Since today marks the halfway point of the year I thought it would be fitting to give you my top 10 favorite films of 2015 so far. So without further ado...
10. Cinderella
This was a real surprise. So far Disney hasn't been that successful with their live-action films and I thought this one would be the same. Instead I was really surprised with the film. Kenneth Branagh did an amazing job with bringing this story to live-action world and also being able to put his own twists on it enough where it stays true to the core story.
9. Furious 7
This film had a lot going on with it due to the tragic death of Paul Walker and the film even had to push back the release date almost a year. The film was highly anticipated for a lot of people and it did not disappoint. It was action-packed and a lot of fun. The tribute to Paul Walker was also very classy and the perfect way to send his character off into the sunset.
8. The Avengers: Age of Ultron
Coming off of one of the greatest films of all-time, The Avengers: Age of Ultron had a lot to live up to. While it wasn't as good as the first film I still really enjoyed myself. It also set a lot pieces in motion for the future of the MCU. The new additions to the MCU were really nice and the future of the MCU looks really bright.
7. Jurassic World
I'm a huge fan of the original Jurassic Park and to be honest the previous two films haven't lived up to the hype and this film did to a point. The film has been mixed among hardcore fans about not being the same as the first film and my response is that there was no possible scenario that this film was going to be anywhere near the quality of the first film. This film was a lot of fun and it did a great job of bring the franchise back to life and the film has just completely exceeded expectations at the box office.
6. Ex Machina
This is a tremendous film. It's an original film and it is fun and inventive sci-fi film that will keep you on the edge of your seat guessing what will happen next. It has great performances from Oscar Issac and Domhnall Gleeson who I loved seeing their chemistry as a prelude to them being in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. It also has a breakout performance from Alicia Vikander who is now a star and is getting big-time roles because of these performances. If you haven't seen this film then you need to definitely check it out.
5. Paddington
When I first heard about this film I was a little surprised that it was getting made simply because it would be really hard to bring this lovable animated bear to the big screen without him looking creepy. The bear still looked a little creepy, but the film itself was a gem of a film. The performances were terrific and the story was just absolutely magnificent. There is a big potential for sequel films and I hope they are just as good as this film.
4. It Follows
I always complain that horror films are cliched, predictable and frankly unoriginal. This film however is none of those things and it was one of the scariest films I have seen in a long time. It presented a lot of different concepts that a lot of horror films in future will barrow from. After every viewing it creeps closer and closer to jumping into my top 10 favorite horror films and the hype is real.
3. Kingsman: The Secret Service
Being a big comic book fan I hand honestly never heard of the graphic novel Kingsman. The one thing that got me interested was director Matthew Vaughn (who directed Kick-Ass) and his style of directing is unique that this film had a lot of potential, plus adding a guy like Colin Ferrell who isn't know for doing action films into a film like this. Everything that could go great for this film did and it is easily my most surprising film of the year. The church scene in the film is the best scene in any film this year and it made me want to listen to Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd while in church. There is a sequel in the works and I hope it can be as good as this film was.
2. Inside Out
Everyone knows how big of a Pixar fan that I am and to be quite honest Pixar hasn't been the Pixar of old as of late. That all changes with this film because this is the most entertained I've been watching a Pixar film since Toy Story 3 and I honestly think this film has a chance to be my favorite Pixar film upon repeat viewings. It brings up a lot of different concepts and it can actually make you think of the emotions and their personality's while they are working Inside your mind.
1. Mad Max: Fury Road
I am a huge Mad Max fan and to see a Mad Max film in this modern time is a great thing to experience. The film went was in developmental hell for for almost 30 years because George Miller could never get the money to make his masterpiece and boy did the wait pay off. The film is visually beautiful and it's full of so much energy and it's pretty much a 2 hour thrill ride that never stops. The performances are terrific and Tom Hardy does a great job of replacing Mel Gibson in the title role. It's going to take a lot to dethrone this film and to be honest, there are only a handful of films that have a chance to taker the crown.
So ladies and gentlemen what are some of your favorite films of the year so far and what do you think of my list? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
