A self-diagnosed nymphomaniac named Joe (played by Charlotte Gainesbourg) who is discovered badly beaten in an alley by an older bachelor, Seligman (played by Stellan Skarsgård), who takes her into his home. As he tends to her wounds, she recounts the erotic story of her adolescence and young-adulthood.
Going into the film after seeing the trailer, I thought the film was going to be a complete porno. In all actuality it was really great film a huge surprise. There were a lot of great performances by the cast especially by Charlotte Gainesbourg and surprisingly Shia LeBeouf. It's a very artistic, deep and dark film yet there are a lot of really funny parts. Lars von Trier's direction in the film s breathtakingly beautiful. Now it wasn't a complete porno but it some parts that were down right made for a porno and another thing that bothered me was that the movie feels so long but it's only 1 hour and 56 minutes long. Overall I was really surprised by this disturbing yet artistic masterpiece. I give Nymphomaniac: Volume 1 an 8 out of 10. I would rent it but it has to be a very special occasion for it to happen though.
