5-13-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Following yesterday's teaser image, director Zack Snyder has given us not only a look at the Batmobile, but a first look at Batman (Ben Affleck) in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman which you can check out below Snyder's tweet said: "I shot this with my @Leica_Camera M Monochrom. #Batman #Batmobile #Gotham" Opening in theaters on May 6, 2016, the anticipated film also stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto and Ray Fisher.

This looks awesome! I'm literally happier than a school girl. I love the feel that the batmobile has but more importantly the suit looks great. For those that don't  know the suit is basically taken form Frank Miller's graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns and the film itself is pretty much adapting that book in the sense of the suit, the quote used at ComiCon and Batman and Superman fighting. With all of the eyebrowrasing casting this officially makes me excited for this film. May 6th, 2016 can't get here fast enough.

Following the reveal this morning that Channing Tatum will play the X-Men character Gambit, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that he will in fact debut in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse right before appearing in his own solo spin-off film.

Though no writer or director have been attached to the project, it's possible that "Gambit" could be the "Untitled FOX Marvel Movie" which is currently set for release on July 18, 2018. Check back for more information on the project as we learn it. What do you think of Tatum's casting as Gambit?

Created by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee in 1990, the New Orleans native mutant quickly became a fan favorite due to his kinetic energy manipulation abilities and penchant for stealing. The character's only big screen appearance to date (outside his name being featured as an Easter egg in X2) was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, played by Taylor Kitsch.

I'm really ok with this news. Now I would've really liked to have seen Taylor Kitsch reprise his role but I understand why he isn't returning. Channing Tatum has earned my respect and I can honestly say that I am looking forward to what he brings to the character.

Warner Bros. has set their Harry Potter franchise spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, for release on November 18, 2016. The film, based on J.K. Rowling's world of witches and wizards and inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook of the same name, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will follow the adventures of the book’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander.

The first in a planned trilogy set in the wizarding world, the story will feature magical creatures and characters, some of which will be familiar to devoted Harry Potter fans. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry's gets underway.

The only reason I'm excited for this is because I loved Harry Potter. I really don't want or need more from the wizarding world. But I will be interested to see how this film series will work out and I can't wait to see it.

DreamWorks Pictures has released the trailer for director Lasse Hallström's The Hundred-Foot Journey, starring Helen Mirren, Manish Dayal, Om Puri and Charlotte Le Bon. Check it out in the player below, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies.

Produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, The Hundred-Foot Journey follows Hassan Kadam (Dayal), a culinary ingénue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant – the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, the Maison Mumbai. That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Mirren), gets wind of it. Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant a hundred feet from her own escalate to all out war between the two establishments – until Hassan's passion for French haute cuisine and for Mme. Mallory's enchanting sous chef, Marguerite (Le Bon), combine with his mysteriously delicious talent to weave magic between their two cultures and imbue Saint-Antonin with the flavors of life that even Mme. Mallory cannot ignore. At first Mme. Mallory's culinary rival, she eventually recognizes Hassan's gift as a chef and takes him under her wing.

The Hundred-Foot Journey hits theaters on August 8.

I really didn't like this trailer. This film looks like something that we've all seen before. Overall I felt really bored by the trailer. but like every other film I'll give it a fair shot.

Reuters brings the unfortunate word today that Swiss surrealist artist H.R. Giger has passed away at the age of 74. Best known for designing the titular monsters in Ridley Scott's 1979 film Alien, which earned him an Oscar for Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Giger also worked on a number of other films including Poltergeist II, Species, as well as director Alejandro Jodorowsky's attempt at bringing the novel "Dune" to the big screen. Giger even worked on a design for the Batmobile for the third Batman film, Batman Forever, though his design went unused in the film.

This is really sad news to hear. This man pretty much revolutionized how we make monsters today in film. The one sad thing besides his death is the non usage of his batmobile which would've looked way better then what was given to us. This death breaks my heart and his family has my deepest condolences.
