned and starred in Celeste and Jesse Forever. They’re working from a story idea by Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, and Lee Unkrich! Pixar’s Galyn Susman will produce. Although officially unconfirmed at this time, it’s just about a certainty that Toy Story 4 will feature the return of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack and the rest of the hit franchise’s diverse voice talent.

I'm not happy to hear this news. Look I've against a Toy Story 4 from the very moment it was announced simply because Toy Story 3 was an amazing film and it ended on such a perfect note that the franchise doesn't need a 4th film. It also doesn't make any sense why it shouldn't be a continuation of the original story. I think the only way I can actually get behind it is if the story leads back to Andy and his child getting the toys back and playing with them.

Walt Disney Pictures’ upcoming live-action take on Beauty and the Beast has today announced its Gaston! Variety reports that Luke Evans will play the testosterone-driven braggart opposite Emma Watson’s Belle. Seeing as no one shoots like Gaston, the addition of Evans is quite appropriate. He very recently took care of Laketown’s dragon problem in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, so the Beast himself may be in for a challenge. Set to be directed by Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) and produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, Beauty and the Beast marks the latest in a string of live-action retellings of classic Disney animated classics. In addition to the recently-released Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent, the studio will release their Kenneth Branagh-helmed take on Cinderella later this month and has a Jon Favreau-helmed version of The Jungle Book on the way April 15, 2016. Watson herself had been previously attached to another version of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont’s fairy tale at Warner Bros. That project stalled after director Guillermo del Toro dropped out last summer. Apparently Del Toro gave Watson his blessing to move on to Disney’s version, no doubt sweetened by the fact that the script was written by Stephen Chbosky, who directed Watson in The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

This is great casting. Luke Evans is such a talented actor and he hasn't had a chance to really prove himself and this could be the film that makes him a star. I think he fits the role perfectly and his English accent will work very well with the character. I'm excited with the cast of this film and the director and I cannot wait to see the film.

For decades, DC and Marvel Comics have maintained a good-natured rivalry with the latter often referring to the former as “The Distinguished Competition.” Although discussions among fans don’t always maintain quite the same level of decorum, the “DC vs Marvel” debate is one that’s probably not going to be settled anytime soon. That isn’t stopping Warner Bros. chairman-CEO Kevin Tsujihara, however, from throwing some gasoline on the fire. “The worlds of DC are very different,” Tsujihara said today at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference (per Variety). “They’re steeped in realism, and they’re a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies.” The differences between the two studios’ approaches, however, is exactly the reason Tsujihara doesn’t think that audiences will be suffering from superhero fatigue anytime soon. “The key thing,” he says, “Is that the movies and the television shows and the games, everything looks very different… you have to be able to take advantage of the diversity of these characters.” Unlike Marvel’s approach, Warner Bros. has been experimenting with multiple live-action adaptations of key properties. “Gotham” can exist on FOX in a world separate from the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice while Grant Gustin can play a small screen Flash with Ezra Miller stepping into the role within the company’s big screen universe. “The big franchises are becoming more and more valuable,” Tsujihara continues. “You don’t have to explain to the consumer what a ‘Batman v Superman’ is.”

I absolutely love these comments. Look I love both Marvel and DC and I will agree that they are completely different when it comes to tone and style. They both provide a nice balance to the fans and that's why comic book movies won't go away for a very long time. I think both studios work well off of each other and I think that both benefit if one studios film is amazing.

Though everyone has theirs eyes firmly set on the upcoming Deadpool spin-off and X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, a third Wolverine movie is still in development at 20th Century Fox and it set to arrive the following year. Details are slim on the upcoming sequel, but when asked on Twitter when production would begin on the film, James Mangold revealed they’re planning to shoot “early next year.” Writer David James Kelly is currently penning the screenplay for the film, which according to Patrick Stewart could see Logan and Professor Xavier teaming up. Despite Hugh Jackman’s previous doubts that he would play the character of Wolverine much longer, the actor recently revealed that he wants to continue playing the character until he dies. Currently without an official title, Wolverine 3 is currently set for a release March 3, 2017 with Mangold set to direct once again.

This is great news to hear. After witnessing the garbage that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we finally got the real Wolverine movie appropriately titled The Wolverine back in 2013 and it got me really excited to see both the seqeul and X-Men: Days of Future Past. I'm excited for this film and I'm glad to know that Jackman is coming back and I'm really curious to see how this film plays out.
