3-15-16 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm Indiana Jones 5 with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce. “Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.” Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office. The July 19 release date puts the film in the wake of Marvel’s Inhumans, which is scheduled for a July 12 release, although that may change since Walt Disney Pictures is distributing both films. It also places the movie in the same year as Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Episode IX, which will make it the first time a film in both the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises have been released the same year.

This isn't surprising news, but it's also not unexpected news. Disney has said recently that a new Indiana Jones film was not in their immediate future, but according to the release date this film is coming out in 3 years. After Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a pretty big failure for fans, I like that Disney is keeping the crew together in Spielberg and Ford, but without the screenwriting of George Lucas. If they are smart, I think it would be neat to go with Frank Darabont to write the script and he is the one who initially wrote the script for Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and it was one that Spielberg loved, but George Lucas hated it sense it wasn't him writing the script. He's worked with Spielberg before and it would be a great choice for Disney to make. I'm a fan of the franchise and I'm excited to see how the film will come together and hopefully it could redeem the last film and the franchise.

Earlier this year, a partial list of candidates for the role of Young Han Solo in Lucasfilm‘s upcoming spin-off film was revealed, and now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the list has been cut down with a lightsaber. The Young Han Solo actor shortlist includes Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service). Also, Variety‘s Justin Kroll took to Twitter to reveal that Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some) and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) are also among the final contenders. These final five are down from a long list of actors originally looked at for the role, as Disney and Lucasfilm started a worldwide casting call with THR reporting more than 2,500 actors either met with the studio or put themselves on tape for the role. Check back here for further information on the Young Han Solo actor casting as we learn it! The LEGO Movie helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller will direct the “Star Wars story” which features a screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan and is set to debut in theaters on May 25, 2018. The film will focus on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed last week that the film will also feature Chewbacca alongside Solo. A previous reported suggested that casting for the film is already underway as the character might make an appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, set to debut later this year on December 16.

I really like this list of actors. I've said before that I'm excited for the film and whoever they choose is going to have big shoes to fill. I've wanted either Logan Lerman or Scott Eastwood, but according to this it doesn't look as if they are in the running. But one thing that has really got me thinking from the people I've been talking to, they seem to think that Disney has already made the choice and that they are just hiding the announcement and waiting for the right moment which I've said will be at Star Wars Celebration this year. Also speaking with those people, I've heard that they believe Taron Egerton is the frontrunner. I think he'd be a great choice and I'm really anxious to see who is chosen for this iconic role.

Sony Pictures Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures’ Sausage Party, the first R-rated CG animated comedy from writers Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir, debuted as a work-in-progress cut on Monday at SXSW. You can now watch the Sausage Party trailer below! Sausage Party is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store. The film features the vocal talents of a who’s who of today’s comedy stars – Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek. Last year actor David Krumholtz, who plays the Armenian Flatbread character seen above on the right, told us his lofty predictions for Sausage Party. “It might be the funniest movie of all-time,” said Krumholtz. “It was the funniest script I’ve ever read, and the stuff I’ve seen is just absolutely brilliant. I can’t wait for people to see it, and it’s R-rated but man, I’ll tell ya, it’s a loose NC-17. It’s pretty out there.” From a story by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jonah Hill, Sausage Party is directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan. Sausage Party is produced by Rogen, Goldberg, Vernon and Megan Ellison with Hill, Hunter, Shaffir and James Weaver executive producing. Nitrogen Studios Canada Inc., in Vancouver is handling all CG animation, design, production and post-production.

I absolutely loved this trailer. When I first heard about the concept of the film, I was a little unsure of how it would work and this trailer just gave us a great glimpse. The film is going to be raunchy and downright hilarious. I love the cast that's been assembled for the film and I'm really looking forward to see what they bring to each character they voice. There is a point in the trailer that I'm not going to spoil because it is so funny, but watching it I was in tears from laughing so much and so hard. I think this might be one most anticipated animated films I have ever looked forward to and August can't get here quicker.

Sony Pictures has released the Money Monster poster, which you can view in the gallery below. The Jodie Foster-directed film stars George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell, Dominic West, Caitriona Balfe and Giancarlo Esposito. In the real-time, high stakes thriller, George Clooney and Julia Roberts star as financial TV host Lee Gates and his producer Patty, who are put in an explosive situation when an irate investor who has lost everything (Jack O’Connell) forcefully takes over their studio. During a tense standoff broadcast to millions on live TV, Lee and Patty must work furiously against the clock to unravel the mystery behind a conspiracy at the heart of today’s fast-paced, high-tech global markets. Daniel Dubiecki, who worked with Clooney on Up in the Air, and Lara Alameddine developed the script alongside Foster. Dubiecki and Alameddine’s The Allegiance Theater are producing together with Clooney and his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov. Alan DiFore and Jim Kouf wrote the original draft of the script. Sony’s TriStar Pictures will release Money Monster in theaters on May 13, 2016.

Money Monster

I really like this poster. It really fits the style of the film and I think it's a really great design. When the first trailer came out about a month ago, I didn't really like upon first viewing because I thought it showed way too much of the film and upon repeat viewings of the trailer, I still have that same opinion. I think this film could be fantastic mainly due to the cast and Jodie Foster directing. I don't like the release date because this could be a potential Oscar film and I just don't think that releasing at the beginning of the Summer movie season is the greatest idea.

Cannonball Run is returning to the big screen as Deadline reports that Warner Bros. Pictures has secured the franchise rights and is in the midst of developing a new big screen take, simply titled Cannonball. They’ve set Get Hard director Etan Cohen to helm with Andre Morgan and Alan Gasmer attached to produce. According to the outlet, the studio is semantically calling the new film a “relaunch” rather than a “remake”. The Cannonball Run, released in 1981, was directed by Hal Needham from a screenplay by Brock Yates. Starring the ensemble cast of Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Adrienne Barbeau, Dean Martin, Jackie Chan, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dom DeLuise, The Cannonball Run follows the contestants of a massive illegal cross country race that stretches from Connecticut to California. The original film received a sequel, Cannonball Run II, in 1984, also helmed by Needham. Reynolds was approached to reprise his franchise role for a third film, to be titled Cannonball Fever, but he ultimately turned it down. Instead, Jim Drake helmed a 1986 sequel/spinoff retitled Speed Zone. Speed Zone featured an almost entirely new cast made up primarily of SCTV actors. Jamie Farr’s Sheik Abdul ben Falafel is the only character to appear in all three Cannonball Run films. Get Hard, which stars Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell, was released last year and marked the directorial debut of Etan Cohen, whose credits as a screenwriter include Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder and Barry Sonnenfeld’s Men in Black III.

I love this idea on so many different levels. The first film is one that I'm that big of a fan of mainly due to the fact that it's just not that good or funny as the second film which I think is absolutely hilarious. I'm gonna take a gander and say that a lot of you have never seen either film which I encourage you check out the second one more than the first one. I love that a new generation is going to see this film and I couldn't be happier to see some of the actors we have today in these various roles.
