Hello ladies and gentlemen, Since I didn't get to bring you news from yesterday I figured that I would combine today's and yesterday's news (3 stories from each day). So here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the cast for Justice League: Part One has just added another member to its cast with J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon! It’s unclear what role the character will have in the film, but since Ben Affleck’s Batman has been operating for many years in Gotham, it’s to be expected that the two know each other. Simmons is perhaps best known for another comic book role, The Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, but also the hit HBO series OZ, Law & Order, and his Oscar-winning performance in Whiplash. He’s also provided the voice for a few other DC characters in the animated Justice League series as well as Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Commissioner Gordon has been played by a number of different actors over the years, including Neil Hamilton on the Adam West series, Pat Hingle in all four of the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher Batman films, Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” trilogy, and currently by Ben McKenzie on FOX’s Gotham. He joins a cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot as the DC Trinity, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman with Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as The Flash. Amber Heard is set to play Queen Mera in the film as well before moving to the solo Aquaman movie in 2018. Justice League filming will begin in April and take place in London and Iceland. Justice League: Part One will debut in theaters on November 10, 2017.

This might be the most excited I've been for a casting since Ben Affleck was announced to be Batman. J.K. Simmons is a phenomenal actor and it was proven last year when he was awarded an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Whiplash. I think he fits the role well and I'm very curious as to see how similar he'll play this role compared to his take as J. Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man franchise. I was hoping for someone like Bryan Cranston to take the role, but I'm stoked to see what Simmons does with the character. One little concern however comes in the form of a rumor I've been hearing and that's that Commissioner Gordon is actually dead by the time the events of Batman v. Superman play out and Justice League is set after that film so I'm very curious to see if the rumor is true and if it is then I'm very interested to see how they handle the character when he's dead.

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have cast teen sensation Zendaya (“K.C. Undercover,” “Shake It Up,” “Dancing With the Stars”) as a lead character named Michelle in their upcoming Spider-Man reboot!  Meanwhile The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit is saying her casting is part of the studio’s plan to go heavily multi-cultural with the new film, so expect to see more diversity in the announcements to come. Tom Holland will make his debut as the webslinger in Captain America: Civil War where he stars alongside Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. in the May 6, 2016 release. Following that film, Holland will be spinning his own web in an upcoming solo film joined by Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Set to be directed by Jon Watts, the solo Spider-Man movie will be written by Vacation writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. A co-production between Sony and Marvel Studios, Spider-Man will be released in theaters and IMAX on July 7, 2017.

This is interesting casting. Now let be the first one to say that I have never heard of this girl before nor have I ever seen anything she has been in. With that being said she seems like the perfect choice for the character. Now for those that don't know the only Michelle that is associated with Spider-Man is a character named Michele Gonzales who played somewhat of a big part in Peter Parker's life and in fact is a little know love interest of Peter Parker. With that being said I love the idea of going with someone different as the love interest after already trying with Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacey. It shows that they want to be different from the various incarnations of the character and if it fails then they can always fall back onto the previous love interests.

Annabelle Wallis (“Peaky Blinders”) is in talks to join Universal Pictures’ The Mummy, according to both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. Wallis will play an archaeologist in the June 9, 2017 release. She is joining Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), who is playing the title monster in the film. The storyline is expected to be set in modern day with Cruise’s character to be a special forces soldier. The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, who also produces alongside Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious series, Wanted) and Sean Daniel (The Mummy trilogy, The Best Man series). Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the screenplay, and Bobby Cohen executive produces. The original monster was made famous on the big screen by Boris Karloff in Karl Freund’s 1932 feature. Subsequent sequels to the original The Mummy saw Tom Tyler (who played Captain Marvel/Shazam in the original 1941 serials) and later Lon Chaney Jr. playing a different mummy than the one Karloff played. Stephen Sommers’ more recent The Mummy and The Mummy Returns films set Arnold Vosloo in the title role. Jet Li then played the villain in Rob Cohen’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Wallis starred in Annabelle and can be seen coming up in The Brothers Grimsby this week and Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur next year.

