My Review of Wonder Wheel

So I recently watched Wonder Wheel and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Four peoples' lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of the Coney Island amusement park in the 1950s: Ginny (played by Kate Winslet_, an emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress in a clam house; Humpty (played by Jim Belushi), Ginny's rough-hewn carousel operator husband; Mickey (played by Justin Timberlake), a handsome young lifeguard who dreams of becoming a playwright; and Carolina (played by Juno Temple), Humpty's long-estranged daughter, who is now hiding out from gangsters at her father's apartment.

This film is a poor attempt at trying to tell a story that has been told time and time again. Woody Allen is a phenomenal director and writer, but his last few films haven't been up to par and it feels as if he has lost his touch. The film has more of a play feel to it and maybe it would've been better served in that medium and he does hi best to bring out a Tennessee Williams vibe to it, but it just doesn't work. The performances are pretty bad to say the least and you really can't connect with any of them. Kate Winslett does a a decent job in the film of trying to get you to like the film, but it just doesn't work and the supporting cast doesn't help in this endeavor. One thing Wood y Allen has done in his past few films is that he makes the films look absolutely beautiful in the sense that in Midnight in Paris you feel like you are in Paris and in this film you really do feel like you are at Coney Island in the 50's and that right there is enough for you to at least pay attention in the film when looking at the beautiful scenery. Overall it's a film you get excited to see beacuse it's done by Woody Allen, but you end up coming out of the film asking yourself why you truly watched the film as it's not enjoyable story wise or performance wise, but the visuals are good enough for you to at least feel mesmerized. I give Wonder Wheel a 2 out of 10.
