My Review of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice

So I recently watched  Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

The two titular heroes, Batman and Superman, are confronting each other, with the film's logo behind them, and the film's title, credits, release date and billing below.

It's been nearly two years since Superman's (played by Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (played by Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (played by Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (played by Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.

This was a really disappointing film. When the film was first announced, there was instant hype mainly due to the fact that for the first time ever, we were going to get Batman and Superman on screen together. It's a comic book fan's dream to have this happen and just hoping that the film doesn't disappoint and sadly it did. This film had the potential to be something fabulous that we would talk about for years to come and it's just not going to be that film. The films plot is relatively simple and doesn't seem hard to execute and it just turned out to be a total mess. One thing that doesn't help the plot is the choppy editing and what I mean is that it would bounce from plot point to plot point without any continuity and it just didn't make sense. An example is that we get a shot of Bruce Wayne at his looking outside, then it cuts to Lois Lane talking to people in Washington D.C. and it tries to add to a plot line introduced earlier in the film and then it goes back to Bruce Wayne at his house in the same room he was in before only this time he is joined by Alfred. That's just one of the many cases where nothing about the film is consistent. It also does really provide any motivation for anything each character does in the film other than Batman which is beautifully set-up in the first 10 minutes of the film and it does a great job of connecting both this film and Man of Steel. But other than that you don't really know what each character is fighting for and why they are fighting for it.

While the film is disappointing, there are quite a few bright spots and one those is Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. 3 years ago when he was announced as Batman, there was a massive outcry and before they even saw him as The Caped Crusader, people claimed that he was the worst Batman of all-time. In this film he proved all of the critics wrong by being the best Batman to ever grace the big screen. He was the perfect choice at the perfect time and he will only get better and cement his legacy even further. The other bright spot was the visual effects and that's what Zack Snyder is best at and just look at his previous films and they all have that same dark style that shows that it isn't your ordinary superhero film. What may be the biggest bright spot is the way the Justice League was introduced. There are little hints throughout the film that show there is a bigger universe at large and it's pretty exciting for what is to come for the DCCU. The only problem with the various introductions is who was the one that found out about the rest and it should've been someone else in the film. Jesse Eisenberg along with Ben Affleck were controversial casting decisions and while one paid off, the other didn't and you just don't buy into Eisenberg as Luthor and while there are some bright spots of how dark the character can be, there were a few moments that just went too far and he became too crazy. The film added a bunch of scenes towards the end that weren't necessary and it just made the film go longer than it should've. There were also some parts that were boring and they take you of the film too often. Basically this film is a more boring version of the classic graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns. Overall this film was a big disappointment and the fact this is the film we got after so much anticipation is a massive let down,. I give Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice a 7 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