Just like the previous story I also think this is interesting casting. I've seen a couple episodes of Perky Blinders and her minor roles in other films and I think she's going to fit well into this film. She's a relatively unknown actress which makes her perfect for the film and to be honest I feel that she'll end up playing the love interest to Tom Cruise's character or possibly someone else, but I'm willing to bet she'll be that type of character. This film has a lot of things going for it and I'm very interested to see how everything plays out because this could jumpstart a whole new cinematic universe which is something I'm really looking forward to and it starts with this film.

Officially announced by Lucasfilm last year, The LEGO Movie helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are gearing up to direct a still-untitled Star Wars Story film that will follow Han Solo. Today, however, there’s an interesting update: Everyone’s favorite Wookiee is also a part of the story. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed Chewbacca’s involvement with the film during Deutsche Bank‘s 24th Annual Media, Internet and Telecom Conference, describing the 2018 release as “an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie.“ Although unconfirmed, it is likely that The Force Awakens‘ Joonas Suotamo will reprise the Chewbacca role for the new film. As to who might be playing Han, they jury is still out. Alleged candidates are said to include Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), Scott Eastwood (The Longest Ride), Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some), Logan Lerman (Fury), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) and Miles Teller (Whiplash). The screenplay for the Han Solo movie is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan and will focus on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley. Slated for a May 25, 2018 release, the Han Solo movie will be executive produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, meanwhile, hits theaters December 16, 2016.

This isn't that surprising news to hear. You can't have a Han Solo film without Chewbacca and it just makes total sense for him to appear. I love the fact that it is going to show their origin story which has always been fascinating to me and if you read the non-cannon novels, Chewbacca was saved by Han and in turn in owed Han a life-debt. Now they can choose to go another route if they please, but I think they might head down that path. Out of all the spin-off films that will be coming out this is the one I most excited for and I just cannot wait until this comes out.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jake Johnson (“The New Girl,” Jurassic World) is in talks to join Universal Pictures’ The Mummy. Johnson will play a military character role written expressly for him in the June 9, 2017 release. He is joining Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible franchise), Annabelle Wallis (“Peaky Blinders”) and Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), who is playing the title monster in the film.

This is another solid casting decision. Jake Johnson was great comedic relief in Jurassic World and he's been really solid in a lot of his roles and I think he is the perfect fit for this film. Now if they follow along with what the previous Mummy films did, he'll probably play Annabelle Wallis's brother or he could possibly be her lover interest with Tom Cruise just being the elder figure in the group. Whoever he is playing I think it's safe to say he is going to be the comedic relief which is perfect because that's what he's best at and you have to have comedy in this film. As I mentioned before this is a solid cast and this film is going to set the table for the future of this cinematic universe.

Saban Films has just brought online The Trust movie trailer, which you can check out in the player below! The film starts Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood as a pair of police officers who start down a criminal path.  Waters and Stone are two nobody police officers working dull administrative jobs and making extra money selling stolen Civil Service Exams to other officers. When Stone hears a story about a heroin dealer quickly beating his extremely high bail, the two friends set into motion a plan to find the origin of such a large amount of cash. Through diligent police work they follow a trail that leads directly to a custom bank-style vault built into the back room freezer of a small grocery store. They put a plan into motion to rob the vault and split whatever they find inside. But by the time they figure out what the vault contains, it’s already too late to turn back. Directed by Alex Brewer and Benjamin Brewer and written by Benjamin Brewer and Adam Hirsch, The Trust movie also stars Sky Ferreira and Jerry Lewis. The film is executive produced by John Jencks, Henry Winterstern, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier, Jeff Rice, Lee Broda, Jason Miller, Charles Auty, Megan Forde, Simon Williams, Ted Cawrey, William V. Bromiley, Ness Saban and Julie Kroll and produced by Brad Schlei, Mike Nilon, Braxton Pope, p.g.a and Molly Hassell. Look for The Trust movie to open April 14 via DIRECTV and May 13 in theaters and VOD.

This was a really great trailer. Nicholas Cage looks crazier than usual and it looks like Elijah Wood is fearing for his life. The trailer had a some really funny moments and some pretty haunting ones when Cage came across in the trailer. I never thought I would say this, but this might be the most anticipated film from Nicholas Cage I've wanted to see. This film seems like it is going to be a cult hit and and very dark comedy and I can't wait to see it.
